Pelicans vs. Rockets

The Rockets host the Pelicans on Saturday night, and these are two of the league's hottest teams. They each rank among the highest scoring teams in the NBA, but I think there are several reasons to believe that they both fall short of their season averages here tonight. For the Pelicans, they are coming off a brief rest after playing a rare back-to-back-to-back, which makes this the fourth game in five nights. The Rockets on the other hand are looking at resting players, as they have a comfortable lead at the top of the Western Conference standings. Houston is four games clear of the Warriors, and Golden State is decimated by injuries to both Curry and Durant. These two teams have a history of falling short of the total, going under in six of the last eight meetings. They have failed to reach the total in four of the last five in Houston, and the under is 6-1 in the Rockets last seven home games. The Rockets have scored an average of 113.5 points per game this season, but have failed to score that many points in seven of their last nine overall. The Pelicans have given up 111 points per game this season, but have allowed less than that in five of their last six overall.

Lightning vs. Devils

In our opinion, Tampa Bay is the best team in the NHL. The Bolts have rebounded from a vapor lock where they lost B2B games to Boston and Ottawa to win three straight games. The Lightning are 5-3 L8 in the series but have lost both games to the Devils this year. Tampa Bay is 9-1 this year avenging a home loss (4-3 in Tampa Feb 17th) and are tied with Nashville for the Presidents Trophy (most points, best record) with the Preds having a game in hand. A minor point but all small reasons that add up into one big reason to expect Tampa Bay to bring its A game here.

My free play is in the NBA tonight, as I like the Houston Rockets over the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Houston Rockets just ended the Portland Trail Blazers' 13-game win streak this past week, then made their way through an overtime win over the Detroit Pistons.
Coach Mike D'Antoni is limiting his team's ability right now, knowing it is headed to the postseason as one of the top seeds, but also while trying to keep his team healthy.
The Rockets beat the Pistons without starting guard Chris Paul, who rested his sore hamstring, but also lost key reserve forward Luc Mbah a Moute (knee). Both are expected to sit against the Pelicans, while their status for Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks is also in doubt.
Add in the fact guard and MVP favorite James Harden tweaked his left ankle in the second half against the Pistons, and this team is running dangerously close to the Golden State Warriors for costly injuries.
Rest at this point in the season is critical, and much more important than wins.
Take the road pup, as New Orleans will jump the border and this cover.
