LA Clippers vs Orlando Magic Preview and Predictions

The Los Angeles Clippers seek to record their 10th consecutive victory in the all-time series when they visit the Orlando Magic on Friday in the finale of their three-game road trip. Orlando hasn't prevailed against the Clippers since recording a 98-90 triumph on Nov. 6, 2013.

The Magic have dropped three straight games, including a 107-99 home decision to Sacramento on Tuesday. Orlando is last in the NBA in scoring at 100.6 points per game and has failed to reach the century mark on four occasions. Los Angeles allowed an average of 125 points while dropping the first two games of its trek, including a 122-113 loss to Philadelphia on Thursday in which it had no answers on how to defend Joel Embiid (41 points, 13 rebounds). The offense also disappeared down the stretch, going more than six minutes without a field goal to hinder the efforts of nabbing a road victory.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket (Los Angeles), FS Florida (Orlando)

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (4-4): Shooting guard Lou Williams showed off the form that won him last season's Sixth Man of the Year Award by scoring a season-best 26 points in the loss to the 76ers. "When Lou gets it going, he's hard to stop," coach Doc Rivers told reporters after the loss. "He has the ability offensively to carry you, but at some point, somebody has to step up with him." Forwards Danilo Gallinari (25 points) and Tobias Harris (24) also fared well, but starting guards Patrick Beverley (four points on 1-of-7 shooting) and Avery Bradley (two on 1-of-6 shooting) had poor outings.

ABOUT THE MAGIC (2-5): Shooting guard Evan Fournier has been a major disappointment early this season, connecting on just 37.4 percent of his shots while making more than 40 percent of his attempts just once. Fournier is averaging 15.1 points, but the mark would be lower if not for a stellar 31-point performance against the 76ers on Oct. 20. "I'm playing terrible for this team. I'm a big-minutes guy, and I can't play like that, period," Fournier told reporters. "We need everybody on this team, and I'm just not playing well enough for this team, and I think it's a big reason why we keep losing these games. I know if I play the way I can, we'd be winning right now."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Clippers have won by an average of 13.4 points during their nine-game streak against the Magic.

2. Los Angeles PF Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) likely will miss his fifth straight game.

3. Orlando backup SF Jonathon Simmons is 10-of-39 shooting over his last four contests.

PREDICTION: Clippers 105, Magic 101

Houston Rockets vs Brooklyn Nets Preview and Predictions

The Houston Rockets lost their swagger, according to coach Mike D'Antoni, and are trying to recapture the magic that led them to the best record in the NBA last season. The Rockets will try to snap a four-game slide when they open a five-game road trip with a visit to the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.

Houston is nearly a third of the way to last season's loss total and dropped its last three games by double figures, capped by Tuesday's 104-85 home loss to the Portland Trail Blazers that marked a season low in points scored. "Right now, we're playing like crap," D'Antoni told reporters. "We're just not playing well. You know, I don't have a whole lot of answers for you now. We'll look, and we'll fight it." The Nets broke out of a three-game losing streak by outlasting the Detroit Pistons 120-119 in overtime on Wednesday and are feeling good about themselves. "That was the thing that made this win really big for us -- the losing streak," Brooklyn guard Spencer Dinwiddie told reporters. "We're trying to be a good team and change the tide of Nets teams of the past. You've got to learn how to get out of a rut quickly."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston), YES (Brooklyn)

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (1-5): Houston's disjointed start can to attributed to a roster working in new pieces like former All-Star Carmelo Anthony and a two-game suspension that sidelined Chris Paul and a hamstring injury that currently has star guard James Harden locked to the bench. Anthony managed eight points on 2-of-12 shooting on Tuesday to mark his fourth single-digit scoring effort in six games but is not ready to hit the panic button. "When it goes bad, it goes bad," Anthony told reporters. "Right now, I think we've just got to keep biting at it, keep fighting, keep playing. I'm big on staying the course and figuring it out. Whatever we have to figure out, I'm sure we will do it."

ABOUT THE NETS (3-5): Dinwiddie comes off the bench, but he was on the floor in the key moments on Wednesday and ended up capping a 25-point night with a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final seconds of overtime. "I've got a corner 3," Dinwiddie told reporters. "I hit him with the right step-back. He's going to have a late contest. All I've got to do is shoot. It's just me and the rim. If I get my follow-through right, my arc right, he ain't going to do nothing about it." Dinwiddie went 8-of-15 from the floor in 32 minutes while starting point guard D'Angelo Russell struggled to six points on 3-of-15 shooting in 25 minutes.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Harden sat out the last two games and is doubtful for Friday.

