**Georgetown at Syracuse**
Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened Syracuse (19-1 straight up, 12-4 against the spread) as a six-point favorite.
Georgetown (15-3 SU, 8-6 ATS) is 1-2 both SU and ATS as an underdog this year. The Hoyas won this past Wednesday at Pitt by a 74-66 count as one-point road underdogs. They lost at Villanova and at Marquette in short ‘dog situations.
Jim Boeheim’s team is riding a six-game winning streak after knocking off Marquette 76-71 on Saturday. However, the Orange saw its five-game ATS surge end against the Golden Eagles, who covered the number as 8½-point underdogs. The 147 combined points slipped ‘over’ the 143-point total. Wesley Johnson paced the ‘Cuse with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Georgetown cruised to an easy victory Saturday, trouncing Rutgers 88-63 as a 19 ½-point home ‘chalk.’ Sophomore center Greg Monroe led the way with 21 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Chris Wright added 16 points, six assists and four boards.
Syracuse is 12-1 SU and 5-4 ATS at home this season. The Orange have been a single-digit home ‘chalk’ twice, going 1-1 ATS.
Johnson, a transfer from Iowa St., is averaging a team-high 17.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the ‘Cuse.
Syracuse has taken the money in five of its last six games against the Hoyas. When these teams met at the Carrier Dome last season, the Orange captured a 98-94 win in overtime as a 3 ½-point home favorite. Arinze Onuaku had 15 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots for the winners.
The ‘over’ is 4-1 for the ‘Cuse in its home games, 6-6 overall.
The ‘over’ has cashed in five consecutive Georgetown games to improve to 8-6 for the season.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.
**Missouri at Kansas**
LVSC opened Kansas (18-1 SU, 8-7-1 ATS) as a 13-point favorite.
Missouri (15-4 SU, 8-5 ATS) collected a 70-53 home win Saturday over Nebraska as a 13-point favorite. The Tigers were led by Miguel Paul, who came off the bench to score a game-high 15 points in just 16 minutes of playing time. The 123 combined points fell ‘under’ the 138-point total.
Since taking its first and only loss at Tennessee two Sundays ago, KU has won four straight while compiling a 2-1-1 spread record. The Jayhawks captured an 84-61 win Saturday at Iowa St. as 11 ½-point road favorites. Cole Aldrich erupted for 19 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Bill Self’s squad is unbeaten in 12 home games with a 5-4 spread ledger. The Jayhawks have been favored by double digits in every lined home game.
Missouri has only been an underdog once this year, losing 89-83 at Vanderbilt as a 3 ½-point puppy.
These teams split a pair of meetings last year, but Kansas spanked Mizzou 90-65 as a 4 ½-point favorite when the Tigers came to Lawrence.
The ‘under’ is 9-6 overall for KU, 5-3 in its home assignments.
The ‘over’ is 6-5 overall for the Tigers, but they have seen the ‘under’ go 3-1 in their last four games.
ESPN will have television coverage at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
**B.E.’s Bonus Nuggets**
Bettors will have a late-night wagering option as Idaho will play host to Boise St. at 11:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPNU. LVSC opened the Vandals as 7½-point favorites.
FSU swept the season series from Ga. Tech by winning a 68-66 decision Sunday in Tallahassee. However, the Yellow Jackets covered the number as 4½-point road underdogs.
Florida junior forward Chandler Parsons hadn’t had an especially distinguished career – until recently, that is. Parsons hit a 70-foot desperation heave to lift the Gators to a 62-61 win at N.C. St. back on Jan. 3. Then on Saturday night, Parsons drained a 3-pointer from the left wing at the buzzer to propel UF to a 58-56 win over South Carolina. Billy Donovan’s team is now 14-5 overall, 3-2 in the SEC. With the Wolfpack beating Duke this past week, UF’s win in Raleigh looks a lot better and so do its chances of earning an NCAA Tournament bid. Since winning back-to-back national titles, Florida has been forced to settle for NIT bids the last two years.
In Saturday night’s losing effort, South Carolina’s Devan Downey was nothing short of sensational. Downey scored 36 of the Gamecocks’ 56 points, including the go-ahead bucket with 5.1 ticks left that preceded Parson’s game-winning trey.

