Wednesday's Tip Sheet
By Kevin Rogers
VegasInsider.com

Underdogs came through on Tuesday night by covering in five of six games, including outright victories by the Hawks, Nets, and Mavericks. Atlanta handed Cleveland its first loss of the season in a 110-106 win as 7½-point ‘dogs, while Brooklyn improved to 5-1 ATS by knocking off Minnesota, 119-110. The Suns rallied back but fell short at Portland in a 124-121 setback as 8½-point underdogs. The Kings were the lone favorite to cash last night by beating the winless Pelicans, 102-94 to barely cash as 6½-point chalk.

Game of the Night – Blazers at Clippers (-9½, 208)

Portland eliminated a beat-up Los Angeles squad in the opening round of the playoffs last season as Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were injured. The Clippers picked up some revenge in their first matchup this season in a 114-106 triumph at the Moda Center as 2½-point favorites on October 27. Paul and Griffin each scored 27 points to lead Los Angeles, while limiting the Blazers to 4-of-18 shooting from three-point range.

The Blazers travel to Staples Center with no rest tonight after holding off the Suns on Tuesday, 124-121. Portland built a 42-25 advantage after the first quarter, but Phoenix didn’t give up as the Suns put up 39 points in the fourth quarter before coming up short. Damian Lillard paced Portland with 38 points as the Blazers shot 56% from the floor. Portland has won a season-high three straight games, while owning a 3-1 SU/ATS record on the highway.

The Clippers are rolling at 6-1 on the season, while covering in all six of their victories. Los Angeles demolished Detroit on Monday, 114-82, while jumping out to a 30-point halftime edge. Since allowing 106 points to Portland in the opener, the Clippers have limited each of their last six opponents to less than 100 points, resulting in four UNDERS.

Back-to-Back Spots

Wolves (+3, 201½) at Magic

Minnesota stumbled to its fifth loss in six tries this season, coming off a 119-110 setback at Brooklyn as four-point favorites. The Wolves are playing with no rest for the first time this season, as Minnesota posted a 1-8 SU and 4-5 ATS record on the road last season in the second leg of a back-to-back set. Orlando saw its three-game winning streak disappear in Monday’s 112-80 rout in Chicago, but the Magic have beaten the Wolves in five consecutive meetings.

Nets (+8½, 212½) at Knicks

Brooklyn embarks on a five-game road trip, but the first contest is cross-town at Madison Square Garden against the Knicks. The Nets have been the biggest surprise in the league from an ATS standpoint by posting a 5-1 ATS mark. Brooklyn is 2-0 ATS away from the Barclays Center by cashing as heavy underdogs in close losses to Boston and Milwaukee. The Knicks and Nets split four meetings last season with the home team winning each time, while both Brooklyn losses at MSG came by double-digits.

Suns (+4, 204½) vs. Pistons

Phoenix has won only two of its first eight games, but the Suns have played several exciting contests recently. The Suns escaped past the Blazers and Pelicans in overtime, while losing high-scoring games to the Lakers and Blazers to wrap up their road trip. The OVER has cashed in five straight games for Phoenix, as the Suns have allowed at least 106 points in each contest this season. Detroit heads to the Valley of the Sun tonight after getting routed by the Clippers on Monday as the Pistons own an 0-3 SU/ATS record on the road this season.

Mavericks at Warriors

Following an 0-5 start, Dallas has suddenly won two straight, coming off a pair of victories over the Bucks and Lakers. Both wins came without Dirk Nowitzki, who is nursing an Achilles’ injury, while point guard Deron Williams is sidelined with a calf injury. The Mavs rallied past the Lakers on Tuesday, 109-97, limiting their fourth opponent in the last five games to below 100 points. The task won’t be easy tonight against Golden State, who has won five of its first seven games. The Warriors have cashed only twice so far since bringing in Kevin Durant, as Golden State owns a 1-4 ATS mark as a double-digit favorite.

Head-to-Head Trends

The Celtics swept the four-game series from the Wizards last season as Boston covered in all four victories.

The home team has won five straight meetings between the Jazz and Hornets as the two teams hook up in Charlotte. The UNDER is 8-2 in the past 10 matchups with one of the OVERS hitting in Charlotte’s 124-119 double-overtime home triumph last season.

The Pacers are riding a five-game winning streak against the 76ers since February 2015, while pulling off the three-game sweep last season. Philadelphia has failed to bust the 100-point mark in its last five visits to Indiana.

Atlanta owned Chicago last season by capturing all four matchups, including two blowouts at Philips Arena. The final three meetings finished UNDER the total as tonight’s total is set at 204½.

The Raptors have covered in five of the last six meetings with the Thunder, while the road team won each matchup last season. Toronto has cashed in its past three visits to OKC, including as eight-point ‘dogs in a 103-98 triumph last November.

In each of the last two seasons, the Rockets have knocked off the Spurs in the first matchup, but San Antonio won the final three meetings. Houston hopes to continue the first trend tonight in San Antonio as the Rockets have lost their last four visits to the AT&T Center while failing to cover as an underdog each time.
