Mavericks/Celtics OVER 192'

Boston takes a 7-game winning streak into today's contest where they will attempt to improve on an enormous 21-2 overall mark in front of the home fans. Just like a year ago when they went all the way, the Celtics are excelling on the defensive end of the floor which is why they have actually played below the posted spot 7 times in the most recent 9 outings. But all this has done is deflate today's total which opened up at the 194 mark and I am going to take advantage of the value. Visiting Dallas is coming off a road victory Friday where the offense put a huge 112 points on the scoreboard. But in the prior outing the Dallas defense was humiliated as they gave up an incredible 133 points. Here is an 80-PERCENT SYSTEM (36-9 past five years) that applies in games like this where we have a pair of solid offenses averaging between 98 and 102 points per game. This 80% system takes teams like Boston off a very low scoring affair where less than 176 combined points were scored, OVER a posted total that is in the 190's. Since the Celtics are coming off a low scoring 90-80 triumph, that 36-9 system applies in this early nationally televised NBA tilt

Wunderdog - free pick
Game: Depaul at Marquette (2:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Depaul +16.5 (-110)

This is a big rivalry game between these two that goes back a long time. The Golden Eagles are out of the gate at 12-0 at home, but this is a huge number to ask them to cover in a rivalry game, especially with a date at Notre Dame to follow. The Blue Demons are down this season, but not out and have managed to hold seven of their last 10 opponents to 70 points or less, which makes this number take on an even bigger look. While the rivalry will get the DePaul "A" game here, I am not sure the same interest will be held by the Golden Eagles. DePaul hangs inside the number here.

Pregame Total play of the day

Mavs: Dallas rebounded from its worst loss of the season with one of its most impressive wins, defeating Detroit 112-91 on Friday. The Mavs were led by Dirk Nowitzki's 26 points and will need more of the same against Boston. “When they play well, they’re really good,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers told said. “(Nowitzki) makes big shots, he’s a matchup nightmare every night. He still is a great three-point shooter but he’s playing more on the post and in other areas now.”

PROJECTED SCORE: 90 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day) Mavs are 3-1 SU & ATS in their last 4 games overall.

The UNDER is 7-3 in Dallas' last 10 games vs. Eastern Conference.

Celtics (-9, O/U 193): Boston will be going for its eighth straight victory on Sunday and has focused on defense to get the job done lately. The Celtics held Orlando to just 38.2 percent shooting in a 90-80 win on Thursday, snapping the Magic's seven-game winning streak. “Defense is our staple,” Boston leading scorer Paul Pierce said. “All year long, regardless of what the offense does, we’re going to depend on our defense night in and night out.”

PROJECTED SCORE: 99 Celtics are 6-1 ATS during their 7-game winning streak.

The UNDER is 7-2 in Boston's last 9 games overall.

Dave Price

1 Unit on Georgia Tech +13

Clemson's momentum has been cooled with back-to-back losses and that boosts the confidence level of all of its opponents from here on out when playing against the Tigers. Georgia Tech has lost 4 in a row and it has proven how hungry it is for a win by taking NC State and Boston College down to the wire in its last 2 games. Consider that the Jackets only lost to Duke by 14 points. I think they can keep this one within 13 against Clemson. Tech is 24-9 ATS after 3 or more consecutive losses since 1997, winning in these spots by an average of 2.5 ppg, and 13-1 ATS after 4 or more consecutive losses since 1997, winning in these spots by 4.6 ppg. Take Tech!

Phoenix Suns at Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta Hawks have won their last three games and are 17-4 at home this season. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns have lost their last three games and have struggle away from home. The Suns have lost four of its last five on the road, 11-10 straight-up this season, a nasty 7-13 ATS. Making matters worse, Suns’ guard Steve Nash and center Shaquille O’Neal are questionable for tonight’s clash and without them in the lineup could make this battle a very tough undertaking for Phoenix. The Suns are 0-7-1 ATS their last eight contests. Take the Hawks!

Atlanta Hawks -3.5

NCAAB

Michigan St. Spartans -3
Clemson Tigers -12

Utah at DENVER -6'

Yesterday I gave you the Cavaliers as a free winner in Utah, today we take the Nuggets at home against the struggling Jazz. Same report from Saturday night, as the Jazz will be without Carlos Boozer, and could be without Andrei Kirilenko tonight at the Pepsi Center. Utah comes into this one 3-1/2 games behind Denver and one game back of Portland in the Northwest Division. But the key stat is the Jazz’s dismal 1-7 skid in their last eight away from home.

On the other hand, the Nuggets are doing just fine without Carmelo Anthony. Having won four of seven since his injury, the Nuggets have gone 4-2 at home since Jan. 7, and are 17-6 inside the Pepsi Center this season.

Utah comes into this one on 1-4 ATS slides when playing the Northwest, on the road, versus the Western Conference and off an ATS loss. The Nuggets have covered four of five on Sundays and versus the Western Conference, while they’ve covered 23 of their last 29 when laying between 5 and 10-1/2 points.

Pitt +1 at WEST VIRGINIA

I delivered the 2-0 sweep yesterday with my free plays courtesy of Boston College and Washington!

Take Pitt as the small road dog this afternoon over West Virginia.

It’s going to be tough for the Mountaineers to maintain the level of intensity that was on display at Georgetown on Thursday night. The Panthers are even more physical than the Hoyas and they are also deeper as well.

West Virginia played great in that game, but doing so again today is just too much to ask, even at home.

Pitt has revenge motive for a 14-point loss to West Virginia last March, so expect the Panthers to take care of business today.

Pitt is on an 11-5-1 ATS run in this series, going 6-3 ATS in its last nine trips to Morgantown. The chalk is also 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings between these two.

West Virginia has failed to cash in four of its last five overall and five of its last six at home.

Take Pitt as the small road dog as they grab the win.

3 UNIT PLAY

Dallas/ Boston Under 193

The Under is 22-7-1 in Mavericks last 30 Sunday games and 6-1 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, while the Under is 11-1-1 in Celtics last 13 vs. Western Conference and Under is 8-3-1 in their last 12 games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5. Defense is the name of the game in Celtic land as they come in allowing just 91.1 ppg, including allowing 88.2 ppg in their last 7 games. Boston is ranked 2nd in points allowed and 2nd in FG% defense. The Mavericks defense has been respectable this year as they are 14th overall (98.8 ppg) and 8th in FG% defense (44.9%). Both teams rank in the top 11 in points scored, but I believe the defenses will rule the roost in this one and that will lead to the Under.

WUNDERDOG

San Antonio at Los Angeles Lakers
Pick: Los Angeles Lakers -6.5

One thing for sure this season - the Lakers pick their spots to show up and make a statement. Still accused (and deservedly so) sometimes of playing soft, the Lakers have picked big games this year to play really hard, and mean, and send their excellent opponent whimpering home. When facing a really good team, they show up and play a different game. This is one of those games. The Lakers lost to the Spurs by one point in San Antonio on January 14th. It was certainly a game which LA had in their hands with 12 seconds left. A questionable foul then put Roger Mason on the line to give the Spurs the lead. Another questionable traveling call on Trevor Ariza sealed the deal for the Spurs. Why so much talk of this? Los Angeles is out for revenge. And when this team is motivated, they can blow you out of the building. More proof? LA is 8-1 ATS this season vs. teams at .600 to .700. Take LA here in a statement big win.
