Big Monday Tip Sheet
By Judd Hall

There are just two games this Monday that have Top 25 squads playing. And as luck would have it, they’re both on ESPN’s Big Monday card. But will all the teams be running at full strength?

Louisville Cardinals at Georgetown Hoyas – 7:00 p.m. EST

--Louisville (21-5 straight up, 16-10 against the spread) has won three straight matches since getting embarrassed by the Fighting Irish in South Bend on Feb. 12. The Cardinals have even appeased their backers by covering the spread in all three tilts as well.

--The Cards’ most recent win coming as 5 ½-point road favorites against Cincinnati, 72-63, last Saturday. Terrence Williams put in 20 points for Louisville as he continues to regain his shooting touch with a bruised right wrist. It also helps that they let the Bearcats reach the free throw line twice. Compare that to Louisville’s 14 shots at the charity stripe.

--While we can look at the ‘Ville getting more free throw attempts, but they owned the glass with 33 rebounds to Cincy’s 24 boards. And the Cardinals pulled in 14 of those rebounds on the offensive side of the court.

--Georgetown (14-11 SU, 7-13-1 ATS) has gone ice cold, losing eight of its last 10 games this season. The Hoyas desperately need to beat Marquette to give a boost to their NCAA Tournament hopes as three-point home favorites. And it looked like Georgetown would make a game of it as they were tied 44-44 at halftime against the Golden Eagles. But the Hoyas got one turnover, two offensive boards and one three-pointer in the second half as they lost 78-72 on Feb. 21.

--The defeat to Marquette does nothing but mean that the Hoyas need to have a miracle finish to the season for a chance at getting to “The Big Dance.” Even worse for bettors is the fact that Georgetown has failed to cover the spread just once in its last 10 contests.

--Las Vegas Sports Consultants have listed the Cardinals as two-point road favorites with a total of 133.

--Fans of playing totals might want to stay away from this contest since the Cards are 12-12, while the Hoyas have seen the ‘under’ go 11-10. However, Georgetown has cashed tickets for the ‘over’ in six of its 10 home games this season.

--The ‘under’ is 4-1 in the last five head-to-head meetings.

--Georgetown is 2-0 SU, 0-1-1 ATS when hosting the Cards since 2000.

--Louisville is 6-1 SU and ATS on the road against Big East Foes this season.

--The Hoyas are just 3-4 SU and 1-6 ATS in their seven home tilts in league play.

Kansas Jayhawks at Oklahoma Sooners – 9:00 p.m. EST

--Everyone gives the Sooners all the love when it comes to Big XII play, but Kansas (22-5 SU, 15-5-1 ATS) is doing just fine in league play. The Jayhawks have gone 11-1 in conference games to tie OU for first place.

--The ‘Hawks are coming off of a solid 70-53 win over Nebraska as 12-point home favorites last Saturday. Sherron Collins scored 22 points and Cole Aldrich put in 18 points with 12 rebounds to aid Kansas’ cause. It all wasn’t positive for the Jayhawks in this win. They lost the turnover battle (15-10) and hit just 56 percent from the charity stripe, which is disappointing when you consider they connect on 72.8 percent of those attempts normally.

--Oklahoma (25-2 SU, 12-9-1 ATS) knew that all it had to do was beat the Longhorns as a one-point road “chalk” last Saturday night to gain the No. 1 spot in the AP poll. Instead, the Sooners would up losing Blake Griffin to a concussion during the first half and allowed Texas’ A.J. Abrams to score 16 straight points over the final eight minutes to fall 73-68.

--It’s anyone’s guess as to whether Griffin will play on Monday. Recent reports show that his MRI was clear and his parents have said he is doing better. Yet the word has not been given that Griffin will be on the court at the Noble Center to face the Jayhawks.

