Atlanta (26-17, 23-20 ATS) at Miami (23-19, 19-21-2 ATS)

The Hawks head to American Airlines Arena in Miami looking to rebound from a difficult Sunday afternoon home loss when they face the Heat in this Eastern Conference matchup.

Atlanta fell 104-99 to the Suns as a four-point home favorite on Sunday, snapping a three-game winning streak (2-1 ATS) that included Friday’s117-87 blowout of the Bucks as a 5½-point home chalk. The Hawks are just 9-12 away from Atlanta this season, but they’ve been a good road bet, cashing in 13 of those 21 contests.

Miami has alternated SU wins and losses in its last five (3-2 ATS), but is coming off Saturday’s surprising 103-97 home win over the in-state rival Magic, prevailing as a 7½-point pup. The Heat are only 13-7 SU and 8-11-1 ATS in front of the home fans this season.

The Hawks have won four of the last five (3-2 ATS) in this series, including a 87-73 win in South Beach back on Dec. 12, cashing as two-point pups. Atlanta has prevailed in two of its last three trips to Miami (2-1 ATS) but it is just 3-11 ATS in their last 14 trips to Florida and 7-19 ATS in the last 26 series clashes overall.

Atlanta is just 2-5 ATS in its last seven against Southeast Division opponents, but otherwise is on ATS streaks of 9-4 on the road, 7-1 as an underdog, 7-1 on the second night of a back-to-back and 5-1 as a road ‘dog. The Heat are 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after getting a day off, but they also carry a host of negative pointspread trends into this one, including 0-6 on Mondays, 14-37-1 as a favorite, 19-40-1 as a home favorite and 1-4-1 at home against teams with a losing road record.

The Hawks have stayed under the total in five of their last eight against the Southeast Division, but they have topped the total in 10 of 15 overall, five of seven on Monday and four of five on the second night of a back-to-back. For Miami, the over is 7-2 in its last nine overall, but the under is on runs of 7-3 at home, 5-2 against Southeast Division foes and 4-1 as a home favorite.

ATS ADVANTAGE: NONE

Philadelphia (21-21 SU and ATS) at New Orleans (26-14, 17-21-2 ATS)

The red-hot Sixers, winners of eight of their last nine, make the trek to the Big Easy for a showdown with the Hornets.

Philadelphia has found its offense lately, topping the century mark in eight of its last 10, including in Saturday’s 116-110 home victory over the Knicks, though it came up just short as 7½-point favorites. The Sixers, who climbed back to .500 with the victory over New York, have won and covered in three straight on the highway, and they are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 overall.

New Orleans had its three-game winning streak (2-1 ATS) snapped Friday night in Minnesota, losing 116-108 as a one-point road underdog. The Hornets tend to clamp down defensively at home, allowing just 90.6 points per game in New Orleans while scoring 97.1.

These two haven’t met since November 2007 when the Hornets swept a home-and-home series, winning 95-76 as nine-point home favorites, then scoring a 93-72 road win as a 2½-point chalk. New Orleans is 6-3 ATS in the last nine series meetings and 4-1 ATS in the last five played in the Big Easy.

In addition to its ongoing ATS streaks of 8-2 overall and 3-0 on the road, Philadelphia comes into this one on positive pointspread runs of 4-1 against the Western Conference, 10-2 against the Southwest Division, 6-1 after a straight-up win and 5-2 after getting one day off. The Hornets are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight against the Eastern Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last five at home against teams with a losing road mark, but they are on positive ATS streaks of 44-19-2 after a straight-up loss and 11-5-1 against the Atlantic Division.

The Sixers have stayed under the total in 21 of 28 Monday contests and 11 of 17 games after getting a day off, but they are on “over” runs that include 7-3 against the Western Conference, 8-2 on the road, 5-0 after a non-cover and 7-3 against teams with a winning record. New Orleans is on “over” stretches of 7-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 after a non-cover, but it is also on under streaks of 11-5-1 after a straight-up loss, 7-2 at home and 4-1-1 against the Eastern Conference. Finally, the under is 5-1 in the last six clashes between these squads, but the over is 8-3 in the last 11 played in New Orleans.

