LARRY NESS

Elon @ Charleston
PICK: Charleston

REASON FOR PICK: The College of Charleston is almost a decade removed from its last NCAA tournament bid. John Kresse famously led the Cougars to four NCAA tourney bids from 1994 through 1999 and the '07 Cougars gave it a try last year, falling to Davidson in the Southern Conference finals. Only Elon stands in Charleston's way for a likely rematch with Davidson (which plays NC-Greensboro in the first game of Sunday's semis) in this year's title game. The Cougars have won four straight to even their record at 16-16, which is a far cry from LY's 22-11 team. However, while this game is not being played on its homecourt, it is being played in Charlseton. That's a nice advantage, when playing an opponent not named Davidson. Elon is just 13-18 this year and has gone about as far as it could have expected. James (12.4-5.4) and Watson (10.9) are a decent guard duo for the Phoenix but the 6-8 Atoyebi (12.4-6.4) figures to be out-manned by the Cougars' forward duo of the 6-7 Johnson (11.3-8.6) and the 6-8 Scott (10.4-6.7). Freshman guard Goudelock (13.4) leads the team in scoring and is paired with sophomore White (13.3) to likely give Charleston an advantage on the perimeter as well. Charleston beat Elon at home 78-65 and then lost 87-86 in two-OTs on the road. Here in their home city, expect the Cougars to come away with a double digit win and get that likely rematch (and loss) with Davidson. Lay the points with Charleston.

Illinois State vs. Drake
Play: Illinois State

The Missouri Valley is one of our my favorite conferences & the lack of depth of the Drake crew cannot win 3 games in a row. The Drake crew uses a 6 man rotation and have absolutely no depth. This is the first and only time this season they will be asked to play 3 in 3 days. The Illinois State crew is is ready to cash. Illinois State knows it needs a huge win to go to the Big Dance and Drake is already in.Illinois State is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games & Illinois State is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games!! Ill State wins this game by 12.