--The Sooners are one of the best teams in the nation, but they do need Griffin to be a part of their gameplan. He leads all Big XILL scorers with 22.0 points per game this season. Griffin leads all rebounders in the nation with 13.8 boards per match. And he has 22 double-doubles this season to break the Oklahoma season record on that stat, but also leads the nation this year.

--Kansas is very interested in Griffin’s health as it will depend on how they defend the Sooners. If he’s in the lineup, look for the Jayhawks to double-team him throughout the game. If Griffin sits out, then the ‘Hawks can run their typical schemes. Regardless of his status, Kansas still ranks third in the league by giving up 64.3 PPG and holds opponents to 38.1 percent shooting from the field.

--LVSC hasn’t put out an overnight line for this game due to Griffin’s injury.

--Oklahoma has dominated its home court this season by going 15-0 SU. The gambling public can’t get an edge on them though since they’re just 5-5 ATS. Total players should enjoy knowing that the Sooners have watched the ‘over’ go 9-0 in home tilts.

--The Jayhawks have been a bettor’s best friend with a 15-5-1 mark ATS. And they are 6-0 ATS when on the road in Big XII play. The ‘under’ is 4-2 in those road matches for Bill Self’s crew.

--Kansas is 5-1 SU when they’re face to face with the Sooners. Yet the Jayhawks are just 3-3 ATS in those matches.

--Oklahoma is 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS in the last three times Kansas came to Norman.

NCAAB Today

Notes on today's games.

Georgetown lost eight of last ten games, are 3-4 at home in Big East and appear headed to NIT, or worse- they're 2-4 vs spread as an underdog in 2009. Louisville won last three games by 45-18-9 pts, scoring 88.3 ppg- they're 6-1 on Big East road, losing only at Notre Dame. Big East home underdogs are 11-20 against the spread.

Oklahoma star Griffin had concussion Saturday, is doubtful here-- they were all set to be #1 in country if they had won at Texas, but they lost 73-68, Sooners' first Big 12 loss. OU is 3-3 as home favorite, winning at home by 15-11-19-6-5-11 points. Jayhawks' only Big 12 loss was by 2 points at Missouri two weeks ago, in game they led 30-16 at the half.

Wofford (+5) lost 77-65 at Western Carolina Jan 31; WCU shot 60.8% from floor, but Catamounts are 0-4 vs spread as SoCon road dog, losing away games by 12-7-14-6-24-11-6 points (won at NC-Greensboro and Furman). Terriers won four of last five games, are 1-4 as home favorite in conference games, winning home games by 3-3-13-7 pts (4-4 SU).

Tenn-Martin lost at home to Missouri State in Bracket Buster, first loss in last 12 games for Skyhawks, who beat Murray State 75-71 at home n first meeting Jan 5. Racers lost at home to Louisiana Tech, their first loss in five games. Murray is 5-1 at home in OVC, losing only by a point to Austin Peay. OVC home favorites are 23-27 against the spread.

Charleston won four of last five games, winning last three road games, at Davidson/Appalachian State/Georgia Southern- they're 1-1 as underdog in SoCon road games. Cougars scored 77+ points in last seven wins, 68 or less in last four losses. Chattanooga won six of last seven games, are 4-4 as SoCom home favorite, winning at home by 27-4-7-13-22-9-5. .

This week's can't-miss college games
By MATT SEVERANCE

Here is the most intriguing matchup each night this week in college basketball, with a look at the best of the weekend coming Friday.

Kansas at Oklahoma (Monday, 9 p.m., ESPN)

Oklahoma’s loss to Texas on Saturday not only denies the Sooners the top spot in the polls, the team also fell into a tie for first with Kansas atop the Big 12.

A big reason for that OU loss on Saturday was the concussion suffered by All-American Blake Griffin. He played only 11 minutes, all in the first half, after taking a blow across the nose. He finished with two points and three rebounds. An MRI taken on Sunday was clear and he reportedly was feeling better, but he’s still questionable for Monday. Needless to say, Griffin's status will affect the line significantly.

