3-0 Sweep ... 0 -8 SO FAR ;D

20* DAVIDSON - Might not be wise to side against JT-the-third’s group, but there’s something about the Wildcats that is quite intriguing. Perhaps it’s the non-conference competition Davidson has played all season – North Carolina, Duke, UCLA, NC State and then Gonzaga in the first round. Maybe it’s the hot hand of Stephen Curry, and his knack for burying threes, again and again and again … you get the point. Or, maybe it’s just because the ‘Cats have won 23 in a row and don’t appear to be looking back in way shape or form.

Whatever the case, I like the points in this one, as Davidson’s offense could pose problems for the Hoyas, and keep them playing keep up in this one. The Wildcats certainly don’t feel any heat when away from their den, winning 15 of 20 with a suitcase in hand, and covering 14 of the 19 on the highway this year. And when ordering room service, Davidson is outscoring its guests by an average final of 75-64.

The big factor for me is the first-round competition, and because Davidson was forced with playing a team like Gonzaga, and was forced to make a comeback and win it behind an offensive surge, I like its mettle much better than a team that white-washed some school named Maryland-Baltimore County. Grab the points here.

20* BUTLER - If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed when talking about the Butler Bulldogs, it’s consistency with their game – no matter who they play. That’s what makes them so dangerous in this tournament. There really is no adjustment to make, as they continue to play and sway as one unit. It’s probably why this team is sitting at 30-3. The other might be a defensive effort that has held 18 opponents to less than 60 points this season.

Defense has traditionally been a staple in the Butler program – even in 2006, when the Dawgs beat Tennessee in the NIT Season Tip-Off. The make-up of these teams is different, but the style remains the same, and when you mix in that balanced offensive attack that included 15 three-pointers in the first round against South Alabama, you’re asking for trouble.

I expect Butler to force Tennessee into defending all five positions, and that too will be trouble, as the Vols have some question marks with their stop unit. We saw American put a scare into Bruce Pearl’s troops, we should see the Dawgs control the pace here, and aim for the outright when it’s all said and done. Take the points in this one.

20* MEMPHIS - The feisty Bulldogs are something else, but when it’s all said and done, I think you have to give the nod to John Calipari’s bunch, which certainly is the more balanced team. With a staunch defensive effort, the Tigers will create plenty of turnovers and easily will use their athleticism to convert the transitional buckets into points. And once Memphis jumps out to its lead, there’s no stopping the runs it goes on.

Though Missisippi State has won three of its last four on the wood, it’s also dropped the same ratio to the books, with the only cover being against Oregon in the opening round. We can’t discount the 34-1 Tigers, not when they were 14-0 away from Graceland, and the Calipari’s younguns, as they have something to prove in this tournament, and will come away with the solid win and cover to move on to the Sweet 16.