What Bettors Need To Know: Georgetown at Syracuse

Inside battle
One might think that in Monday’s key matchup will be a battle between Hoyas center Greg Monroe and Orange center Arinze Onuaku. However, Monroe is not a traditional center, often working away from the basket, driving the lane and delivering crisp passes to open players.
Instead of Monroe, Onuaku will likely be matched up against the burly and more traditional post player, Julian Vaughn. Vaughn is arguably the most improved player on the Hoyas team, providing a presence in the post that the team struggled with last season. Because of his improvement, Georgetown is one of the Top 10 teams in the country.
Against Marquette Saturday, Syracuse outscored Marquette 56-22 in the paint and held a 46-to-21 advantage on the boards. Syracuse will need to be dominant against Georgetown if it hopes to improve to 7-1 in Big East play.
“We did a great job of executing the high-low,” Syracuse guard Andy Rautins told the Syracuse Post Standard after the win over Marquette. “We did a better job of half-court offense than we have all season in the first 15 minutes of the second half.”
Best starting five?
Georgetown might have the thinnest bench in the conference, but it could boast the best starting five in the country.
It seems that on any given night, a new Georgetown starter is erupting to lead the team. In a win over Connecticut, guard Austin Freeman scored 33 points. In a loss to Villanova on Jan. 17, Greg Monroe scored 29 points. On Jan. 20, Chris Wright scored 27 points en route to a win over Pittsburgh. Having so many scoring options provides matchup nightmares for opposing teams.
In a win over Rutgers Saturday, each of the five starters contributed, with four of the five scoring in double figures. Greg Monroe led the way with 21 points, 14 rebounds and continued to show his skills as the best passing big man in the country with six assists.
"It was basically taking high-percentage shots. I was getting the ball in position where I was getting easy shots. It wasn't anything I was doing in particular,” Monroe, who was 10-of-12 from the field including a 3-pointer, told the Washington Post.
Maintaining the lead
On Saturday, Syracuse led Marquette 70-53 with less than four minutes remaining. However, Marquette stormed back to cut the lead to five with just over a minute left.
“I think we lose our poise,” forward Wes Johnson told the told the Syracuse Post Standard. “We think just because there’s two minutes left on the clock and we’re up by double-figures that the game is over. We’ve gotta finish the whole 40 minutes and not 38.”
This has been a growing trend in Big East play, with teams down big coming back. Georgetown was down 15 points to Connecticut at halftime before coming back to win by three. Villanova was down 17 points to Louisville earlier in the season before pushing back to get an eight-point win.
Watch the fouls
If Georgetown has a weakness, it is foul trouble. In Georgetown’s loss to Villanova on Jan. 17, Chris Wright found himself in foul trouble and was on the bench for most of the game. Wright finished with six points in the Hoyas' five-point loss.
Forward Julian Vaughn fouled out against Villanova and played just 17 minutes. Without Wright and Vaughn on the floor, coach John Thompson III was forced to play inexperienced freshmen Hollis Thompson, Vee Sanford and Jerrelle Benimon. The three combined to go 1-of-12 from the field.
Benimon has been able to provide some solid minutes for the Hoyas, showing an ability to get to loose balls and grab critical rebound.
"Jerrelle goes up there really hard," forward Julian Vaughn told the Washington Post. "[It's] his niche, it's his thing. He loves to do it."

Idaho beat Boise State twice LY, by 4-2 points after losing previous ten games vs Broncos; Boise's last five wins at Idaho are by 12-3-18-14-11 points. Broncos are 0-7 in WAC, 2-2 as road dog, losing away games by 2-8-2-22 points; they're 1-5 vs spread in last six games. Idaho lost its last four games; they're 0-2 as WAC favorite. WAC home faves: 10-9.
Wofford, Chattanooga are both playing third game in five nights; Terriers split pair of two-point verdicts last week, losing at Charleston, beating Citadel- they've won five of their last six games, are 3-2-1 as favorite in SoCon. Mocs lost last three games by 24-13-3 points; they're 1-3 as a SoCon underdog. SoCon home favorites are 14-17 against the spread.
Charleston is 8-0 in SoCon, covering last five games; they're 4-0 on road in league, winning as dogs at Citadel/Samford. Western Carolina is 3-0 at home in SoCon (1-2 as home favorite), winning by 5-10-2 points- they lost by 13 at Appalachian State Saturday, putting ASU on line 43 times. Samford, Furman are both playing third game in five nites; coach Tillette had seizure on sideline Saturday, is in hospital. Bulldogs are 2-1 on road in SoCon, losing by 10 at Davidson, winning last two games, at Elon by 1, NC-Greensboro by 3. Furman lost four of last five games; they're 1-2 at home, beating Georgia Southern, losing to Davidson and W. Carolina.
Hoyas and Orangemen in Big East Battle

This is one of the storied rivalries from the Big East and it plays on in upstate New York. For Georgetown (15-3, 8-6 ATS), patience is truly a virtue. The Hoyas are at their best when the offense runs thru center Greg Monroe. The sophomore has displayed an acute awareness of how to play the game since arriving on campus and besides his ability to score, rebound and play defense, he has the knack of finding open shooters. Hes contributed assists to Austin Freeman and Chris Wright when they had career games this season. To the chagrin of backers, Monroe and mates are 5-10-1 ATS in January games over the last two seasons.
Syracuse (19-1, 12-4 ATS) hosted maddening Marquette on Saturday holding them off 76-71 as 8.5-point favorites and have quick turnaround for this battle. Besides the surprise element this team has produced, the Orangemen have been remarkably consistent, with very few valleys for coach Jim Boeheim. Wes Johnson has been a big reason for this, providing double-doubles most nights or close to it. Rick Jackson and Arinze Onuaku both do excellent work on the low boxes, which frees up visual lanes for shooters like Andy Rautins.
