Cajun-Sports Executive

Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers
Pick: Boston Celtics -3

The Wachovia Center will be the site of tonight’s Eastern Conference clash between the host Philadelphia 76ers and the visiting Boston Celtics. The Celtics won the first two meetings between these two by 19 and 24 points respectively. Although both of those games took place on Boston’s home floor earlier this season.

The Celtics are coming off a home win over the improving Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, 109 to 101. The defending champs struggled a bit in that contest with star Kevin Garnett out suffering from the effects of the flu but Paul Pierce scored 36 points and Ray Allen had 22 in the win.

The 76ers enter tonight’s contest off a very disappointing loss at home to the New Jersey Nets on Saturday 85 to 83. The Sixers went cold in the fourth against the Nets missing it last eighteen shots and only managing to score a total of eight points in the fourth quarter. After winning seven straight which was a season high for them they have since split their last six contests. They have also struggled against the spread during their last six posting a record of 1-4-1 ATS. The Sixers will need a much better performance tonight to have any chance at slowing the defending champs.

Boston has been solid away from TD Banknorth their last five games have seen them post a record of 5-0 both straight up and against the number. They have not only won and covered in those five contests but they have won by a double-digit margin. The fact that this is a divisional contest also favors the Celtics as they are 39-17-1 ATS in division contests and 5-0 ATS versus Eastern Conference opponents overall their last five. Philly on the other hand is a miserable 1-5 against the number when facing an Atlantic Division rival their last six.

Data base research has uncovered technical support for the defending champs in tonight’s game. Boston when coming off a home game and now on the road are 215-169-9 ATS overall. If they went ‘over’ in that game and are now on the road they are 102-74-4 ATS. If the Celtics lost ATS at home and are now on the road they are 111-83-6 ATS. When facing division opponents off a home game and now on the road they are 127-97-5 ATS. Boston coming off a home game and are now on the road facing Philly they are 15-4-2 ATS and if they lost ATS at home and now face Philly on the road they are 9-0-1 ATS.

We have three NBA Systems that are active for tonight’s game in Philly. Play AGAINST NBA teams coming off a home loss in their last game and are now installed as a home underdog, 179-223-14 ATS. Play AGAINST NBA teams off an ATS loss and going ‘under’ at home in their last game and are now a home underdog, 87-121-8 ATS. Play ON NBA teams where the line is +3 to -3 with a team shooting >=47.5%) against a team that allows 43.5-45.5% from the field, 84-45 ATS since 1996.

Our Team Performance Ratings Index projects a Boston win and cover over the 76ers with a margin of victory of 9.2 points. Our Math Model Ratings Index also signals a win and cover by the defending champs with a margin of 5 to 7 points above the line of 2.5.

With strong fundamental, situational and technical support for the visitor we will back them here as they get the straight and against the spread win over the 76ers in Philly tonight. Lay the short price as Boston rolls to another double-digit win over the 76ers on Tuesday night.

PROJECTED FINAL SCORE: (4*) Boston Celtics 105 Philadelphia 76ers 92