2. Nets SF Joe Harris is shooting 54.8 percent from 3-point range after going 4-of-7 on Wednesday.

3. Harden averaged 36.5 points in a pair of double-digit wins over Brooklyn last season.

PREDICTION: Rockets 113, Nets 106

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Washington Wizards Preview and Predictions

Dwight Howard will make his team debut when the Washington Wizards host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. The 32-year-old center missed all of training camp and the first seven games of the season with a strained muscle in his buttocks.

Howard, an eight-time All-Star, was signed as a free agent in the offseason but has been curtailed by the injury that is located near his tailbone. "It just doesn't go away. It's a lot better than it was," Howard told reporters on Thursday. "I haven't even been able to sit down. It hurts to sit down. Every time I get home, I can't watch a movie sitting down. I've gotta lay down on the floor. It's very painful." The Wizards have lost four consecutive games as they try to slow down the Thunder, who have won three contests in a row following an 0-4 start. Oklahoma City recovered from a 19-point, third-quarter deficit on Thursday to record a 111-107 victory in Charlotte.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, FS Oklahoma, NBCS Washington

ABOUT THE THUNDER (3-4): Backup shooting guard Alex Abrines poured in a career-best 25 points - 15 in the third quarter - and made five 3-pointers (one shy of his career high) to help set the tone for Oklahoma City's comeback. "He really opened up the game for us offensively," coach Billy Donovan told reporters. "I think once he made a few shots, it got a little bit contagious within our team." Star point guard Russell Westbrook, who recorded 29 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, has topped 20 points in four of five games since returning from knee surgery.

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (1-6): Washington is off to a dreadful start, and the issues were magnified when it committed 20 turnovers during a 107-95 loss to Memphis on Tuesday that completed a five-game road trip. Star point guard John Wall had nine of the miscues and the offense struggled as the Wizards failed to reach 100 points for the first time this season. "It's kind of a broken record, but it is what it is," coach Scott Brooks told reporters of the setback. "Right now, we just got to fight through it, sticking together and playing for one another."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Wizards have won two of the last three meetings after the Thunder prevailed in the previous five matchups.

2. Oklahoma City SF Paul George missed all 10 of his 3-point attempts while scoring 11 points on 4-of-20 shooting against Charlotte.

3. Washington PF Markieff Morris (concussion) will return after a one-game absence.

PREDICTION: Wizards 116, Thunder 111

Indiana Pacers vs Chicago Bulls Preview and Predictions

The Indiana Pacers are finding different ways to score and bounced back from a loss by leaning on the bench. The Pacers will try to coax another stellar performance from Domantas Sabonis and company and sweep the two-game road trip when they visit the New York Knicks on Friday.

Indiana shot 54.2 percent from the floor in Wednesday's 107-101 win at the New York Knicks, led by Sabonis' 30 points on 12-of-12 shooting in 21 minutes. "I thought (Sabonis) was really good the time he was out there tonight," Pacers coach Nate McMillan told reporters. "He got into foul trouble, and only played seven minutes in first half. In second half, he continued to be aggressive and make plays for us." Sabonis could have his hands full at the other end of the floor on Friday with Bulls rookie power forward Wendell Carter Jr., who scored a season-high 25 points and doubled his career 3-pointer total with two in a 108-107 overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. "We're eight games in now," Chicago guard Zach LaVine told reporters of Carter. "I want to see what he looks like at 80. It's going to be nice."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Indiana, NBCS Chicago

ABOUT THE PACERS (5-3): Indiana star Victor Oladipo knocked down a pair of 3-pointers late to spark the team to victory on Wednesday and is making opposing coaches shake their heads. "That's what All-Stars do," Knicks coach David Fizdale told reporters of Oladipo. "We couldn't get to him for whatever reason. On our traps we couldn't get him trapped. Once a guy like that hits a couple he is going to get it going." Oladipo ended up 10-of-18 from the floor while playing through an illness, bouncing back from a 9-of-24 performance in a home loss to Portland on Monday.
ABOUT THE BULLS (2-6): Chicago looked like a different team in Wednesday's loss than the club that allowed 92 first-half points in a 149-124 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday, but the result was still the same. "We have to learn how to win," LaVine told reporters. "It was a bounce-back (game) in terms of our fight. It still sucks. You play such a good game. You want that result." LaVine scored 28 points in Wednesday's setback and scored 20 or more in each of the first eight games for an average of 28.1.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Bulls PF Jabari Parker made his first start of the season on Wednesday and was held to a season-low six points on 3-of-10 shooting in 36 minutes.

