Report: Rockets dismiss coach Van Gundy
FOXSports.com

Jeff Van Gundy has been dismissed as Rockets head coach, the Houston Chronicle reported on its Web site Friday.

The move comes less than two weeks after the Rockets were ousted in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, a seven-game loss to the Utah Jazz.

Van Gundy made it clear about a week ago that, though no decision on his future had been made, he preferred to stay with the organization.

"I love the team, I like the organization a lot, I've been treated extremely well here," Van Gundy said May 7. "I have zero complaints."

The Rockets have been trolling around already for a new coach. Rick Adelman has begun an "extensive interview process" with the team, the report said.

Van Gundy is 430-318 in 11 seasons as a coach and 182-146 in four seasons with the Rockets. He has a 44-44 postseason record.

"This is a result-oriented business," Van Gundy said after the Rockets' early playoff exit. "I have to take responsibility. Those four home playoff losses — I'm not saying you're going to win them all. But if you're management, you have to look at that, certainly."

General manager Daryl Morey offered Van Gundy another position with the team on Thursday, according to the report, but the Van Gundy has turned it down.
