FALLING BEHIND
Deron Williams had a career-high 34 points - including 18 in the fourth quarter - in Utah's 108-100 loss to San Antonio in the Western Conference finals opener Sunday. The Jazz made 10 straight shots and got within seven points in the fourth, but they never led after the Spurs went up 14-13 with 5:17 left in the first quarter.
FAN FAVORITE
The Spurs' Robert Horry, returning from a two-game suspension for his hard foul on Phoenix's Steve Nash, received a long, loud standing ovation in San Antonio's 108-100 win over Utah on Sunday. He drew another big cheer the first time he went in after halftime, but didn't score - or take a shot - in 15 minutes.
SPEAKING
''Without them this definitely wouldn't be possible. We've been talking about trying to make a run, we've been chanting, 'championship' all year and now we've made it closer to what we want to accomplish.'' - LeBron James, acknowledging his teammates played a big role in lifting Cleveland to the conference finals for the first time since 1992.
