Your Wednesday freebie is the Duke Blue Devils minus the double-digits back at home over Virginia Tech.

The Hokies just upended # 1 Virginia back on the 10th, 61-60 in overtime, as Buzz Williams' team has now won their last pair and 5 of 6 overall straight up and against the spread. Tech also upset Duke the last time these ACC teams faced one another. That win did come in Blacksburg back in December of 2016. The Hokies last visit to Durham was a little different, as they lost 82-58 as Cameron Indoor as the +18 point dog in January of 2016.

The Blue Devils did snap a 2-game losing skid (both on the conference road) with a road win and cover at Georgia Tech this past Sunday, and they really need to take care of business back on their home court where they are 11-1 straight up for the season.

It is tempting to back the talented Gobblers plus the double-digits, especially after their upset win over Virginia, but the oddsmakers look to be setting the proverbial "trap" to me in this spot, and I am not going to fall into it.

Lay the points with the Blue Devils at home on Wednesday.

2* DUKE

Mustangs still smarting from the licking they absorbed on Sunday at home against the Bearcats of Cincinnati, 76-51! For SMU it was their third straight loss, but only their second loss at Moody Coliseum in 15 games this year.

Expect SMU to get the taste of that home loss - in fact those 3 straight losses - out of their system in a big way against their favorite conference whipping boy, the Memphis Tigers.

The Tigers are also losers of their last 3 games, and 5 of their last 6 overall, and that is against the spread as well. Not only that, bu Memphis is a woeful 3-15 against the spread the last 18 played head-to-head, including 6 straight losses to the Ponies. The last time these teams met, SMU roughed up Memphis, 103-62. In fact the last 4 times these teams have played in Dallas, the Mustangs have won outright by more than 25.5 points on average.

Both teams are struggling to say the least, but with the series trends so heavily tilted in favor of the Mustangs, I have to ride them minus the points to put another hurting on the Tigers.

3* SMU

NCAA-B | St. John's vs DePaul
Play on: St. John's -1 -105 at betonline

Jack’s Free Pick Wednesday: St. John’s -1

The St. John’s Red Storm had some tough luck in their 0-11 start in conference play with mostly close losses along the way. But they have dug deep and put together a tremendous three-game stretch and have a new outlook here down the stretch.

Indeed, the Red Storm started with an 81-77 upset home win over Duke as 11-point underdogs. Then they went on the road and beat Villanova 79-75 as 16-point underdogs. They avoided a letdown last time out with an 86-78 home win over Marquette. Now they’ll be out for revenge from a 74-91 home loss to DePaul in their first meeting this season.

I think this is a letdown spot for the Blue Demons. They are coming off a shocking 80-63 upset road win at Providence as 7-point underdogs. The Fryers were clearly looking ahead to their huge showdown with Villanova tonight and not paying any attention to DePaul in that game. This is still a terrible Blue Demons team with zero home-court advantage.

The Blue Demons have gone 1-7 SU in their last eight home games with their only win coming against Miami Ohio. DePaul is 3-12 ATS in home games off an ATS win over the last two seasons. The Blue Demons are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games following a SU win. Bet St. John’s Wednesday.

NBA | Kings vs Rockets
Play on: Rockets -14½ -100 at pinnacle

Free Pick on Rockets -

I'm recommending laying the points with the Rockets at home against the Kings on Wednesday. This is the final game before the All-Star break for both teams. Both are also in the second game of a back-to-back after playing Tuesday. Each won their game last night with the Kings going on the road and beating the Mavs 114-109, while Houston hit 10 3-pointers and put up 42 on the road at Minnesota to pull away 126-108.

The Rockets have now won 9 straight and I think we see them motivated here to go into the break on a 10-game run, especially with how they won that game last night against the Timberwolves. I think the Kings are more interested in getting to their vacation plans than playing this game. Keep in mind this is a team that's not just playing in the second game of a back-to-back, but also their 3rd straight on the road in just 4 days.

Sacramento is just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 off a SU win and are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 vs a team that's won more than 60% of their games. Take Houston!

