25 Dime –

OHIO

Take Ohio for the home win over George Mason.

Normally I don’t look at how other teams fared against an opponent to get an opinion on a game, but I couldn’t help it in this case.

George Mason’s Will Thomas is a defensive liability in the paint and when the Patriots struggle it’s when they play teams that have strong inside games.

Ohio has just that as their two leading scorers, Leon Williams and Jerome Tillman, are both forwards.

UNC-Wilmington, a team that also boasts two double-digit scoring forwards, has beaten George Mason twice, so that’s why I’m liking Ohio so much here this afternoon.

Ohio is 10-0 on its home court this year, so they know how to get it done in front of the partisan crowd.

Take Ohio for the win.

15 Dime –

MICHIGAN STATE

Take Michigan State as the big home chalk for the win and cover.

Huge payback game for the Spartans as they look to atone for their ugly 43-36 loss at Iowa on January 12.

That game snapped the Spartans 11-game winning streak and was their lowest scoring output since 1952.

Iowa scores only 56 points per game, which is the lowest in the Big 10, and I don’t see them scoring enough to hang within the number this afternoon.

Michigan State is holding opponents to a mere 60 ppg at East Lansing, so Iowa is going to have to work as hard as they possibly can for points today, leaving them without much energy to defend on the other end.

Take the Spartans as the big home chalk as they grab the home win and cover.

10 Dime –

CINCINNATI

Take the points with Cincinnati this afternoon over Georgetown.

At first glance this appears to be a mismatch that heavily favors the Hoyas, but Cincinnati is no pushover and will give the Hoyas everything they got today.

Georgetown may have the lofty ranking, but they haven’t impressed me all that much in they’re not scoring any huge blowout wins. They’re just 1-5 ATS as a chalk in Big East play this year.

Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin vowed revenge against all the teams the Bearcats lost to last year, and so far it’s been paying dividends as they’ve showed steady progress. John Williamson and Deonta Vaughn form a nice inside-out scoring tandem for the Bearcats, which will keep Georgetown from doubling up on either one of them.

The Bearcats are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine road games.

Take the points with Cincinnati as they stay within the number at Georgetown.

Saturday Daytime College Opinion
TEMPLE (-9) over Fordham

Fordham covered at St. Louis on Wednesday but the Rams are still just 17-36-2 ATS as an underdog of more than 2 points away from home under coach Dereck Whittenburg. Fordham is good in that role off consecutive losses (9-4-2 ATS), but the Rams are only 8-32 ATS as a road or neutral dog of more than 2 points when not off consecutive losses, including 1-5 ATS this season. Temple is 10-3 ATS in conference home games under coach Fran Dunphy, including 5-0 ATS this season. My ratings favor Temple by 9 points and I’ll lean with the Owls at -9 or less based on the teams trends.

Philadelphia 76ers (24-32) at Miami Heat (9-44)

The 76ers are a poor road team, just 9-18 this season and have just one win in their last 7 games in Miami, Even so, Philadelphia should be able to notch a road victory against the collapse Heat. Miami has lost 10 straight, 25 of its last 26 games and is a ghastly 5-21 at home this season. Take Philadelphia for their fifth straight win over Miami. The 76ers are 5-1 both straight-up and against the spread in its last 6 clashes versus Miami

Philadelphia 76ers + 2

New Mexico Lobos + 3
Northern Arizona Lumberjacks - 2.5
Texas Longhorns - 9
Tennessee Volunteers + 6

4 Unit Play. #758 Take Washington -4 over Arizona State
The Huskies have really shown me something of late having won three out of their last four games including two against likely tournament teams in Arizona and UCLA. ASU has yet to get back on track after a hot start and they have lost seven of their last nine and will have no answer for Jon Brockman inside the paint.

4 Unit Play. #764 Take Michigan +1 ½ over Illinois
This line kinda surprises me and if you throw out Illinois performance Minnesota this squad has lost five straight games. That was a fluke and this squad lost their next two games after that amazing performance. This is a veteran team that has quite on Coach Weber and that does not bode well for the rest of the season. Michigan has won three out of their last four games and will take care of business again on Saturday as they are starting to learn the new coaches system.

4 Unit Play. #778 Take Florida Atlantic -1 ½ over Mid Tennessee State
The Owls have yet to lose to the Raiders ever and that streak will remain alive on Saturday night. MTS is coming off a victory over Denver but that was a low scoring game and it will be tough for them to adjust to an up-tempo style. This game will be in the seventies and that will allow the Owls to earn the victory.

4 Unit Play. #788 Take Tulane -2 ½ over Southern Miss
This is more a play against the Golden Eagles, who are just 1-9 when playing on the road. This is an important game for both, as the winner will jump in the standing and improve their seed for the upcoming Conference USA Tournament and thus have a better chance of getting blown out by Memphis. David Gomez will go for 20+ point again giving his squad the edge.

4 Unit Play. #794 Take Baylor -1 ½ over Kansas State
Yes this may be a chance bet, but Baylor has too much talent to continue to lose games @ the Ferrell Center. They are out of the tournament as it stands now and must play their way back into it. K-State has an all-everything player in Michael Beasley, but he cannot win this game alone and Baylor has the better balanced squad. The Wildcats have lost three straight road games and if Baylor can get off to a good start for a chance, they will win this game with ease.

Bracket Buster Games

4 Unit Play. #826 Take Northern Arizona -3 over Wichita State
The Shockers play in a much more difficult conference but have been the most disappointing team in the MVC this season. Their conference record is 3-13 and they are just 2-8 when playing on the road. The Lumberjacks can still light up the scoreboard @ the Skydome and this is an important game for the Big Sky to shown they belong with some of the top mid major conferences in the land.

4 Unit Play. #853 Take Drake +5 over Butler
This line really surprises me, as Butler has not been blowout out very many teams in the Horizon and now must face the best the MVC has to offer. The Bulldogs last two victories came by just five points each game and Drake continues to be undervalued night in and night out. Drake has won the last two meetings between the programs and you can expect more of the same on Saturday and this will be low scoring and go right down to the wire and getting two field goals makes this the only side to consider. The Bulldogs will have no answer for Josh Young and his assistants.

5 Unit Play. #876 Take Green Bay +1 ½ over Western Michigan
Bracket Buster Game of the Year. Again the wrong team is favored, as the Horizon is a better conference then the MAC according to the RPI rankings. The Phoenix have been terrible on the road, but this one comes @ Resch Center, as place where they have won 75% of their games this season. They also have great balance, as all five starters had at least 8 points in their last game including four who reached double-digits. The MAC West is a terrible conference as only one team sits over .500 and that means that the Broncos have not been challenged to much during conference play. They are just 4-8 on road and the Horizon will flex their muscles in this affair.

4 Unit Play. #881 Take Hawaii -4 over UC-Riverside
The Big West is TRASH and Riverside is one of the worst teams in that league. Hawaii has been on the island for a couple days and had Fresno State beat before falling apart during the last minute. The Highlanders have been blown out numerous times this season and will be lucky if they can reach the Big West Tournament as the last seed. Hawaii gets a lead on Saturday and keeps it as this is just a play against Riverside one of the worst teams on the face of the earth. The WAC is a much better conference then the Big West and if you handicap according to conference strength you will be much more successful.