ATS ADVANTAGE: PHILADELPHIA

Hollins had two previous stints as the Grizzlies coach, both on an interim basis. He was 0-4 in 2004-05 when he bridged the gap between Hubie Brown’s resignation and the hiring of Mike Fratello. SIDELINED

The Milwaukee Bucks announced Sunday leading scorer Michael Redd will miss the rest of the season with torn ligaments in his left knee. Redd missed 14 games with an ankle injury and was just starting to look like the player who helped Team USA reclaim the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics last summer. However, in the third quarter of Saturday night’s victory over Sacramento, Redd landed awkwardly on teammate Luke Ridnour’s foot after missing a shot near the basket. Redd had an MRI exam on Sunday that revealed the extent of the injury. A surgery date has not been scheduled.

SITTING OUT

Yao Ming’s sore right knee sidelined him for Houston’s win at Detroit on Sunday night just as the Rockets welcomed back Tracy McGrady and Ron Artest. Yao said his knee was “close” to being healthy enough to play and hoped to be back in the lineup Monday night at New York. Houston coach Rick Adelman said he has “no idea” when Yao will play again, saying he’s day to day.

STRUGGLING

Sacramento’s 113-97 loss at Toronto on Sunday dropped the Kings to 0-18 against Eastern Conference opponents this season. They have not beaten an East team since a 106-100 home win over Toronto on March 16, 2008. Sacramento has also lost 15 of its past 16 road games and is 3-20 overall away from home.

SPEAKING

“We ended the half poorly and they got that six-point lead. Then they came out in the second half and hit two quick 3s, and it seemed to go downhill from there. I thought the effort was OK, defensively. But we had a couple of lapses that turned right into points and gave them a lead that we couldn’t get back from.”—San Antonio’s Tim Duncan after the Spurs’ 99-85 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

Tips and Trends

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat

Hawks: Atlanta saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday with a 104-99 home loss to Phoenix. The Hawks shot less than 42 percent from the field and saw leading scorer Joe Johnson make only 5-of-20 shots from the field, including 1-of-6 from 3 point range. In fact, Johnson and Mike Bibby made just two 3-pointers and four free throws between them. "Every loss is tough, but it's like we are going to go and hide," Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson said. "We are pretty good at home, so we will be OK. This is basketball. We are trying to secure that fourth seed in the playoffs, and tomorrow we have to go to Miami and get it back."

Hawks are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games.
The OVER is 10-4 in Atlanta's last 14 games overall.

Key Injuries - G Acie Law (thigh) is questionable.
F Al Horford (knee) is OUT.

PROJECTED SCORE: 98 (OVER - Total Play of the Day)

Heat (-3.5, O/U 193.5): Miami will try to win consecutive games for only the second time in 2009 following a 103-97 win over Orlando on Saturday. The Heat continue a four-game homestand and have split the first two games so far against playoff-caliber opponents. The Hawks are next in line and will be another tough opponent, currently sitting in the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference. Miami is just 2.5 games behind them and will look to avoid losing for the fifth time in six meetings.

Heat are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
The OVER is 7-2 in Miami's last 9 home games.

Key Injuries - F Shawn Marion (groin) is day-to-day.

PROJECTED SCORE: 102

Monday Research

Phoenix vs. Washington

Phoenix finally bounced-back after a series of losses. They defeated the Hawks on the road despite the Hawks having revenge and playing well. The Suns now hit the road north to Washington who come off a tough west coast road trip. Phoenix is 2-7-1 ATS over their last 9 although they did cover their last game. These two teams have not met this year. Washington did beat NY at home, but also lost to the Bucks, Bobcats and Raptors at home as well (also, losing those covers). As I write this, there is no line, but I lean slightly on the Suns here as I just don't trust the Wiz, but they do come home off a tough road trip. I'm staying away - but note, the Wiz 2-8 ATS. In short, these two teams combined are 4-15-1 ATS over their last 20 games.

