NBA Tips and Trends

Philadelphia 76ers at Detroit Pistons

76ers: Philly now has home-court advantage in this series after a 90-86 win in Game 1 thanks to the outstanding play of the team's starting backcourt. Andre Miller and Willie Green outscored Detroit's Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton 37-27, making 16-of-29 shots from the field (55 percent). "It's a great confidence booster for us," Green. "But we've got to stay focused. We can't get complacent." Billups and Hamilton connected on just 8-of-26 of their shots (31 percent) and now have to contend with a 76ers team that has won 10 straight first-round playoff series when capturing Game 1.

76ers are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games.
76ers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games vs. Central Division.
76ers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 Wednesday games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Pistons (-10, O/U 178): Detroit remains confident despite blowing a 13-point halftime lead in Game 1, but it's how the Pistons lost that has insiders concerned. They missed 14 lay-ups and saw 13 of their turnovers converted into 18 points. "We've been in this position many times before and we've capitalized every time back-and-forth in the last six years," Detroit forward Tayshaun Prince said. "Then, all of a sudden, when you don't do it, it seems like a problem. It's not a problem. We're not going to pull out every close game just because we're the more experienced ball club or we've been there before."

Pistons are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games.
Pistons are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 Wednesday games.
Pistons are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games vs. Atlantic Division.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics

Hawks: Atlanta rookie Al Horford was the lone bright spot in an otherwise dismal return to the playoffs for the first time since 1999. Horford made 7-of-10 shots from the field en route to 20 points while his fellow starters made just 14-of-49 (29 percent). "Obviously, the similarity (in college and pro postseasons) is a different atmosphere from the regular season; you can feel it in the air," Horford said. "But as far as other differences, you have to come back and play. It's the best-of-seven here. In school, our mentality was win or go home. Here, we have a chance to redeem ourselves and play another game."

Hawks are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
The UNDER is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings at Boston.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Celtics (-15, O/U 189): Much was made of Boston point guard Rajon Rondo's inexperience heading into the playoffs, but the second-year player delivered 15 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds against Atlanta's Mike Bibby, who had played in 51 more playoff games during his career. Sam Cassell was even brought in to help spell Rondo, but he played just 16 minutes and scored 10 points. "I was pretty comfortable," Rondo said. "I didn't really get nervous; I tried to approach it like a regular season (game), but I knew the intensity would be a lot higher and the crowd would be a lot better."

Celtics are 20-6 ATS in their last 26 games overall, covering 5 straight.
The UNDER is 11-5 in Boston's last 16 games as a favorite.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Lakers

Nuggets: The Staples Center crowd tried to get under the skin of Denver star Carmelo Anthony following his arrest last week for driving under the influence by chanting "DU, DUI, DUI" but he just took it in stride. "It was funny to me," Anthony said. "I was able to block it out and just focus on what I need to focus on. I wasn't expecting anything different. I'm on the road." He hit 8-of-10 from the charity stripe and will need to continue to keep his cool throughout the series if the Nuggets hope to win a game.

The UNDER is 5-1 in Denver's last 6 games overall.

Key Injuries - Nene Hilario (5 ppg; groin) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Lakers (-7.5, O/U 229): LA was able to win Game 1 despite some poor early shooting from star Kobe Bryant, who made just 5 of his first 20 shots. Bryant ended up 9-of-26 from the field and finished with 32 points, including 18 in the final 8 minutes. The more disappointing part of his game was the 1 assist he posted after averaging 7.7 against the Nuggets during the regular season. None of that seemed to matter though as Pau Gasol totaled 36 points, 16 rebounds and 8 assists for the Lakers against 2007 Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Camby.

Lakers are 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
Lakers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD
