Golden State at San Antonio

With the top two teams in the NBA locking horns Sunday the eyes of most basketball fans, as well as those focused on basketball betting will be on the showdown between host San Antonio Spurs (65-14, 43-36 ATS) and visiting Golden State Warriors (70-9, 43-34-2 ATS). Home-court advantage is certainly something San Antonio can tap into. Spurs looking to become the first undefeated home team in league history have been tough nuts to crack on AT&T Center hardwood. This year, they've won 39 consecutive games (23-16 ATS) in front of the friendly crowd defeating opponents by 14.7 points/game and 48 straight regular season games (31-17 ATS) dating back to last season. Additionally, Spurs have also shown a habit of handling Warriors in Alamo City during regular season winning 18 of the past 19 matchups with a profitable 13-6 mark against the betting line.

Game of the Day: Warriors at Spurs
By Covers.com

Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs (-5.5, 205)

The Golden State Warriors rallied late Saturday to give themselves an opportunity at history and set up a monumental matchup at the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. The Warriors finished on an 8-2 run to steal a 100-99 win at Memphis, improving to 71-9 and keeping alive their chance to record an NBA-record 73 victories with two games to play.

To get one win closer, they would have to be the first team all season to win in San Antonio, where the Spurs are closing in on the first perfect home record in league history. Golden State knows all about it, as the franchise has dropped an alarming 33 straight games at San Antonio. The two Western Conference powers are meeting for the second time in four days, with the Warriors holding serve at home in a 112-101 triumph on Thursday. San Antonio followed that loss up with another at Denver the following night, but coach Gregg Popovich chose to rest nearly all of his regulars in that one as his team suffered its first set of consecutive losses.

LINE HISTORY: The spread for this showdown opened with the Spurs as 5.5-point favorites. On Saturday evening there was a slight wobble in the line and some books even dropped the point spread as low as -4.5, but that didn't last too long and the spread quickly returned -5.5 where it sits currently. The total opened at 206 and was bet down to 204.5 by Sunday morning.

INJURY REPORT:

Warriors - SF K. Looney (out indefinitely, hip).

Spurs - PF L. Aldridge (Probable Sunday, finger), C B. Diaw (Out Sunday, groin).

POWER RANKINGS: Warriors (-14.6) - Spurs (-15.8 + home court (-3) = Spurs -4.2

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (71-9, 43-35-2 ATS, 44-35-1 O/U): The win in Memphis allowed Golden State to match the NBA record for road victories (33), held by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, the same team the Warriors are hoping to catch at 72. They were able to survive an off night for leader Stephen Curry, who was 3-of-14 from 3-point range while finishing with fewer than 20 points for the first time since March 21. Curry was just 4-of-18 from the floor and 1-of-12 from beyond the arc in the previous visit to San Antonio on March 19, when the Spurs recorded an 87-79 win.

ABOUT THE SPURS (65-14, 43-36 ATS, 35-42-2 O/U): Popovich has said he will not rest anyone for this one, even though he called the pursuit of a perfect home record "meaningless," but he will be without reserve forward Boris Diaw (thigh) for the fourth straight game. Diaw had 14 points and eight rebounds in a season-high 35 minutes against Golden State earlier this season. Popovich will have a close eye on LaMarcus Aldridge, who briefly left the loss to the Warriors on Thursday with a finger injury before resting against the Nuggets.

TRENDS:

* Warriors are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win.
* Spurs are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.
* Under is 6-1 in Warriors last 7 vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Under is 5-1 in Spurs last 6 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
* Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in San Antonio.
* Home team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

CONSENSUS: The public is all over the Warriors at a rate of 65 percent and, somewhat surprisingly, the over is getting the majority of the total action at 57 percent.

Warriors, Spurs hook up
By Sportsbook.ag

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (71-9) at SAN ANTONIO SPURS (65-14)

Sportsbook.ag Line: San Antonio -5.5, Total: 205

The Warriors will be looking to tie the record for wins in a season when they face the Spurs in San Antonio on Sunday.

Golden State is coming off of a very tough game in Memphis, but the team was able to come away with a 100-99 victory as a 13-point favorite. The Warriors now need just two more victories in order to break the record for wins in a season, but it’s not going to be easy.

The last time these teams met in San Antonio, the Spurs won 87-79 as five-point home favorites. The Warriors did, however, win 112-101 when these teams met at Oracle Arena on Apr. 7. San Antonio has gotten the best of this head-to-head series over the years, though.

The Spurs are 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS when facing the Warriors over the past three seasons and that includes a 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS record when playing at home in that span. Golden State is 10-1 ATS in road games after a close win by three points or less over the past three seasons. San Antonio, meanwhile, is 12-2 ATS revenging a loss by 10 points or more versus an opponent over the past two seasons. Both teams are expected to play their starters in this one, but PF Boris Diaw (Groin) is doubtful for the Spurs.

If the Warriors are going to get their 72nd win then PG Stephen Curry (29.8 PPG, 6.7 APG, 5.5 RPG, 2.1 SPG) is going to need to get it going against the Spurs. Curry was miserable on Saturday night, finishing with just 17 points on 7-for-22 shooting from the field and 3-for-14 shooting from the outside. He did, however, have 27 points and nine assists when he faced the Spurs on Thursday. He was 11-for-19 from the field in that one and needs to play an efficient game like that one on Sunday.

One guy that will need to be more involved against the Spurs is SG Klay Thompson (22.3 PPG). Thompson had just 14 points on 5-for-13 shooting the last time these teams met. There is a lot less pressure on Curry and the rest of the Warriors when Thompson gets it going. Golden State would be wise to get him some looks early on in this one.

PF Draymond Green (14.0 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 7.4 APG, 1.5 SPG, 1.4 BPG) came up big in the win over Memphis on Saturday. Green had 23 points and 11 rebounds in that one. He also had three blocks and a steal. He’ll need to bring it on both ends of the floor on Sunday.

The Spurs will be looking to play the role of spoiler when they host the Warriors on Sunday. If San Antonio is going to win then the team will need huge performances from both SF Kawhi Leonard (21.5 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.8 SPG) and PF LaMarcus Aldridge (18.0 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 1.1 BPG).

Leonard was really impressive the last time these teams met, finishing the game with 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the floor. The Spurs need him to be more aggressive in this one, as he is really tough to stop once he gets it going and is one of the best shot creators on this team. Aldridge, meanwhile, was miserable the last time these teams met. He had just 11 points on 5-for-16 shooting in that game and that is not going to cut it for San Antonio.
