Milwaukee Bucks at Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors will host the Milwaukee Bucks in a Eastern Conference clash Monday night at the Air Canada Centre. Atlantic division leading Raptors enter 16-7 on the campaign and are one of the top ATS teams in the league at 16-6-1 against the betting line. Raptors also one of the better team in offensive efficiency metrics (114.2 ppg) carry a sparkling 8-1 SU/ATS stretch into the game on a whopping 121.4 points per 100 possesions. As for Milwaukee, the Bucks ridding a two game slide sit at 11-11 overall with a 10-12 record at the betting window and head north of the border netting 104.6 points per 100 possesions.

That huge discrepancy in scoring prowess along with the fact Toronto has dominated the series winning eleven of the past twelve games going 8-3-1 against the betting line sportsbooks have opened Raptors 8.5 point home favorites.

Consider laying the points. The Raptors can tap into home court advantage. In the past 37 regular season games in front of the home audience, Purple Dinos' have won 30 contest with just 7 losses. Add the great equalizer (point spread), Raptors are 23-13-1 against the spread. Another possitive for Toronto supporters is the fact Milwaukee is not a peg to hang your hopes on when travelling. The Bucks are jus 3-5 SU/ATS in eight road games this season, 6-18 last 24 on enemy hardwood owning an 9-15 mark against the spread.

Monday's Tip Sheet
By Kevin Rogers
VegasInsider.com

The road teams fared well on Sunday in the NBA, posting a 4-1 straight-up and 3-1 record against the spread. The 76ers pulled off the biggest upset by knocking off the Pistons as 12-point road underdogs, 97-79 to pick up their second straight away victory following a 23-game road skid. The Warriors bounced back from Saturday’s blowout loss at Memphis by beating Minnesota last night, 116-108, but failed to cash as 10-point favorites.

Game of the Night – Blazers at Clippers (-9½, 217)

Portland knocked Los Angeles out of the opening round of the playoffs last season, as both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin suffered injuries to leave the Clippers depleted. The Clippers rebounded in the first two matchups with the Clippers this season by winning each time, including a 111-80 blowout at Staples Center on November 9 to cash as 11-point favorites. However, the Blazers played with no rest that night, as they have put together an 0-5 SU/ATS record on the second of back-to-backs this season.

The Blazers (12-13 SU, 9-16 ATS) will be playing with one day of rest tonight after blowing a 20-point lead in a 118-111 setback at Indiana on Saturday. The offense dried up in the fourth quarter as Indiana outscored Portland, 28-13, even though the dynamic backcourt of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum combined for 67 points. Portland plays the final contest of a five-game road swing tonight after losing the last three games, including defeats at Milwaukee and Memphis.

The Clippers (17-7 SU, 13-11 ATS) ended a brief two-game skid by blasting the Pelicans on Saturday night, 133-105 as 14½-point favorites. Griffin rested for Los Angeles in that blowout, as the Clippers scored at least 35 points in three of four quarters. The Clippers knocked down 17 three-pointers and shot a scorching 57% from the floor, while Paul put up the rare 20-point, 20-assist performance.

Quick Turnaround

The only team playing with no rest tonight is the Lakers (10-16 SU, 11-14-1 ATS), coming off a 118-112 home setback to the Knicks on Sunday. Los Angeles has dropped six consecutive games as the Lakers make the short trip north to Sacramento. The Lakers own a 2-3 SU/ATS mark with no rest, while allowing at least 116 points three times on the second of a back-to-back.

The Kings (8-15 SU, 12-10-1 ATS) have dropped two in a row, while looking to avenge a 101-91 home setback to the Lakers last month. In that loss, Sacramento jumped out to a 14-point lead after one quarter, but the Lakers outscored the Kings in the final quarter, 31-18 to grab the win and cover as 5½-point underdogs.

Finding its Pace

Indiana (12-12 SU, 10-14 ATS) suffered through plenty of injuries through the first month of the season, but is finally returning to health. The Pacers erased a 20-point deficit in Saturday’s home victory over the Blazers, as Indiana looks to improve on a 2-9 record this season off a win. Indiana welcomes in Charlotte (14-10 SU, 12-11-1 ATS) tonight as the Hornets are coming off a 116-105 setback at Cleveland on Saturday to fall to 6-4 on the road.

In the last meeting between these teams in Charlotte in November, the Hornets couldn’t miss early by posting 43 first quarter points in a 122-100 victory over the Pacers as three-point favorites. Charlotte has owned Indiana recently by capturing each of the past four matchups, including a pair of underdog victories at Bankers Life Fieldhouse last season.

Runaway Raptors

Toronto (16-7 SU, 16-6-1 ATS) is finding its groove right now by winning eight of its last nine games to extend its advantage in the Atlantic division over New York to 2½ games. The Raptors knocked off the Celtics on Friday, 101-94 as Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan combined for 58 points. Toronto hosts Milwaukee (11-11 SU, 10-12 ATS) tonight at Air Canada Center looking to improve on a 9-4 record as three of its home losses have come to Cleveland and Golden State.

