Trends to Watch - Friday
VegasInsider.com

Top of the Atlantic

The showcase game on Friday night takes place between two of the top three teams in the Atlantic 10 as Rhode Island hosts Dayton. The Flyers edged the Rams in their earlier matchup in January, 67-64 for their fifth win over URI in the last six meetings.

The Rams are riding a four-game SU/ATS hot streak, as Dan Hurley’s squad owns an 11-1 home record this season. The Flyers have won each of their last three games, while owning a 4-1 ATS mark in A-10 road contests.

Not So Golden Grizzlies

Oakland looks to extend its winning streak to four with a trip to Detroit, but the Golden Grizzlies have failed to cover the spread in seven of the past nine games. One of those ATS setbacks came as a heavy 18½-point home favorite to Detroit in mid-January in a 93-88 defeat, the first loss to the Titans since January 2015.

Metro Madness

Three seasons ago, Manhattan represented the MAAC in the NCAA Tournament. However, the Jaspers have fallen back recently as Monmouth is now the new king of the league. The Hawks head to Manhattan looking to improve on a 12-2 conference mark, while going for the sweep of the Jaspers.

Monmouth has failed to cover the number in three straight games, although the Hawks are riding a 10-game hot streak. The Hawks have put together a 1-4 ATS record in the past five road games, while not cashing in an 82-71 win over Manhattan as 13½-point favorites. The Jaspers are 0-3 ATS in the past three contests, while finishing UNDER the total in eight of the last nine games overall.

Canisius has caught fire of late by winning three of four to improve to 8-6 in MAACtion. The Golden Griffins return home following road wins at Siena and St. Peter’s to host Niagara, who has dropped two straight. The Purple Eagles are 1-4 SU/ATS the last five away contests, but knocked off Canisius as a 4½-point home underdog last month, 91-84.

Climb the Ivy

It isn’t a Friday night in college basketball without a full slate of Ivy League action. Harvard and Brown both look to get back on track after suffering close losses last Saturday. The Crimson has lost two of three since a 3-0 start in conference play, but has won 14 consecutive meetings with the Bears since 2010. Brown has played five of six Ivy games on the road, but return home where they own a 5-1 ATS mark in the last six home conference contests.

Columbia is turning into a force in the Ivy with a 4-2 record, including three wins in their last four games. The Lions head to Penn looking to avoid an upset against a Quakers’ squad that is 0-6 SU/ATS inside the Ivy this season. Columbia has captured victories in four of the past five meetings with Penn, while winning six of its last eight road Ivy League contests.

Dartmouth owns one more league win than Penn, as the Big Green heads to Yale looking to hand the Bulldogs their second Ivy loss. Yale seeks its fifth consecutive victory after playing five of its last six games on the road, while posting a 4-1 ATS mark in the favorite role. The Bulldogs swept the season series from Dartmouth in 2016, but both games were decided by 10 points or less.

The only undefeated team in the Ivy is Princeton (6-0), who returns home after three road victories to host Cornell. The Big Red has stumbled of late by losing three of the past four, including recent home defeats to Brown and Yale. Princeton has owned Cornell by winning eight of the last nine meetings, including a pair of double-digit victories last season.

Big MAC

Ball State and Ohio tip off the night with a 6:30 PM EST matchup in Muncie as both teams own 6-5 records inside the conference. The Bobcats have won seven straight against the Cardinals since 2012, while trying to hand Ball State its third straight loss. Ball State has struggled of late as a favorite by compiling an 0-4 ATS mark in its last four, while Ohio has alternated wins and losses in its past seven contests after losing at home to Central Michigan.

Akron rebounded from its first MAC loss of the season last weekend as the Zips go for the season sweep of Eastern Michigan. The Zips will be the top seed in the MAC tournament barring a late meltdown at 10-1, but Akron has failed to cover the number in the last four games. EMU has gone backwards of late by losing five of its past six contests, while posting a 1-4 ATS mark at home inside the MAC (all as a favorite).