2. Pacers PF Thaddeus Young recorded season highs of 10 rebounds, five steals and three blocks on Wednesday.

3. Indiana took three of the four meetings last season and four of the last five in the series.

PREDICTION: Pacers 116, Bulls 109

New York Knicks vs Dallas Mavericks Preview and Predictions

Tim Hardaway Jr. is stringing together exceptional games but it isn't equating to victories for the New York Knicks. The club has dropped six of its last seven games as it enters Friday's road game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Hardaway scored a season-best 37 points and drained a career-best seven 3-pointers on Wednesday but the Knicks fell 107-101 to the Indiana Pacers. The output was two shy of the 26-year-old guard's career best and he is the first New York player since Patrick Ewing to score at least 24 points in seven of the team's first eight games (Ewing did it in all eight). Dallas has dropped five consecutive games and trailed by 17 points after the opening quarter en route to suffering a 114-113 road loss against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. "A lot of it comes back to how you start the game," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle told reporters afterward. "Better starts will put us in better position to win. It's as simple as that."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), FS Southwest (Dallas)

ABOUT THE KNICKS (2-6): Hardaway is averaging 26 points and topped 30 twice this season as he has developed into a true go-to scorer under first-year coach David Fizdale. "He's competing his butt off," Fizdale told reporters. "He's trying to win every game. He's doing a great job of leading this group. Really been happy with the way he's competing defensively. I think he's playing at an All-Star level despite our record. Hopefully can he sustain this throughout the year." Rookie guard Allonzo Trier put together back-to-back solid games, and is averaging 13 points while making 11-of-14 shots during the stretch.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (2-6): Veteran forward Dirk Nowitzki is still recovering from April's surgery on his left ankle and he told reporters that he is still weeks away from returning. "I haven't even started running on the court, I haven't even started running quick on the treadmill," Nowitzki said. "I've just been slowly jogging and seeing how the foot reacts. Unfortunately we're still talking weeks over days." When he does return, Nowitzki will be a reserve as that was something he agreed to prior to the season after being approached by Carlisle.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Mavericks won 26 of the past 33 meetings.

2. Dallas PG Dennis Smith Jr. had just five points on 2-of-9 shooting against the Lakers after averaging 24.5 points over the previous two games.

3. New York rookie F Kevin Knox (ankle) will miss his sixth straight game.

PREDICTION: Mavericks 110, Knicks 105

Memphis Grizzlies vs Utah Jazz Preview and Predictions

The Memphis Grizzlies are defending at a high level and operating efficiently on offense, leading to wins in four of the last five games. The Utah Jazz, who host the Grizzlies on Friday, are trying to ride the same path up the standings and are returning home after stumbling at the end of a four-game road trip.

The Grizzlies already own a 92-84 victory at Utah this season from Oct. 22, which marked their lone road win in three chances, and they are hoping another triumph can build the momentum necessary to thrive on a three-game trip that also visits Phoenix and Golden State. "We've got to pick it up on the road," Memphis guard Garrett Temple told reporters. "We're going to have a chance to try to figure it out in our game against Utah. We found a way to win there last time. They're not going to lay down this time, they're going to want revenge." The Jazz were torched by 50 points from former MVP Derrick Rose in a 128-125 loss at Minnesota on Wednesday, denying them a perfect road trip. "He had it going, he was confident," Utah forward Jae Crowder told reporters of Rose. "He was hitting pull-up jumpers, he was confident getting into the paint. We just gotta find a way - good teams always find a way to win games like this. We're building, we're trying, and we got a lot more games to go."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Memphis), AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah)

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (4-2): Memphis pulled out a 107-95 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday by using a small lineup with four guards surrounding center Marc Gasol. The plethora of ball handlers helped the Grizzlies record 28 assists on 36 made field goals in Tuesday's triumph. "The more skill you put on the floor, the more things that you can do," Memphis coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters. "The more guys that can dribble, pass and shoot it, you can create for one another. The space is great, they you throw in a stretch five who really opens up the lane."

ABOUT THE JAZZ (4-3): Utah prefers to spark its offense by working hard on the defensive end but allowed the Timberwolves to shoot 58.1 percent from the floor in Wednesday's loss. "We got stops. We didn't get stops the whole game," Jazz center Rudy Gobert told reporters. "Whenever we started to get stops, we got some life. You could feel it - the ball started moving, we stopped turning it over, and we scored pretty easily. The offense was pretty good tonight. we just gotta be able to get stops." Gobert did his part by adding three blocks to his 22 points and 13 rebounds - his seventh double-double in as many games to start the season.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Grizzlies reserve PG Shelvin Mack recorded season highs of 14 points and eight assists on Tuesday.

