Big Al McMordie

New Orleans Hornets vs. Los Angeles Lakers (NBA)
Nov 6, 2007 10:35 PM EST

Play: New Orleans Hornets

At 10:35 pm, our complimentary selection is on the New Orleans Hornets plus the points over the Lakers, as we will fade Kobe Bryant & Co. off their back-to-back wins over Phoenix and Utah (both wins as an underdog). And the Lakers are a dismal 6-25 ATS vs. Western Conference foes in the regular season since January 16, 2004 if the Lakers check in off back-to-back wins and covers. Take New Orleans to pull the upset at Staples Center tonight. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

For Tuesday lay a few points with the Nets at home.

I fully admit that Mike Woodson's Hawks are much improved and are a team that will not continue to be a bottomfeeder but this price is still too cheap to pass up on the home Nets.
Atlanta's draft is turning out to be very very good as Acie Law and Al Horford are legit NBA players to go along with a star in Joe Johnson and other quality pieces including the athletic as heck Josh Smith but I still believe this number should be more as Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Nenad Krstic and the boys from New Jersey form a squad that may very well win the Eastern Conference.
The Hawks upset Dallas in the opener and just outplayed Detroit in the one point loss on Sunday. The Nets have not been as good as they just beat the 76ers by a few points after getting blasted by 40 at home by the Raptors. Even with these results New Jersey at home only laying a handful is still too cheap and that is the bottom line.
Lawrence Frank's group will be ready to go after that embarassing last home effort against Toronto. These guys will be focused and in need of a good performance in front of their faithful. It's a tough spot for the Hawks who will be handled here in their worst performance of the young season.

Take "(719) NOR Hornets"

Both teams are in sharp form, but the Hornets are the far superior team defensively. I've always been a believer in backing defensive dogs in the right situation, and I see the number a bit higher than I'd have made it, so New Orleans is my opinion for Tuesday in the NBA.

Central Michigan Chippewas - 3 over (at) Western Michigan Broncos

Western Michigan (3-6, 2-3) eliminated from the MAC title chase off going 1-3 last four games including a 19-2 loss at (3-7) E.Michigan last game. Central Michigan (5-4) at 4-0 in conference looks to return to the champ game which it won 31-10 last season. CMU in MAC games leads averaging 46.5 ppg. WMU ranks ninth averaging 24.4 ppg.

Central Michigan @ Western Michigan u67.0

Tue Nov 6 '07 7:30p

Rain, wind and 30-degree temps arrived in Kalamazoo Monday, and snow showers of 1-3? will greet the players Tuesday with 20+ mph winds expected at game time. Intense rivalry game should have both defenses bringing their best against high-powered MAC offenses. CMU has the conferences top offense led by Sophomore QB Dan LeFevour, sixth in the nation in total offense. He?s a dual threat and has passed for over 2300 yards. He torched the leagues top defense (at the time) in the Chippewas last game, lighting up Kent?s defense for over 250 passing yards and 580 total yards. Western Michigan?s pass defense offers little resistance, and the Broncos offense features the conferences top wide receiver in Jamarko Simmons (75/865). Despite all the offensive firepower, must note that none of Western Michigan?s last three conference games have even sniffed this total and they were embarrassed by lowly Eastern Michigan in their last contest with six turnovers in a 19-2 defeat. Central Michigan runs the ball for over 225 ypg in conference play, and weather conditions will likely dictate more running plays. This is a big total that needs two participants to reach. While Central Michigan?s defense is also vulnerable, I think the cold, windy and wet conditions will play a big enough factor to keep this one under the total.

Toronto Raptors (-) @ Milwaukee @ 8:05 ET
This line did jump early and made a move on Toronto. Basically that is the only thing that has kept this from being a star rated play for us on Tuesday as we lost some of the early value with Toronto. We still feel strongly about this situation and will use it as our Free Pick on Tuesday. While the Raptors are coming off of a tough OT loss on Sunday the Bucks scored a big upset win of Chicago on Saturday. Based on that, the Raptors will be the ones bringing extra attitude to this game Tuesday while the Bucks are still enjoying their big win over the Bulls Saturday. The Raptors Chris Bosh now seems recovered from the injury that limited him in the preseason and that is bad news for a Bucks team that will have trouble containing him.