NCAA-B | Kansas State vs Oklahoma State
Play on: Oklahoma State -3½ -117 at betonline

I will take the Cowboys here at home as they are coming off another big road win beating Oklahoma St. Now I know after their previous big road win over Kansas they laid an egg at home. Well now they have played themselves into the conversation at least because of their road wins and cant afford any let downs. They only by 4 to Kansas St in the first meeting. I also don't like what I have seen from the Wildcats failing to get up for big games like Texas Tech and Kansas.

NCAA-B | Clemson vs Florida State
Play on: Clemson +4½ -105 at 5Dimes

Play - Clemson (Game 741).

Edges - Tigers: 17-4 ATS with revenge in this series, including 9-0 ATS as a dog of 2 or more points… Seminoles: 1-4-1 ATS after facing Notre Dame and 0-5-1 ATS before facing Pittsburgh. With that, we recommend a 1* play on Clemson. Thank you and good luck as always.

NCAA-B | Seton Hall vs Xavier
Play on: Xavier -4½ -109 at 5Dimes

I'm recommending a play on Xavier minus the points on Wednesday. Xavier has its eyes on the Big East regular season title and has won eight in a row and the Musketeers are 18-8 ATS on the season. Seton Hall has lost three straight and hasn't been a good team all season against the number with an 11-14 ATS record and the Pirates appear to fading fast. The Pirates need to turn things around quickly, especially on the defensive end, but that will be difficult on the road against one of the best teams in the country. Xavier shoots 50 percent at home and allows only 39.8 percent. The Musketeers are led by the trio of Trevon Bluiett (18.9 points per game), J.P. Macura (12.2 ppg) and Kerem Kanter (10.8 ppg). Xavier already has beaten the Pirates by nine points in the first meeting on the road and the Musketeers have covered 11 of their last 16 home contests. We're recommending a play on Xavier minus the points on Wednesday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

NBA | Pacers vs Nets
Play on: Pacers -4 -105 at 5Dimes

Take Indiana (#707)

Very quietly, waaaaaaay underneath the radar, the Indiana Pacers are playing their best basketball of the season heading into the All Star Break. Indiana has won their last two, including an impressive road win at Boston. They’ve won seven of their last ten overall; 13-6 in their last 19 contests; a stretch that includes SU road wins at Utah, San Antonio and Phoenix as well as that win against the Celtics.

There were some initial concerns about the chemistry between players and management after Indiana stood pat at the trading deadline, unable to give the team a boost in their push towards the playoffs. Quotes like this one from Thaddeus Young make it VERY clear that any chemistry concerns are vastly overblown:

"We were just excited they decided to keep this thing together and let us keep getting better. Right after the game (vs. the Knicks on Sunday), (GM Chad Buchanon) texted us and said, 'Great win. But it's not over. We still have one game before the All-Star break,' and we all responded right then and there. It's like I said, this is one of the most unified teams I've ever been a part of."

The Nets have had a hard time from the get-go of late, routinely falling into early deficits. They’ve lost ten of their last eleven, including four consecutive defeats by double digits at home in Brooklyn. The Nets lost by a dozen when they faced Indiana at home earlier in the season. A similar margin tonight would be no surprise for this bettor! Take the Pacers.

NHL | Canadiens vs Avalanche
Play on: Avalanche -116 at betonline

Colorado Avalanche -116

The Avalanche price here at home is worth a flyer.

Colorado has been one of the most surprising teams in the NHL this season and when playing at home, they have been extremely dominant.

The Avs are 19-7-1-0 at home, while putting in 3.63 goals per game when playing in front of the home crowd.

This is a nice matchup for them as they take on a Canadiens team that just simply hasn't been able to figure anything out this season. They've struggled on both sides of the puck and have had zero consistency.

Some trends to note. Canadiens are 1-7 in their last 8 Wednesday games. Canadiens are 1-8 in their last 9 road games.

Grab the home side.

Back Colorado.

Good Luck, Razor Ray.
