Thursday's Tip Sheet
By Brian Edwards

Bettors have games galore to feast on Thursday night. Bubble teams like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and St. Mary’s are in dire need of victories. Let’s take a look at several for the televised tilts.

**Duke at St. John’s**

--This might be just what the doctor ordered for Duke, which has suddenly lost four of its last six games and has looked soft as a pillow in doing so. By this, I mean a trip to Madison Square Garden, where the Blue Devils have won nine of their last 10 games.

--Duke (20-5 straight up, 11-12-1 against the spread) appears to be on the same path it has taken over the two previous seasons, which is to say the Blue Devils are fading fast. Since 2007, the Dookies have only been a .500 team in February and March, going 16-16 SU.

--St. John’s (12-13 SU, 7-11-1 ATS) has lost four in a row, going 1-3 ATS during that slide. However, the Red Storm took the cash in their last outing, a 73-59 loss at Marquette as 16-point underdogs.

--Duke has failed to cover the number in four straight games, including Sunday’s 80-74 loss at Boston College as a 7 ½-point road favorite. Kyle Singler had 25 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots in the losing effort. Gerald Henderson, who averages 15.4 points per game, finished with 20 points and four steals.

--The ‘under’ has cashed in eight consecutive head-to-head meetings between St. John’s and Duke.

--The ‘under’ is 15-8 overall for the Blue Devils.

--The ‘under’ is on a 5-1-1 run for St. John’s and is 10-8-1 overall, 6-2 in its home assignments.

--Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened Duke as an 11-point ‘chalk’ with a total of 138.

--The Blue Devils are 9-6 ATS as double-digit favorites, while St. John’s owns a 2-4 spread record as a double-digit underdog.

--Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

**Wisconsin at Indiana**

--LVSC opened Wisconsin (16-9 SU, 10-12-1 ATS) as a 10-point favorite with a total of 121.

--Bo Ryan’s team has never missed the NCAA Tournament during his seven-year tenure in Madison. The Badgers appeared to be in serious trouble after losing six straight games, but they have responded with four consecutive wins, compiling a 3-1 spread record in the process. They are now 7-6 in Big Ten play and very much back in the picture to possibly receive an at-large invite to the Big Dance.

--Wisconsin captured a 55-50 win Saturday over Ohio St., although it failed to hook up its backers as six-point home favorites. Marcus Landry scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the winners.

--Indiana (6-18 SU, 9-9 ATS) is 5-7 SU and 5-4 ATS in home games at Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers have lost 11 of 12 Big Ten games just one year after former head coach Kelvin Sampson left the program shattered due to NCAA violations committed on his watch.

--Tom Crean’s squad is looking bounce back from Sunday’s 65-52 home loss to Illinois as a 10 ½-point underdog. Matt Roth was the only IU player in double figures with 13 points.

--The ‘over’ is 12-10-1 overall for the Badgers. Meanwhile, the ‘under’ is 10-8 overall for IU, 5-4 in its home games.

--ESPN will provide television coverage at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

**Rutgers at Villanova**

--LVSC opened Villanova (20-5 SU, 13-8 ATS) as an 18-point favorite with a total of 137.

--Villanova saw its six-game winning streak snapped Friday when it went into Morgantown and got clobbered. The Mountaineers cruised to a 93-72 triumph as 4 ½-point home favorites.

--Rutgers (10-15 SU, 9-7 ATS) is going through another abysmal campaign, but the Scarlet Knights have been money makers recently. They have taken the cash in four of their last five games.

--RU has been an especially lucrative team to wager on when listed as a double-digit underdog. In five such situations, the Scarlet Knights have compiled a 4-1 spread record.

--Jay Wright’s club owns a 12-1 SU record and a 6-3 ATS mark at home this year.

--The ‘under’ is 11-10 overall for the Wildcats, 6-3 in their home outings. With that said, the ‘over’ has cashed in four consecutive ‘Nova games and seven of its last nine (regardless of venue).

--RU has seen the ‘under’ cash in each of its last six games.

--The ‘over’ has hit in five straight head-to-head meetings between these long-time Big East adversaries.

--ESPN2 will have the telecast at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

Thursday Research
By Indiancowboy

CBB: Big 10:

Minnesota vs. Michigan

Minnesota comes off a 5 point loss to Penn State on the road. The Gophers are now 7-6 in conference play and face a Michigan team who they have not faced this year and will face again on March 7th. This team has beat Iowa, Wisconsin on the road in OT and Indiana on the highway. They have also lost to Michigan State, Ohio State and Northwestern on the road. I mention that to state that Minnesota is a toss up in many ways when they go on the road. Michigan to their credit come off a huge win against NW on the road in OT and can use this game to go .500 in conference play. Sure, it would be nice to take the home team in the Big10, but with Minnesota coming off a loss, Tubby will have his team ready to play here. This is why I believe you see a short line - Michigan also comes off a big road conference win so they could be in for a let down.

