NBA Tips and Trends
Toronto Raptors at Detroit Pistons
Raptors: The Raptors are trying to avoid a seventh-place finish in the East, which would pit them against these Pistons in the first round of the playoffs. Toronto has won 2 straight, including beating New Jersey 113-85 on Friday night, and has beaten its last 2 opponents by an average margin of 23 points. However, the Raptors have been terrible at Detroit in recent years, no wins since 2003, while scoring just 88 points per game.
Raptors are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games.
Key Injuries - NONE
PROJECTED SCORE: 88
Pistons (-6.5, O/U 185.5): Having locked up the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, Detroit has been able to give its starters a break. Richard Hamilton was the only Detroit starter to play more than 24 minutes on Friday night and that was only to get him into playing shape. The Pistons got 52 points from their bench overall in a dominating win over the Wizards that night. Detroit has defeated Toronto 9 straight times in the Palace.
Pistons are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games.
Key Injuries - NONE
PROJECTED SCORE: 98 (Side Play of the Day)
San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers
Spurs: San Antonio continues to roll towards the playoffs winners of 10 of its last 12 overall, including blowing out the Sonics by 21-points on Friday night. The Spurs are still in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the West, but desperately need this win to keep in contention. Manu Ginobili (groin) did not play against the Sonics and Greg Popovich said he is ?doubtful? for this game. The Spurs have held the Lakers to 95 ppg on the season, and have won 2 of the 3 meetings.
Spurs are are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Key Injuries - Spurs G Manu Ginobili (20 ppg; groin) is doubtful.
PROJECTED SCORE: TBD
Lakers (-No Line, O/U No Line): The Lakers are fresh off a huge 107-104 win Friday night against the West leading Hornets, which saw Kobe Bryant putting up 29 points and 10 rebounds. Los Angeles is now very much in striking distance of the Hornets for that No. 1 West seed and Bryant said: "That was the first step. We want to take another one Sunday." The Lakers have won 2 straight and 6 of their last 7 overall.
Lakers are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
Key Injuries - NONE
PROJECTED SCORE: TBD
Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets
Rockets: The Rockets had nine days with five games and two practices to sharpen their offense. Coach Rick Adelman said there remains work to do, but the strong offensive showing against the Suns on Friday night (101-90 victory) represented a major step in that direction. The Rockets have been a covering machine against the Nuggets: 7-1 ATS last 8 meetings.
Rockets are 16-6 ATS in their last 22 road games.
Key Injuries - Rockets F Shane Battier (9 ppg; foot) is questionable.
PROJECTED SCORE: 101
Nuggets (-6, O/U 208): The Nuggets are looking good. But coach George Karl stresses they?re not ?out of the woods.? Denver defeated Golden State 114-105 Thursday to put themselves in great position for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West, but it still needs to keep winning. The Nuggets have suffered just 1 home loss in the last month and a-half while lighting up the scoreboard to the tone of 113 ppg.
Nuggets are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games.
Key Injuries - NONE
PROJECTED SCORE: 107
