Washington +9 over SAN ANTONIO
The Spurs will put their 3-game winning streak on the line tonight when they host the high-scoring Wizards. San Antonio is coming off a 92-83 win at Denver on Wednesday, despite trailing at halftime and hitting only 43% of their free throws. Washington lost last night at New Orleans and, 104-97, ending a an 18-game streak of scoring 100+ points.
The Wizards should come to play here, having won 16 of their last 22 games following a tough start, and their offense has been a key reason. Washington has averaged 109 points the first 2 weeks of the new year, and its 107.9 average for the season is second only to Phoenix.
The Wizards are 5-0 ATS (+8.7 ppg) off a SU loss with more than 20 fast-break points, and will look for some more easy buckets here. They have covered the spread in their last 3 visits to the Spurs, and Washington is tremendous as a big dog, going 12-0 ATS as an underdog of 7+ points!
San Antonio is 0-5 ATS (-5.4 ppg) as a favorite with 2+ days rest off 2 SU wins. They will likely have their hands full tonight with a Wizards team eager to measure themselves against an elite team. While the Spurs may get the “W”, it’s likely to be a single-digit spread and stay under this large number.
