NBA Pick 'N' Roll: Sunday's Betting Analysis
Covers.com

The first Sunday of the new NBA season produces just three games on the betting board including the Pelicans traveling to Laker land in search of their first win of the season.

Atlanta Hawks at Brooklyn Nets (-2.5, 222)

The Atlanta Hawks open the NBA season with five straight games on the road to start the season. Expect a lot of ups and downs from the Hawks as three of their top four scorers from last season are no longer on the roster.

Dennis Schroder has been given the keys to the franchise and so far he has done an admirable job averaging 26.5 points, six assists and leading the Hawks in minutes through two games.

In Brooklyn the strategy is clear, get buckets. The Nets are averaging a ludicrous league-leading 128.5 points per game. The Clippers rank second averaging 119 points.

The flip side of that is the Nets are allowing 130.5 points so far this season. In games against the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic, not necessarily offensive juggernauts.

Both of these teams rank in the bottom part of the league in defensive efficiency, Atlanta 19th, and Brooklyn 29th, expect a lot of buckets this afternoon at the Barclay Center.

Pick: Over 222

New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Lakers (+3.5, 222.5)

The shade was coming from everywhere after a disappointing NBA debut for Lonzo Ball. The first round pick was humbled by first-team defender Patrick Beverley but rebounded quite nicely against the Suns going for 29 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists.

A new challenge awaits Lonzo tonight in the form of Pelican big men Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, the pair is averaging nearly 33 points per game and just under 15 boards a game between them.

The Lakers were manhandled on the glass in their opening game against the Clippers and were outscored 31-10 in second-chance points. The Davis and Cousins duo have turned the Pelicans into the best offensive rebounding team in the league, averaging 16 per game. Just ahead of the second-ranked Clippers.

Look for the Pelicans to bully the Lakers in the paint and their length to bother Lonzo and pick up their first win of the young season.

Pick: Pelicans -3.5

Yesterday’s picks: 1-1

Season record: 4-6

Total Streaks

* The over has cashed in both of Brooklyn’s games to start the season averaging 259 points combined. The total for today’s game against the Hawks is 221.5.

* The under has hit in both of Oklahoma City’s games this season and today’s matchup with the Timberwolves has the lowest total on the board at 209.

Injury To Note

Atlanta Hawks second-year forward DeAndre’ Bembry will be out of action indefinitely after fracturing his wrist. Kent Bazemore, Taurean Prince and Marco Belinelli are expected to eat up those minutes.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is expected to make his Lakers debut after serving a two-game suspension to start the season.

Top Trends

* Under is 8-0 in the last 8 meetings between the Nets and Hawks

* Timberwolves are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games playing on 1 days rest.

Consensus

Bettors like the Thunder to cover the spread tonight against the visiting Timberwolves. Around 74 percent of users are backing OKC -4 at home tonight.