2. Jazz SG Donovan Mitchell left Wednesday's game in the fourth quarter with hamstring tightness and is questionable.

3. Utah SG Alec Burks (hand) sat out the last two games and is day-to-day.

PREDICTION: Jazz 98, Grizzlies 95

Toronto Raptors vs Phoenix Suns Preview and Predictions

The Toronto Raptors look to continue the best start in franchise history when they open a four-game road trip against the Phoenix Suns on Friday. Toronto's 7-1 start includes a 6-0 mark at home and it now faces a road swing that includes games against the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings.

The Raptors routed the Philadelphia 76ers 129-112 on Tuesday as offseason acquisition Kawhi Leonard tallied 31 points for his third 30-point effort in six games played. Point guard Kyle Lowry is meshing well with Leonard and recorded 10 or more assists in a personal-best six consecutive games. Phoenix is struggling with six straight losses and was annihilated 120-90 by the visiting San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. The Suns have already lost four games by 20 or more points and will likely be without star shooting guard Devin Booker (hamstring) for the fourth straight game.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet One (Toronto), FS Arizona (Phoenix)

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (7-1): Leonard is a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and he has been a difference maker, and he was the main reason why 76ers ballhander Ben Simmons committed 11 turnovers in Tuesday's game. "He can guard the ball, he can guard people coming off pin-downs, he can guard guys on the post, but mostly I think it's his natural instinct for getting his hands on stuff," Toronto coach Nick Nurse told reporters of Leonard. "The ball is popping around and, all of a sudden, boom, he comes out of there with it in any variety of ways." Center Jonas Valanciunas scored in double digits in six straight games and had a season-high 23 points in 17 minutes off the bench against Philadelphia.

ABOUT THE SUNS (1-6): Phoenix tallied just 15 first-quarter points and trailed by 21 at halftime against San Antonio in a game that wasn't competitive from the outset. "We're going to come back and we're going to learn and watch some film and get better," rookie forward Mikal Bridges told reporters afterward. "Just playing as a team, going out there and just fighting." The Suns allowed at least 117 points in each contest of the six-game slide while losing by an average of 20.7 points.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Raptors won last season's two meetings by an average of 9.5 points.

2. Toronto backup PG Fred VanVleet (toe) has missed four consecutive contests and is questionable for Friday's game.

3. Phoenix PG Isaiah Canaan (ankle) could miss his second straight game.

PREDICTION: Raptors 114, Suns 98

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Golden State Warriors Preview and Predictions

The Minnesota Timberwolves expect disgruntled superstar Jimmy Butler to suit up on Friday, but they might not need him. The Timberwolves will look for another turn-back-the-clock performance from former MVP Derrick Rose when they continue their road trip by visiting the defending champion Golden State Warriors on Friday.

Butler, who is still actively seeking a trade out of Minnesota, sat out to rest on Wednesday and watched Rose explode for a career-high 50 points in a 128-125 win at Utah. "It means a lot, man," Rose told reporters. "It shows we're coming together as a team. We're getting close. And it's touching, bro. Just being in this position. It still didn't even hit me yet. Words can't explain how I feel right now. It's been a while." The Warriors have several players on the roster capable of scoring 50 points and are looking like the best team in the NBA again while riding a six-game winning streak. Golden State shooting guard Klay Thompson exploded for an NBA-record 14 3-pointers and 52 points in a 149-124 win at Chicago on Monday but only needed to hit one 3-pointer and score 18 on Wednesday as Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and company took over in a 131-121 triumph over the New Orleans Pelicans.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, FS North (Minnesota), NBCS Bay Area (Golden State)

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (4-4): Rose was supposed to be a useful bench piece for Minnesota after a series of injuries knocked him off the peak that led to an MVP Award in 2011, but the 30-year-old is still capable of leaving his teammates in awe. "D-Rose is the man," center Karl-Anthony Towns told reporters. "The legend. Myth. Vintage. It was numbing. I never realized something like that in my life. The man was just out there floating. It seemed like he couldn't do no wrong." Rose went 19-of-31 from the floor in 41 minutes on Wednesday and knocked down four 3-pointers - one shy of his total from the first seven games.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (8-1): Green will rarely be the player leading Golden State in scoring, but his plethora of skills was on display Wednesday, when he collected 16 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. "I thought he was probably the best player on the floor tonight," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters of Green. "I know other guys had some big point totals and all that, but this was not a very clean game for us and when the game gets a little grimy that seems to be when Draymond is at his best. We needed his grit, his rebounding, his defense and he came through in a big way." Green takes a lot of pride in his work at the defensive end and told reporters after the win that his goal this season is to win Defensive Player of the Year for the second time.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Timberwolves PG Jeff Teague (knee) sat out Wednesday and is day-to-day.

2. Warriors PG Shaun Livingston (foot) sat out the last three contests and is questionable to return on Friday.

3. Golden State took six of the last eight meetings.

PREDICTION: Warriors 135, Timberwolves 121