Griffin played just five minutes in the Sooners' lone game with KU last season because of a knee injury. The Jayhawks won 85-55.

Tips and Trends

#7 Louisville at Georgetown

Louisville (-1, O/U 133): The Cardinals are still in the mix for the top seed in the Big East tournament thanks to three straight wins following a home loss to #1 UConn. The Huskies have since lost to Pittsburgh, creating a logjam with four teams each losing twice in conference play. Louisville has won its last three against DePaul, Providence and Cincinnati by an average of 24 points. The closest of those games came on Saturday when the Cards beat the Bearcats, 72-63. “I think our passing has gotten better,” Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said. “We made some excellent passes. We executed great against their full-court pressure. We just played a terrific game.”

Louisville is 23-7-1 ATS in its last 31 road games.
The UNDER is 7-1 in Louisville's last 8 Monday games.

Key Injuries - G Reginald Delk (ankle) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 65

Georgetown: This is a must-win for the Hoyas, who still have hopes of getting into the NCAA tournament with a strong finish. The problem is, they just can't seem to get over the hump. Georgetown had come through with a 65-40 rout of South Florida to seemingly end a skid of seven losses in eight games. But Marquette completed a season series sweep of the Hoyas on Saturday with a 78-72 road win. “We’ll get through this," Georgetown head coach John Thompson III said. "Yeah, it’s trying. But we’re going to do what we do. We’re going to try to get better from the top on down.”

Georgetown is 1-8 ATS in its last 9 games overall.
The UNDER is 10-1 in Georgetown's last 11 Monday games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 68 (Side Play of the Day)

#18 Kansas at #2 Oklahoma

Kansas: The Jayhawks could very well be the hottest team in the Big 12, winning 10 of their last 11 games. Their only loss during that stretch was came on the road to a Missouri team that has also won 10 of 11. The defending national champs could have a big advantage if Oklahoma's Blake Griffin doesn't play since center Cole Aldrich is averaging 20.3 points in the last three games. “It helps to have an inside presence, and we have one of the best inside presences in the country,” Kansas guard Sherron Collins said. “He’s good. We’ve got to feed him. Early in the season, we weren’t feeding him enough. When we do, that takes pressure off all of us.”

Kansas is 14-3-1 ATS in its last 18 games vs. big 12.
The UNDER is 7-1 in Kansas' last 8 games overall.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 67

Oklahoma (-3): The status of All-American Blake Griffin probably will not be known until near tip-off, and the Sooners are not going to risk his future right now after he suffered a concussion in the first half of a 73-68 loss at Texas on Saturday. “The most important thing is him and his future. You don’t want to do anything to risk any further damage, so that’s the most important thing,” Capel said before practice Sunday. “We’re going to proceed with caution with this and make sure he’s OK. And we’ll move on whichever way we have to, with him or without.”

Oklahoma is 0-4 SU in the last 4 meetings.
The OVER is 10-1 in Oklahoma's last 11 home games.

Key Injuries - F Blake Griffin (concussion) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 70

National player of the year candidate still recovering from Saturday's concussion.

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma men's basketball head coach Jeff Capel announced this afternoon that sophomore forward Blake Griffin will miss tonight's game against Kansas.

After visiting with OU's medical staff early this afternoon, Capel said that Griffin, who leads the Big 12 in scoring and leads the nation in rebounding, is still recovering from a concussion sustained in Saturday's game at Texas. Griffin's return to action is not known.

Griffin is averaging 22.0 points and 13.8 rebounds while shooting a Big 12-best .632 from the field. He also leads the country with 22 double-doubles.

The 6-10, 251-pounder from Oklahoma City played just 11 minutes Saturday at Texas.

Tonight's matchup in Norman will give the winner sole possession of first place in the Big 12 race with three games remaining in the regular season. OU is 25-2 overall, 11-1 in conference play and is ranked No. 3 in both major polls. Kansas is 22-5, 11-1 and ranked 15th in both polls.
