Wednesday's Best NBA Bets
By Covers.com

Charlotte Bobcats at Minnesota Timberwolves (N/A)

Four-game losing streaks used to be no big deal for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now, they have different expectations.

So when they were outmatched in a 102-89 loss at Orlando, it didn’t sit well with the team.

"Now we lost four games in a row,” Nikola Pekovic told reporters. “We are better team. Everybody can see that. We have way better result than last year already, but sometimes you get this upside down. We're playing good, then we play bad. We have to learn to be consistent, you know? At the same level every game. We are young team. We just need some time."

A date with the Bobcats couldn’t hurt either. Charlotte is riding a 15-game losing streak and even though the club has managed to cover in three of its last five overall, the Timberwolves will be too much to handle.

Pick: Timberwolves

New Orleans Hornets at Milwaukee Bucks (-9.5, 184.5)

Hornets haven’t had much to celebrate this season.

New Orleans had dropped eight straight games, both straight up and against the spread before getting the better of Utah in an 86-80 victory.

"I'm so happy we got a win. I don't know what day it is,'' Trevor Ariza told reporters. "We needed that one bad. Hopefully, this will carry over — and we can get another.''

If that’s going to happen, the Hornets are going to have to keep overcoming significant injuries. Emeka Okafor sat out Monday’s win with a sore left knee and is questionable for Wednesday. His absence gave Chris Kaman the start and he responded with 27 point and 13 rebounds.

Eric Gordon will be out of action for another six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery and Jason Smith is also doubtful for Wednesday with a concussion.

Milwaukee should be able to take advantage of the shorthanded Hornets.

Pick: Bucks

Wednesday's Tips
By Kevin Rogers
VegasInsider.com

The Wednesday NBA card is one of the busiest of the season with 13 games on the schedule. There are several key contests including the Nuggets and Mavericks hooking up in Dallas, while the Thunder hits the highway again as they battle the Rockets in Houston. We'll start in central Florida as the 76ers face another road test against the Magic.

76ers at Magic

Past the Bulls and Heat atop the Eastern Conference, there are many questions on which squad will be the third seed when the postseason comes around. Two of those potential clubs meet up at Amway Arena in Orlando for the second time in two weeks. The Magic go for their third straight win after beating the Bucks and Timberwolves, while the Sixers wrap up their road swing following victories at Cleveland and Charlotte.

The last time these two teams saw each in Philadelphia, the Sixers limited the Magic to 33% shooting from the floor in a 74-69 victory on January 30. Orlando picked up the backdoor cover thanks to a late J.J. Redick three-pointer to cash as 7½-point underdogs, the final defeat in a four-game losing skid. Since that loss, Stan Van Gundy's club owns a 6-2 SU/ATS record to climb into tie for second place in the Southeast division with Atlanta.

Philadelphia has done plenty of its damage against bottom-tier teams in the league, as the Sixers look to take that step to the next level in the Eastern Conference. Doug Collins' squad has compiled a 7-4 ATS record away from the Wells Fargo Center, while winning just one game in the road underdog role at Atlanta on Feburary 4. The Sixers' defense is carrying them now by limiting 12 of their past 13 opponents to below 100 points (8-5 to the 'under').

Thunder at Rockets

Oklahoma City is back on the road again after last night's stop at home against Utah. The Thunder takes on the Rockets for the third time this season after winning the first two meetings in early January. Houston is back at the Toyota Center for the first time since a February 3 blowout of Phoenix as seven-point favorites.

Kevin McHale's team finished a six-game swing at Memphis on Tuesday, as the Rockets picked up three solid wins in the underdog role at Denver, Portland, and Phoenix. In the two previous losses to Oklahoma City, Houston managed only one cover at home in a 98-95 setback as a 5½-point 'dog on January 7. Houston has defended its home-court well with a 10-3 SU and 9-4 ATS record, including victories over San Antonio twice, Atlanta, and Portland.

The Thunder owns an 8-3 SU/ATS ledger as a road favorite since the non-cover at the Toyota Center in January. Scott Brooks' team is 8-2 to the 'over' the last 10 games, but are 5-3 to the 'under' in contests with the total listed at 200 or above. After starting the season at 0-3 ATS with no rest, the Thunder is holding their own on the second of back-to-backs with a 4-1 ATS mark.

Nuggets at Mavericks

Denver makes the trip to the Lone Star State after Tuesday's home contest against Phoenix, as the banged-up Nuggets take on the Mavs. Dallas is back on track following a three-game skid by putting together a four-game winning streak, capped off by crucial home victories over the Blazers and Clippers. Now, the Mavs attempt to break through as the first home team to win a game in three meetings this season.

In the first matchup back in late December, the Nuggets shocked the Mavs in a 115-93 rout as 4½-point 'dogs. Dallas avenged that defeat by taking care of Denver at the Pepsi Center, 105-95 as short road 'dogs last Wednesday. However, it will be a tall order for the Nuggets to win without two of their big guys as Nene (calf) and Timofey Mozgov (ankle) are both sidelined. The Nuggets have compiled a 2-7 ATS record the previous nine games, but both covers came on the highway against the Clippers and Pacers.

The Mavericks have struggled recently at the American Airlines Center with a 1-4 ATS mark, while all three straight-up victories came by four points or less. Dallas' defense has held eight consecutive opponents to 100 points or less, but the 'over' is 4-4 in this stretch. Rick Carlisle's club is 0-3 ATS the last three games against unrested foes, but 3-1 ATS at home against teams on the second of a back-to-back.