Taking Flight

Another team that is heating up is Houston (17-7 SU, 17-17 ATS), who is riding a six-game winning streak, as the Rockets host the struggling Nets (6-16 SU, 11-10-1 ATS) tonight. The Rockets held off the Thunder on Friday, 102-99, followed up by a 109-87 blowout of cross-state rival Dallas on Saturday.

Houston owns a perfect 3-0 SU/ATS record as a double-digit favorite, as the Rockets are 14½-point favorites against a Nets’ squad that is coming off a 29-point loss at San Antonio on Saturday. One warning for Rockets’ backers, as Brooklyn pulled off the two-game sweep of Houston last season, including a 106-98 triumph as 11½-point ‘dogs at Toyota Center.

Other Action

The Heat (7-17 SU, 11-13 ATS) return home from an 0-3 road swing as the Wizards (9-13 SU, 9-13 ATS) travel to South Florida. Miami managed a pair of covers as heavy underdogs at Atlanta and Chicago, as the Heat look to improve on a 2-8 record at American Airlines Arena. The Wizards are coming off comeback home victories over the Nuggets and Bucks, but Washington lost to Miami at the Verizon Center last month, 114-111 as 4½-point favorites.

Denver (9-15 SU, 13-11 ATS) and Dallas (5-18 SU, 9-14 ATS) are hooking up for the first time this season as the two teams meet at American Airlines Center. The Mavs grabbed three of four matchups last season, including both games in Dallas. The Nuggets finish off a six-game road swing after rallying past the Magic on Saturday, while the Mavs are fresh off their 18th loss of the season at Houston.

Struggling Heat face Wizards Monday night
By: Zach Cohen
StatFox.com

The Wizards will be going for their third straight win when they face the Heat on Monday night.

Washington had a disastrous start to the season, but the team has found its groove recently. The Wizards have won two straight games coming into this one, and they have also won seven of their past 12 as well. Things are clicking for this team offensively, as the Wizards have shot 45% or better from the floor in four of their past five. They’ll need to keep scoring efficiently moving forward. For Miami, things have not been going as well in recent weeks. The Heat have lost five straight coming into this game, and they just do not look like the same team with Dwyane Wade now in Chicago. Fortunately, the Heat are facing a team they’ll be confident against on Monday. Miami has won-and-covered in two straight games against Washington, and one of those victories was a 114-111 win as a 4.5-point road dog on Nov. 19. That win could fuel the Wizards, though. They are 20-8 ATS when revenging a same season loss versus an opponent over the past two seasons. Washington is, however, a lousy 3-16 ATS after two straight games committing 7+ less turnovers than its opponents since 1996. SF Justise Winslow (Wrist) is doubtful for Miami in this game, and SF James Johnson (Shoulder) is questionable.

Washington has really played some solid basketball as of late, and PG John Wall (23.6 PPG, 9.6 APG, 4.3 RPG, 2.2 SPG) is a huge reason for the team’s recent improvement. Over the past five games, Wall is averaging 26.6 PPG and 10.4 APG on 49.0% shooting from the floor and 36.4% shooting from three. If he can continue to shoot it that well then the Wizards will be back at .500 very shortly. Monday presents a good opportunity for him to go off, as he is both quicker and stronger than Goran Dragic. It showed in their last meeting, as Wall had 34 points and eight assists in that one. SG Bradley Beal (21.5 PPG) also went off in that game, as he poured in 34 points as well. Beal has been red-hot from three recently, shooting 53.3% from the outside over the past five contests. Look for him to be extremely aggressive on Monday. The x-factor in this game will, however, be C Marcin Gortat (11.0 PPG, 11.9 RPG, 1.2 BPG). Gortat is going to need to hold his own against Hassan Whiteside or the Wizards are going to have no chance of winning this one. That means that Gortat will also have to be aware of his foul situation. Washington needs him in the court as much as possible.

The Heat are looking to end their five-game losing streak and they’ll need a big performance from C Hassan Whiteside (17.3 PPG, 14.3 RPG, 2.4 BPG) in order to do that. Whiteside is coming off of a 20-point performance, but he had just 16 points total in his previous two games before that. The Heat will likely need at least 20 from him on Monday. PG Goran Dragic (18.0 PPG, 6.6 APG, 3.8 RPG, 1.0 SPG) will also need to have a huge game on Monday. Dragic needs to find a way to win his personal matchup with John Wall, and he just might be able to do that. Dragic is shooting the three-ball about as well as he has in his entire career recently. Over the past five games, he’s knocking down 46.7% of his threes. That is really opening up lanes to the rim, and he’ll need to attack frequently in this one. It’d also be big for Miami if SG Josh Richardson (10.9 PPG) can find his stroke in this one. He was 0-for-6 from the outside for the Heat last game, and they need him to turn it around soon.