Wiscosin vs. Indiana

This line is not surprising given that Indiana just lost to Illinois by 13. That was a game frankly that Indiana should have covered given that if they shot anything better than 55% from the line which was pathetic as several of these kids are walk-ons and non-scholarship players - so one woud think they made the team at least b/c they can make some free throws. Either way, Indiana does have some bite as they pulled to within 6 at one point against Illinois. These two teams meet for the first time this year and then will meet again on March 7th. If you want to take some tums you can - a small lean on Indiana here but Wisconsin has showed some drastic improvement as they are now 7-6 in conference play - winning 4 straight including over Illinois at home, Penn State on the road, Iowa and Ohio State at home.

CBB: Atlantic 10:

Xavier vs. Charlotte

Xavier is favored by well over 70% of the public after its big win over Fordham at home. After all, what would you expect after they had lost back to back conference games on the road. This team still manages to sit at #17 in the country however. These two teams met earlier this year and Xavier won by 18 points, in a low-scoring contest. Charlotte does have some bite as they beat Dayton by 13 at home, but at 3-7 in conference play and Xavier wanting to prove they can win on the road after 2 straight road losses, I'm likely just staying away as Charlotte has revenge that works in their favor as well.

St. Bonny vs. George Washington

GW comes off a 18 point loss to Charlotte on the road. They are a team ranked outside the top 200. Note, that these two teams have not met this year, GW won by 9 last year on the road, and in fact, GW has won the last 5 times these two teams have met over the last 5 years and St. Bonny has not beaten this team since 2003. I think St. Bonny is a slightly better team and did have the talent to win 4 conference games thus far and even defeat Richmond on the road. They do come off a big win against Umass, so maybe a let down, but still a lean on St. Bonny.

Colonial Athletic, Ivy League, Metro Atlantic: No games.

CBB: Southern:

Western Carolina vs. Elon

Elon lost to this team by 7 points earlier this year, is a bit of an unpredicable team, but did have the chops to beat Chattanooga in double OT, has some revenge, defeated Southern and Charleston on the road, so I think this is a game they can certainly win SU. Western Carolina is 2-9 on the road and just 1-6 in conference play, so I think Elon is in a decent spot given that they come off back to back tough road losses and return home to face a Western Carolina team that they were competitive against earlier this year.

#9 Duke at St. John's

Duke (-12, O/U 135): The Blue Devils have dropped four of their last six games and will be looking to beat St. John's for the sixth time in as many meetings. Duke is coming off a surprising 80-74 loss to unranked Boston College on Sunday and hopes to avoid losing three straight games for the first time in nearly two years. “We’re not playing very well on the defensive end of the court,” Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “And this is from a team that has been playing for the whole year really well defensively.”

Duke is 2-7-1 ATS in its last 10 games vs. Big East.
The UNDER is 7-1 in Duke's last 8 games vs. Big East.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 73

St. John's: The Red Storm has lost four in a row, averaging just 55.7 points and shooting 35.4 percent from the field during that stretch. They are assured of finishing with a losing record in the Big East for the seventh straight year, and head coach Norm Roberts could be out at the end of the season. “We learn every game and just take it from there,” St. John’s swingman Paris Horne said. “We’re going to get it together. It is just a matter of learning. As long as we stick together and never get down on ourselves and pick each other up game-by-game, we will be a lot better.”

St. John's is 0-8 ATS in its last 8 games vs. ACC.
The UNDER is 8-0 in the last 8 meetings.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 61

Wisconsin at Indiana

Wisconsin (-9.5, O/U 123.5): The Badgers bring a four-game winning streak into Bloomington after losing six straight games and have gone back to basics led by strong defense. They have not allowed more than 52 points in any game during the winning streak and had surrendered 60 or more in every game during their skid. “If you’re in a batting slump, bunt," Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan said. "Have a better eye. Walk more. It doesn’t change. You just have to find some things to go to.”

Wisconsin is 13-6-1 ATS in its last 20 road games.
The UNDER is 3-1 in Wisconsin's last 4 games overall.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 61 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

Indiana: The Hoosiers will get leading scorer Devan Dumes (13.8 points per game) back after missing the last two games due to a suspension for flagrant fouls he committed against Michigan State. Indiana head coach Tom Crean said “we have covered the ground that we need to cover and it’s time to move forward” and realizes his team needs Dumes to stay competitive down the stretch. The Hoosiers have already set a record for most losses in a season.

Indiana is 9-2 ATS in its last 11 Thursday games.
The UNDER is 3-0 in Indiana's last 3 games overall.

Key Injuries - G Devan Dumes (suspension) is probable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 52
