GAMBLERS WORLD TIP OF THE DAY

Xavier (3) vs. UCLA (1)

Prediction: UCLA Bruins

Current Line: -6 Over/Under: 129 Reason: The Xavier Musketeers, OT winners Thursday, will try to knock off the West Region's top seed in the UCLA Bruins Saturday when they meet at US Airways Arena. At stake is a trip to the Final Four. Oddsmakers currently have the Bruins listed as 6-point favorites versus the Musketeers, while the game's total is sitting at 129. Xavier pulled out a hard-fought 79-75 OT victory over West Virginia on Thursday in the NCAA West Regional semifinals. Xavier won the game as 1.5-point underdogs, while the combined score sailed OVER the posted total of 137. Josh Duncan jammed in a game-high 26 points for Xavier, and C.J. Anderson chipped in with 12 in the win. UCLA built up a 21 point lead at halftime on Thursday, but had to hold off a late surge to defeat Western Kentucky 88-78 in the NCAA West Regional semifinals. UCLA failed to cover the 11.5-point spread, but the combined 160 points sailed OVER the posted total of 135. Kevin Love led UCLA with a team-high 29 points from an impressive 10-for-14 shooting from the field. Team records: Xavier: 30-6 SU, 16-15-1 ATS UCLA: 34-3 SU, 21-14-1 ATS Xavier most recently: When playing on Saturday are 5-3 After a win are 8-2 UCLA most recently: When playing on Saturday are 9-1 After a win are 10-0 A few trends to consider: Xavier is 16-2 SU in its last 18 games The total has gone OVER in 5 of Xavier's last 6 games Xavier is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games UCLA is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games UCLA is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games

3-Unit Play. Take Xavier (+6) over UCLA
UCLA may be the better team overall, but they have not been the better team over the last nine days. The Bruins are having serious troubles on the offensive end. And against a very sound, solid defensive team I don’t know if it’s going to get any better for them. The bottom line is that I don’t trust UCLA’s perimeter shooting and they are facing a team that has a host of backcourt weapons. I think Xavier matches up well on the interior with Kevin Love and the UCLA frontcourt and I think the X-Men are more confident in their sets. Xavier has played better and beaten better competition than UCLA in this tournament and No. 1 seeds are just 3-11 ATS in the Elite Eight recently, and 1-5 ATS when matched up against No. 3 seed. Xavier is 12-2 ATS as a neutral site dog and 20-8 ATS as an outright dog.

1.5-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 154.5 Louisville vs. North Carolina

2-Unit Play. Take Xavier +6 over UCLA

When you couple Xavier's strong effort to advance over West Virginia with UCLA's sloppy play against Western Kentucky, it's clear who is playing the more focused and better team ball. And I also think Xavier is every bit as talented as the Bruins. The X-Men can go eight men deep, and have each of their top six scorers average double figures. Drew Lavender works wonderfully to get everyone envolved, while Stanley Burrell is a tremendous defender and he'll be able to frustrate Josh Shipp and get him back to his slump. Xavier is the better three point shooting team, and the fact that six of seven of their regulars can knock it down with consistency makes them an even stronger offensive team. Yep, I have a feeling UCLA's good fortunue has run out, but nonetheless we'll see an Xavier cover in the West Regional Final.