Atlanta vs. Miami

How does Atlanta respond back? Ironically, Atlanta is in the same boat as Phoenix was when they played ATL. ATL plays a team in Miami whom they had earlier this year 87-73 on the road in December when Miami was a bit banged up. Yet, Atl comes off an SU and ATS loss to the Suns at home. So, Atlanta is playing off a bounce-back loss with a team that has revenge against them today in the Heat. This was the same situation when the Suns were coming off that ugly loss to the Bobcats on the road but managed to beat the Hawks despite Atl having revene in that game. I think Atl shows up well today - but Miami is so strong at home. They just defeated the Magic for God sakes - let me rephrase - they just beat the Magic on a bounce-back for God sakes - which is even tougher to do - who they had revenge against. They also defeated the Cavs and Lakers at home as well. A lean on Miami, but likely staying away as they are the public favorite by 64%.

Houston vs. New York

Houston beat this team 96-76 earlier this year at home so NY undoubtedly does have revenge. Houston comes off a big win over Detroit on the road as McGrady made it back for that game to score 15 pionts, but Artest put up 24 against the team and place he dislikes so much in the Palace. NY comes off a tough road loss to Philly despite having revenge (did manage to cover the 7.5), they have covered their last 4 in a row and 7 of thier last 10. Heck, remember, this team even beat NO on the road as well. A lean on NY and the over here as they are likely to be game and I can't see them being held to under 80 points in the Garden like they were in Houston.

Minnesota vs. Milwaukee

Milwaukee has revenge in this game from a 104-106 win by Minny at home back on 1/10. But, Milwaukee is without Michael Redd for the year (currently, Milwaukee is in 8th and would make it to the playoffs if it were held today) - and Minnesota is rolling right now. The Twolves have won 9 of 11 SU and are 7-2-1 ATS over the last 10 as well. Milwaukee comes off a win over SAC but of course, it was a costly win as they won by 2, failed to cover and lost Redd for the year. I don't see a line yet, but I would not be surprised to see Minny roll here.

Philadelphia vs. New Orleans

These two teams have not met this year. NO will be without Chandler and West is listed as questionable. Philly is 8-2 SU over the last 10, and after covering 8 in a row, Philly has lost the last 2 covers, although they did beat the Knicks SU at home most recently. NO of course returns home after a loss to the Twolves on the road. NO does return home, but having said that, the Sixers are rock solid of late and don't forget NO did lose to Knicks at home.

New Jersey vs. Oklahoma City

I can actually see OKC winning this game. For starters, over 65% of the public is riding NJ here as the public dog. Plus, OKC lost to this team in OT last time around, so they do have revenge on that front. On top of that OKC is coming off a road loss to the Clippers after winning at GS as a let down, so I can see them coming back here at home and winning this. The Nets have played well, but they do come off a win against Memphis and they might not be expecting too much a contest here, but I think they get it as OKC will likely be very game today.

Portland vs. L.A. Clippers

Portland actually has revenge in this game. When the Clips were healthy, they went to Portland and won in OT 120-112. That was the game when Davis and Randolph were healthy. Well, now these two fellas are banged up and Davis is day to day. The Clippers did beat OKC at home, but come off a roughly a 20 point loss on the road to GS so will look to bounce-back here. I can see this going either way as the Clippers have a way of showing up at home - heck, they did beat Milwaukee at home (when Redd was healthy). I just don't want to go against Portland who has revenge though.

Additional Notes:

Phoenix: Shaq is listed as probable for the Suns today.
Houston: Yao, McGrady are listed as probable. Artest is listed as questionable.
Atlanta: Horoford is still listed as OUT.
Miami: Marion is listed as Doubtful.
Hornets: West is questionable and Chandler is still listed as OUT.
Portland: Blake is OUT, Camby is listed as Doubtful. Baron is listed as D-to-D.