Play Toronto minus the points

Selection: San Antonio Spurs -3 (-110)

Today the San Antonio Spurs will be on the road as they take on the Houston Rockets. We will lay the points with the Spurs! The Spurs have been off for the past four days which means they are well rested. In fact, you can rest assure that Head Coach Gregg Popovich will have his team ready for the Rockets. On the other hand, the Rockets played a very hard game against the Mavericks last night (falling short of a win), and will not be fresh tonight. The bottom line, if you want to beat a team like the Spurs, you need to be fresh and ready. We also don't mind the Rockets being at home as they are a poor 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games (dating back to last season). We will lay the small number with the much superior team! Take the San Antonio Spurs -3

Matchup: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Chicago Bulls

Selection: Chicago Bulls -7 (-110)

Bobby Maxwell

Don't know what's gotten into the Lakers but we're going to ride them before they figure out they're not this good of a team. Los Angeles has put up 119 points in each of its last two outings, a win in Phoenix by 21 points on Friday and a 119-109 home win over the Jazz on Sunday.
The Lakers are shooting 51.7 percent from the floor and hit on 55.8 percent of their shots against the Jazz on Sunday. Kobe Bryant has led the way, averaging 31.3 points and eight rebounds a game this season and he hit 13 of 19 shots against Utah Sunday.
Los Angeles is 4-2 ATS in the last six meetings with the Hornets and as well as the Lakers' offense is going, no way we can bet against them in this one. They're averaging 106 points a game this season while New Orleans is putting up 93 points an outing.
Lay the small chalk and play the Lakers in this one.

Take "(713) LA Clippers"

To put it mildly, the Bulls' lackluster preseason play has carried over to the regular season, and the result is an 0-3 SU/ATS start after a 78-72 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. It was another nightmarish performance, with the team's big three scorers -- Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng -- combining for only 29 points on 12-for-37 shooting. Overall, the Bulls were 27-for-77 (35.1 percent) from the field with 19 turnovers. The Clippers (2-0 SU/ATS) underachieved last season and are rolling, averaging 118 ppg with a healthy Sam Cassell and a hungry Chris Kaman. Play the Clippers

A lot of people like what the Houston Rockets are doing so far this year and like the job new coach Rick Adelman has done, but I say that 3-1 record is deceiving. Sure the Rockets are 3-1 SU, but they?re 1-3 ATS.
They?ll get knocked into reality tonight as they take on the defending champion Spurs.
San Antonio has looked solid with that 3-0 mark, but at 1-2 ATS, things haven?t been so hot. As the defending champs expectations are stupidly high and the lines for their games have been borderline outrageous and they?ve been the victim of their own success.
But tonight?s line is a little more forgiving and plays right into their hands.
Go with the Spurs big tonight as they ground the Rockets.

THE SPORTS ADVISORS

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Central Michigan (5-4, 5-3 ATS) at Western Michigan (3-6, 1-7 ATS)

Central Michigan can wrap up its second consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division title with a victory over Western Michigan, which is looking to halt a two-game SU losing skid.
The Chippewas are 4-0 SU and ATS in conference play and they lead the MAC West by 1? games over Ball State. Central Michigan has had a bizarre season in that it has gotten blown out in four of its five non-conference games, while winning its four MAC games by margins of 21, 25, 20 and 9 points, most recently topping Kent State 41-32 as a three-point road chalk.
Western Michigan got all of its points off a safety in its most recent contest on Oct. 27, a 19-2 loss at Eastern Michigan as a six-point road favorite. The Broncos, who have already been eliminated from bowl contention, are 0-4 ATS in their last four games.
This rivalry has belonged to the home team in recent years, going 15-2 SU and 11-5-1 ATS in the last 17 meetings. Last year, Central Michigan was clinging to a 10-7 halftime lead at home, but forced three turnovers in the second half en route to an easy 31-7 win as a six-point home favorite, snapping an 0-4 ATS skid against Western Michigan.
The Chippewas are 2-0 SU and ATS in MAC road games, winning by an average of 15 points per outing (50-35), but 0-3 SU and ATS in non-conference road contests, losing by an average of 42 points per game (56-14).
The Broncos have played four home games, this year, going 0-3 SU and ATS against three Division I-A opponents. The lone win was a 51-14 rout of Central Connecticut in a non-lined contest.
Western Michigan is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 as an underdog, but 0-5 ATS in its last five home games and 2-8-1 ATS in its last 11 as a home underdog.
Central Michigan is 10-1 ATS in its last 11 games against losing teams and 15-2 ATS in its last 17 as a favorite. Overall, the Chips are on a 22-6-1 ATS roll.
The over is 12-5 in Western Michigan?s last 17 home contests, but the last three series meetings with Central Michigan have stayed under the posted price.

ATS ADVANTAGE: CENTRAL MICHIGAN

THE SPORTS ADVISORS

NBA

San Antonio (3-0, 1-2 ATS) at Houston (3-1, 1-3 ATS)
The Rockets face an instate divisional rival for the second straight night, this time at home where they host the unbeaten Spurs.
Houston opened the season with three straight victories, but suffered its first setback of the season last night, falling 107-98 at Dallas as a five-point road underdog. The Rockets are 1-8 ATS in their last nine games (playoffs includes).
San Antonio has been idle since Friday?s 96-80 rout of the Kings, barely covering as a 14?-piont home favorite, the team?s first spread-cover the of the season. Going back to last year?s playoffs, the Spurs have won nine consecutive games SU, and they?re 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22.
The road team has won the last six meetings in this rivalry, going 5-1 ATS in the process. Last year, San Antonio traveled to Houston twice and won 92-84 as a one-point underdog and 97-74 as a four-point chalk. The Spurs are 4-0 in their last four visits to the Toyota Center (3-1 ATS) and the underdog is 6-2 ATS in the last eight series battles.
In their only road game this year, the Spurs held off Memphis 104-101, failing as a 6?-point road chalk.
The Rockets topped the Blazers 89-80 in their home opener on Saturday, but came up shy as an 11?-point favorite. They?re just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 at home since last spring.
The under is 9-3 in San Antonio?s last 12 road games and 12-5 in Houston?s last 16 against Southwest Division foes. Finally, the under is 20-6 in the last 26 series clashes between these squads, including 8-1 in the last nine. In fact, neither team has scored 100 points in this series in the last 20 meetings, the longest such ongoing streak in the NBA.
ATS ADVANTAGE: SAN ANTONIO and UNDER

