3-Unit Play. Take Boston (-1.5, +105) over N.Y. Mets

The Mets stole another Game 1 on Friday night but I think it’s back to reality today. Without Jose Reyes at the top and Carlos Delgado in the middle this lineup is going to be very inconsistent. The Red Sox have been baseball’s best home team over the last five years and after dumping Game 1 I think they come back strong and make the Mets pay in Game 2. Mike Pelfrey has been erratic. And I think that this game gets into the bullpens and that the Mets’ middle relief gets knocked around.

1-Unit Play. Take Tampa Bay (-135) over Florida

The Marlins are pretty much a mess from that four-games-in-three-nights series with Arizona. You could see it on their faces yesterday. The Rays are jerks. They really are. This team only shows up to play when they feel like it and they will definitely kick a team while they are down. They want to dominate the Sunshine Series and right now there isn’t much that the Marlins can do to stop them. Florida is trotting out some random lefty and the Rays are No. 8 in the league against southpaws. We’re backing the far superior American League team here.

1-Unit Play. Take Detroit (-140) over Colorado

Colorado is just bad on the road and terrible on the road in Interleague Play. Jason Marquis is coming off a great outing – against light-hitting Atlanta. In his last three starts after giving up just one run he has surrendered 5, 7 and 9 in his next start. The Tigers are hot and we’re just going to go to the well with them today and see if they can keep it rolling.

1-Unit Play. Take Texas (-115) over Houston

Right now the only team that can beat the Rangers is the Tigers. And since Texas isn’t in Detroit any more we’re going to go right back to them. This team is just playing strong baseball right now. And I think that the momentum of last night’s game will carry over. The Rangers dominated Game 1, more so than the final score suggested, and I think they get all over Brian Moehler today.

1-Unit Play. Take N.Y. Yankees (-160) over Philadelphia

This play falls a bit in line with our play on the Red Sox. The Yankees have been hot and they are just too good at home to get swept by a National League team. The Yankees have been one of the best teams in the Majors this year against left-handed pitching and now the Phillies are trotting out J.A. Happ. I love fading spot starters. Especially when they are starting on the road against a team that kills lefties and is coming off a loss.

Premium picks from Jimmy Boyd

MLB Baseball Premium Picks
MLB | May 23 '09 (7:10p)
Cleveland Indians vs Cincinnati Reds Cincinnati Reds
-105 at bodog
4* Major MLB Interleague GOTW on Reds -105
The Reds took Game 1 3-1 to improve to 5-0 in their last 5 home games against the Indians and 7-1 in their last 8 games against Cleveland overall. The Indians are 2-9 in their last 11 interleague road games, 3-13 in their last 16 during game 2 of a series, 1-6 in their last 7 games as a road favorite, and 1-8 in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Reds are 5-1 in their last 6 during game 2 of a series and 4-1 in their last 5 interleague home games vs. a left-handed starter. Cincy is 17-4 against the money line at home when the total is 11 to 11.5 since 1997. I'll back the Reds in this slugfest.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Denver Nuggets Los Angeles Lakers
+4-115 at bodog
5* 2009 NBA Playoffs Game of the Year (ABC) on Lakers +4
First off, the Lakers are one of the finest road teams in the NBA at 31-15 this season. Secondly, each time LA has lost in these playoffs, it has responded with a convincing double digit win. In fact, the Lakers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU loss. Thirdly, anytime you can get LA catching points, it is worth strong consideration, especially in a bounce back spot. The Lakers are 21-8-2 ATS in their last 31 games as an underdog and 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games as an underdog of 4.5 or less points. Plus, LA is 17-6 ATS in road games versus explosive offensive teams - scoring 103+ points/game in the 2nd half of the season over the last 3 seasons. There's no question the books have overvalued the Nuggets here as the public is jumping on their bandwagon. The Nuggets are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite of 4.5 or less. The Lakers are 41-14 SU against Denver since 1996 and 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings. Pound LA tonight as they win this one outright!

Scott Spreitzer

25* NBA **TOTAL** DOMINATOR! *1st of the Postseason!

I'm playing the Over between the Lakers and Nuggets on Saturday night. Denver needs to play uptempo basketball if they wish to hand the Lakers another loss. The Nuggets have no trouble picking up the pace in Denver, and the Lakers will follow suit. Denver has averaged 113 ppg in six home playoff tilts, and I expect more of the same tonight. The difference between this one and their first-round homers against New Orleans, is that the Lakers will trade points all night long. Denver is 31-19 to the Over this season when playing on one day of rest, which is obviously the case tonight. Two talented and athletic teams will go at it at an intense pace, and I believe we'll see this one sail Over the posted total.
