SUPER SUB
Allen Iverson scored 17 points in his first game as a reserve this season, leading Detroit over Milwaukee, 107-97. Iverson was benched by Pistons coach Michael Curry to begin the game, punishment for missing a mandatory team practice on Thanksgiving. He apologized Friday morning, then sat on the bench for almost 10 minutes as Rodney Stuckey started instead.
SUSPENDED
Stephon Marbury was suspended one game and docked nearly $400,000 in salary Friday by the New York Knicks, who say he refused to play in a loss this week at Detroit. The disgruntled guard insists coach Mike D’Antoni never ordered him to play and plans to appeal. Marbury will not be paid when he sits out Saturday’s home game against Golden State and will lose an additional game’s pay for his conduct Wednesday in the 110-96 defeat. Marbury earns approximately $21 million in salary this year, drawing about $190,000 a game.
SHUT UP!
LeBron James reacted strongly to Charles Barkley’s comments that the Cavaliers star isn’t showing respect for Cleveland fans and his teammates by discussing his possible free agency following the 2010 season. “He’s stupid. That’s all I’ve got to say about that,” James said. Barkley made the comments on TNT’s NBA studio show and Dan Patrick’s radio show. “If I was LeBron James, I would shut the hell up,” the Hall of Famer said on Patrick’s show. “I’m a big LeBron fan. He’s a stud. You gotta give him his props. I’m getting so annoyed he’s talking about what he’s going to do in two years. I think it’s disrespectful to the game. I think it’s disrespectful to the Cavaliers.”
SURGING SPURS
Tony Parker had 15 points and seven assists in his first game in three weeks, helping San Antonio to a 109-98 victory over Memphis. With Parker and Manu Ginobili now back from injuries, the Spurs are healthy for the first time this season and have won four straight and eight of 10 after a 1-4 start.
SAFE AT HOME
Cleveland matched the best home start in franchise history Friday by beating Golden State, 112-97. The Cavaliers (13-3) have won 12 of 13 and are a league-best 9-0 at home, equaling their top home start, first set in 1976-77 and repeated in 1991-92. … Portland improved to 7-0 this season at the Rose Garden, its best start at home since it went 9-0 in the 1998-99 season, by beating New Orleans 101-86.
SPEAKING
“With everything going on, I wanted to play well. I just wanted to play well. Especially for my teammates because I let them down by not being here.”— Allen Iverson, after scoring 17 points in Detroit’s 107-97 victory over Milwaukee while playing as a reserve for the first time this season, a day after he missed a practice on Thanksgiving.

Boston vs. Charlotte
Boston comes off thumping Philly at home and now hits the road to Charlotte who played admirably against the Pacers and managed to cover. The line has yet to come out in this game, but I'm sure the public will hammer the Celtics to a tune of 65%-75%, but I have a rule to never trust the Bobcats - pro or con.
Indiana vs. Orlando
Orlando looked great on the road at Washington to my dismay as that was a pick I had a while back, and the line opened up at -8 and has gone up slightly to -8.5. Orlando is the favorite by about 65% of the pub here. Remember, they beat this team in OT back on 11/21. I think Indiana can hang tough here and usually when Orlando loses at home with ATS cover, the game also goes over as their opponent is an active road dog. Plus, I think Indiana will put up their fair share of points on the road with their revenge.
Atlanta vs. Washington
What a line, Washington -1. Lol. I have a feeling that 75% will back Atlanta here when the consensus comes out. But, I have a rule never to take that much of a pub favorite. But, Washington comes off that ugly loss against Orlando and maybe Vegas is counting on a bounce-back but Atlanta is the better team with the better starting lineup here, not to mention coming off a loss to Toronto. no thanks.
Golden State vs. New York
GS comes off a tough loss to Boston on the road, but they did cover and that game did go over. There is no line in this game, but the absence of Crawford to GS and Harrington in the lineup I think has really messed with the mojo of this team. Consequently, they have lost back to back games. Remember, Jamal Crawford plays against his old team in the Knicks here so he will be fired up for this game. And, what a great trade for the W's - they now have a third scoring option behind Jackson and Maggatte. Heck, I could see the Warriors winning this game on the ML if you ask me as I don't think the Knicks have gelled yet with the absence of Crawford and the I think GS might have gelled better with Crawford already.
Oklahoma City vs. Memphis
How bad do the Thunder stink. I'm a little perturbed that this team only lost by 2 to the Twolves on the road as I had the Twolves -2. Oh well. I understand that 67% are riding Memphis here, but Memphis comes off a tough road trip getting blown out at Utah and losing to SA on the road (missing that cover by 1/2 point). I can see Memphis getting their frustrations out here as they return home and winning in a big way for morale.