New Orleans (2-1) at L.A. Lakers (2-1)
The surprising Lakers, who are playing well despite the ongoing trade speculation surrounding superstar Kobe Bryant, shoot for their third straight win when they host the Hornets at Staples Center in L.A.
Los Angeles opened the season with a tough 95-93 home loss to the Rockets as a 5?-point home underdog, nearly overcoming a 12-point deficit with 1:36 to play. The Lakers bounced back from that setback, however, routing the Suns 119-98 as a nine-point underdog on Friday and topping the Jazz 119-109 as a two-point home pup on Sunday.
New Orleans kicked off the campaign with two blowout home wins over the Kings and Blazers, then scored a 93-88 upset victory at Denver on Sunday as a five-point underdog. The Hornets have cashed in six straight games since last season and are 12-1 ATS in their last 13. Also, with the win at Denver, they?re on an 8-0 ATS run on the road.
The Hornets took two of three from the Lakers last year, including a 105-89 win as an eight-point pup in their only trip to the Staples Center. In fact, the underdog won outright in all three meetings last year. Also, the straight-up winner is 9-1 ATS in the last 10 battles.
L.A. has cashed in both of its home games this year after ending the 2006-07 season in a 4-18-1 ATS slump at home.
Eleven of the last 12 meetings have gone over the total, including the last eight in a row, with the victor scoring at least 101 points in all eight games. Also, the over is 14-6 in L.A.?s last 20 games at Staples Center (1-1 this year) and 26-10-2 in the Hornets? last 38 overall (2-1 this year).
ATS ADVANTAGE: OVER

**PREFERRED
Golden State* over Cleveland by 10

Jazz shot 63% from the floor in their 133-110 victory
against the Warriors in Golden State's last game. Which
sets up value on the 0-3 Warriors as they tackle a team
where Pavlovic hasn't settled in and Varejao hasn't been
seen.

Cavs won here last year 106-104 in overtime, but it was
the Warriors' first game after the big trade with Indiana.
At the time, the Warriors were 19-21. We all know they
finished 42-40, then beat the West's #1 seed in the
first round of the playoffs.

"I like the pieces that we have now," Don Nelson said
immediately after last year's meeting. "That was a glimpse
of the way we can play. Now it's up to me to put guys in
a position where they can succeed and not fail."

You're 0-3. Do it Nellie, do it! GOLDEN STATE, 108-98.

* CLOSE CALL
Central Michigan over Western Michigan* by 8

Last week Justin Hoskins became the first
Central Michigan running back to rush for over 100
yards since Ontario Sneed ran for 168 yards in the
Chips' second game of the season.

Sneed, who missed the last three games with a foot
injury, is set to return tonight. Aha. Western Michigan
defense surrendered 151 yards rushing last week to
Eastern Michigan's Pierre Walker and can get
trampled again in the rain, snow and wind tonight. The
Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFavour is a
running threat and the WMU quarterbacks are not. In
the expected weather, that is an added bonus for
the small road favorite. CENTRAL MICHIGAN, 34-26.

OPINION - BULLS - MEMPHIS U

tuesday
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Chicago Bulls minus the points over the Clippers, as rested teams off three SU/ATS losses to start the season are a terrific 78% ATS in Game 4 vs. a foe off an ATS win. With Chicago sitting at 0-3 SU/ATS after losses to New Jersey, Philly, and Milwaukee, and the Clips off a 120-114 over Golden State, we'll play on Scotty Skiles' crew to break into the win column tonight with a blowout win. Lay the points.

At 9 pm, our selection is on the Memphis Tigers over Richmond in the 2nd Round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic, as Memphis falls into a super 46-17 ATS early season College System of mine. John Calipari's Tigers are loaded this year, and justifiably ranked #3 in the country. The Tigers have the nation's longest home win streak (at 33 games), and welcomed a heralded freshman last night in the person of Derrick Rose, a 6'4" guard from Chicago. Last night, Rose was very impressive, as he scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out five assists, and threw down four dunks. Chris Douglas-Roberts, the preseason Conference USA Player of the Year added 28 points for Memphis, and the Tigers blew out Tennessee-Martin 102-71. Look for another blowout tonight. Lay the big number with Memphis. Good luck as always...Al McMordie.
