Tuesday's comp play will be the Nuggets and the Mavericks to hold just Under the posted total.
Both teams have been playing them on the "high side" of late, as Denver is on a 12-2 Over run their last 14 games, while host Dallas stands at 8-4 Over the total their last dozen games played. Those Overs trends are reflected in the total the linesmakers have established for this contest, but a closer look into this series reveals all we need to know about why the Under is the play tonight in the Metroplex.
These teams have played their last pair of games - both in the month of January - Under the posted price. The Under is also on a 4-1 run the last 5 times these Western Conference rivals have faced one another.
Series numbers being considered, this total tonight is just a little too large for my liking. I say play the Nuggets and the Mavericks to abandon their recent Over sprees, and look for this one on Tuesday to land Under the total.

I'm recommending a play on the UNDER in Tuesday's TNT showdown between the Pelicans and Clippers. I think we are seeing a bit of an overreaction here with this number given how both of these teams have been racking up the points of late. New Orleans is averaging 126.8 ppg during their current 8-game winning streak, while the Clippers are averaging 120.4 ppg over their last 8 games.
I'm not saying this won't be a high-scoring game, I just don't think it gets into the 240's, which is basically what you would need to cash the over. A big key to a lower-scoring game is just how much this game means to both sides. Both teams are right in the thick of a competitive race for the final 6 spots in the Western Conference. Right now the Jazz are sitting in 10th and are just 4-games back of the Blazers in 3rd. New Orleans is currently 4th, 1-game back of Portland, while LA is 9th, just 3 games back.
Add in this being a nationally televised game on TNT and I think we see both teams locked in on the defensive side of the ball, which I believe will make it hard for them to eclipse this mark. Note that to go over the total these two teams would have to average right around 60 points a quarter.
UNDER is 12-2 in the Clippers last 14 home games off 2 or more consecutive home wins and 21-10-1 in their last 32 home games against a team with a winning road record. UNDER is also 20-8 in the Pelicans last 28 road games against poor defensive teams that are allowing 106 or more points/game. Take the UNDER!

I'll take my chances with OKC as a home dog in Thursday's highly anticipated home showdown with the red-hot Rockets on TNT. Houston comes in having won 15 straight and the public will be all over them here. That win streak nearly came to an end on Saturday, as the Celtics blew a late lead in a 120-123 loss at Houston. I think there's a good chance the Thunder take care of business here at home.
The only meeting between these two teams so far this season was on Christmas Day at OKC, which the Thunder won 112-107 as a 2.5-point favorite. There's no denying that the Rockets are the better team, but we are talking about a 7.5-point swing from the previous line, which speaks volumes to how over-valued Houston is because of their win streak.
Both teams come in well rested having not played since Saturday. Oklahoma City is 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games when playing on 2 days of rest, while the Rockets are a mere 2-6 ATS in their last 8 when playing on 2 days of rest. Thunder are also 41-18-3 ATS in their last 62 home games vs a team that's won more than 60% of their road games. Give me OKC +5!
