3-Unit Play Take LA Lakers/Denver UNDER 212

This is one of the most crucial games of the series and we expect both teams to up the defensive intensity tonight. Both meetings in the playoffs have gone under the posted total as have eight of the last nine meetings overall. The public is still betting the over in this series and we love to go against the public, obviously, and side with the bookies. We thought this number would be a bit lower but the bookies decided to not adjust it and still more than 60% of the public is on the over. The Lakers were one of the top defensive teams in the league down the stretch and they have been solid in the playoffs. There were a lot of fouls called and free throws shot in Game 2 and the total still did not go over. The Lakers have been one of the strongest under teams down the stretch and in the playoffs and 27 of their last 38 games have gone under. That is a combination of public misconception about their defensive abilities and the fact that the public generally loves the over when this team is involved.

STEPHEN NOVER

PICK: Texas Rangers

Texas' Scott Feldman is an underrated pitcher who the marketplace hasn't caught up with yet. Feldman has a 2.03 ERA in his last five starts, giving up just 19 hits in 31 innings. He's walked only seven and hasn't allowed a home run.He has a major league-best 0.84 ratio. Yes that's even better than Zack Greinke's 0.91 ratio. Feldman is pitching above his head. Still, he has a lot of confidence right now with a greatly improved defense behind him. The Rangers also have back from the DL closer Frank Fancisco, who hasn't allowed an earned run this season. He pitched last night, but threw just 16 pitches so he should be available if needed. The Rangers also have back star outfielder Josh Hamilton.Making this matchup so attractive is Houston's pitching situation. The Astros are going with Brian Moehler, one of the worst pitchers in the National League. The Astros are also below average defensively and their bullpen is in shambles. Their bullpen has a 5.79 ERA in the last three games.Closer Jose Valverde is on the DL along with fellow relievers Doug Brocail and Geoff Geary. That basically leaves Chris Sampson and new closer LaTroy Hawkins. Both, though, have serious fatigue issues.Sampson has pitched in three straight games. Hawkins has thrown 41 pitches the past two nights. The Astros are in a lot of trouble in this matchup.

This is a two-unit play for me.

PICK: Los Angeles Angels

John Lackey is getting back into rhythm and faces a Dodgers squad that he has dominated.Lackey is 5-1 with a 1.15 ERA in eight appearances versus Los Angeles.Randy Wolf is quietly having an excellent season, but has been pitching above his head. The Dodgers are a major-league worst 20-44 in Interleague play since 2005.

This is a one-unit play for me.
