NBA Today

SCOREBOARD

Saturday, Jan. 17

New Orleans at Detroit (7:30 p.m. EST). Hornets guard Chris Paul had a triple-double in Wednesday’s win over the Mavericks. The Pistons have lost four in a row.

STARS

Friday

— LeBron James, Cavaliers, had 29 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists to give Cleveland its 20th straight home win, 92-78 over the Hornets.

— Dwight Howard, Magic, had 25 points and 20 rebounds for his league-leading 30th double-double of the season in a 109-103 win over the Lakers.

— Antawn Jamison, Wizards, scored 28 points and spurred a late 15-0 run in a 96-89 victory over the Knicks.

— Thaddeus Young, 76ers, had a career-high 27 points in a 109-87 rout of the Spurs, giving Philadelphia its sixth straight win.

— Mike Dunleavy, Pacers, scored 22 points and made three free throws with less than a minute left to preserve a 111-104 victory over the Raptors.

— Kevin Durant, Thunder, had 32 points in an 89-79 win over the Pistons, giving Oklahoma City consecutive victories for the first time since moving from Seattle.

— Michael Redd, Bucks, scored a season-high 44 points in a 129-122 victory over the Kings.

FINED

The league fined Mavericks owner Mark Cuban $25,000 for arguing with J.R. Smith at halftime of their game against the Nuggets, and his conduct immediately following the 99-97 loss on Tuesday. The penalty was the 14th the league has announced against Cuban, who’s been fined about $1.5 million over the years and suspended from three games.

SWAP MEET

Charlotte and coach Larry Brown continued to tinker with the Bobcats’ roster, acquiring 7-foot defensive specialist DeSagana Diop from the Mavericks for guard Matt Carroll and center Ryan Hollins. The Bobcats’ second trade in just over a month wasn’t nearly as big as the deal that sent top scorer Jason Richardson to Phoenix. But the move helps in Brown’s quest to get bigger up front and better defensively.

INJURIES

Cavaliers starting guard Delonte West will miss up to six weeks with a broken right wrist sustained in a nasty fall on Thursday night in Chicago. … Warriors guard C.J. Watson was scheduled to undergo an MRI exam to determine the extent of an injury to his left big toe and missed their game against Atlanta.

HOME COOKIN’

LeBron James nearly had a triple-double to help the Cavaliers win their 20th straight at home, 92-78 over the Hornets. He finished with 29 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists one night after going 8-of-28 with eight turnovers in an overtime loss at Chicago.

TRIPLE D’OH

Kobe Bryant had 28 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists for his 15th career triple-double, but the Lakers star missed two jumpers in the waning moments of a 109-103 loss to the Magic. It was Bryant’s first triple-double since April 1, 2005.

STREAKING

Toronto has dropped four straight after a 111-104 loss to the Pacers. … The Wizards snapped a six-game slide with a 96-89 win over the Knicks. … The 76ers won their sixth straight, 109-87 over the Spurs. … The Jazz won their seventh straight against Memphis, getting 27 points from Deron Williams in a 101-91 win.

MAGIC! SORT OF…

Assistants had to open a sealed water chamber to rescue award-winning magician Kristen Johnson as she performed an escape act at midcourt during halftime of the Pistons-Thunder game in Oklahoma City. She waved to the crowd during the third-quarter break to show she was OK.

SPEAKING

“It’s funny. I’m here in Cleveland a lot all summer. The two guys sitting courtside are two guys I’m with pretty often. They asked me what happened. I said, ‘They called an offensive foul, ain’t that a trip?’ The referee heard me tell them that and he threw me out. I ain’t got no reason to lie. I didn’t say any curse words, but I got ejected. Do you think that’s a reason to get ejected from a game?”—Hornets guard Chris Paul, explaining how he got tossed after a second technical foul in a 92-78 loss to the Cavaliers.
