Lock Of The Day

Kentucky +4

This month lock of the day is 13-3 amazing month there on fire!!!!!

We're putting a little money on Kentucky tonight. They have played well lately with wins over Tennessee and Alabama, and close losses to Florida and Miss St. They've already beaten Vandy once this year and that was close throughout. Kentucky's defense has been ramped up a notch lately, along with the offensive output. Vandy plays ZERO defense. We like the Wildcats.

Jared Klien free NHL play:

Boston -130

The Boston Bruins host the Carolina Hurricanes tonight looking to snap a three game home losing streak tonight at the TD Banknorth Garden. The Bruins are just one point ahead of the Sabres for the last playoff seed and have a sense of urgency for the first time in a while now that Buffalo is nipping at their heels. The Bruins did get some great news as Glen Murray made his return to the lineup and began to pay immediate dividends. Murray had a goal and an assist in his second game back after missing 19 games with a hip flexor injury. "Obviously he's been a great addition since he's come back the last two games," Boston head coach Claude Julien was quoted as saying. "He just creates that threat every time he's on the ice, every time he's in that slot area." The Hurricanes look to be in sell mode after making their first big trade of the year as they sent forward Cory Stillman and defenseman Mike Commodore to the Ottawa Senators on Monday for forward Patrick Eaves and defenseman Joe Corvo. "We're very happy to address one of our needs, making our defense more mobile and adding a player like Joe that can play on the power play," Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford was quoted as saying. "Also, we view Patrick as a real character player, a real good young player that can fit into our style of play." Stillman was tied for second on the team with 21 goals and added 25 assists in 55 games, while Commordore recorded 74 penalty minutes in 41 games played this year. The Hurricanes are 1-3-0 on their current road trip and I don’t expect them to go into Boston and get the win after dealing two players that were keys to their Stanley Cup run just two years ago. Take Boston tonight.

Indian Cowboy

Purdue -1

Took me a while to get the comp selection out today but I like the Boilermakers as my third selection. Let's not forget that they have been playing great basketball and although I like Izzo and Michigan State, they have been struggling away from home with offense. I have Michigan State as a top 20 team and Purdue as a top 30 which makes sense given their rankings. Michigan State on the road is ranked in the top 50. Granted, this team looks to bounce-back after a tough road game at Penn State where they lost to a top 150 team on the road, but this is the toughest game that Michigan State has played on the road. Purdue is 13-1 at home and their 1 home loss was against Wofford back on December 19th. Purdue played very well at home beating another top 20 team recently in Wisconsin and given that the Boilermakers lost 75-78 earlier this year at Michigan State, I'll take my chances with Purdue getting their revenge today. The Boilermakers are 10-1 as favorites of this margin of late and Michigan State is 1-5-1 as road underdogs of this margin.

VEGASEXPERTS TIP OF THE DAY

Detroit Pistons at Atlanta Hawks

It's now or never for the Hawks who have lost the first three meetings to the Pistons this year. Home loss came by 11 points but before that Atlanta had won and covered two-of-three in the host role. Detroit hammered woeful Charlotte at home Sunday so steps up in class and goes out on the road here. Atlanta comes home after a Saturday night loss at red-hot Houston. It is 16-10 at home and 15-11 ATS.

Play on: Atlanta

Larry Ness

Princeton Tigers v/s Penn Quakers

There looks as if there will be a changing of the guard in the Ivy League this year. Cornell is off to a 6-0 start and only Brown (4-2) is over .500 in league play among the other seven schools. It has been 20 years since a school other than Penn or Princeton represented the Ivy league in the NCAA tournament and that was Cornell, back in 1988. The Big Red seem well on their way to celebrating that 20-year anniversary. As for Penn and Princeton, both schools are 2-2 in Ivy play, while posting overall marks of 7-14 and 5-14, respectively. The Quakers lost guard Jaaber (a two-time Ivy player-of-the-year), the 6-7 Zoller (All-Ivy the last two years) and a three-year starter in the 6-8 Danley. Jaaber (15.9-4.5-5.2) was a terrific all-around player, Zoller (18.2-7.5) was one of the Ivy's best inside players and Danley (8.7-4.6) was just plain steady. Princeton entered this year on a three-year slide with just 38 overall wins the past three seasons, hitting rock-bottom last year with a 2-12 Ivy mark, which landed them dead-last in the conference standings. Princeton is not deep (no more than six players really contribute) and the team's top-two scorers are guard Gunn (10.5) and the 6-9 Konce (10.2-5.3). I'd 'LOVE' Penn in this game if I was sure 6-6 freshman Bernardini (13.0) was 100 percent (or close to it) but he missed Penn's last game with a concussion and is listed as questionable here. Still, the Quakers own more talent than the Tigers, led by senior guard Grandieri (12.5-5.5) and 6-8 freshman Eggleston (7.8-4.1). The Quakers definitely own more depth, with 6-9 center Schreiber (5.3-3.8), the 6-8 Reilly (5.4) and the 6-8 Lewis (3.7-2.8) in the frontcourt. On the perimeter, two more freshman, Gaines (5.8) and Cofield (2.5)) will get Bernardini's minutes (if he can't go), as will vets Kach (5.4) and Egee (3.2). These two schools are no longer the "class" of the Ivy but at home, Penn should have little trouble with a Princeton team which is 0-8 on the road this year. With or WITHOUT, Bernardini, let's take the Quakers.

INDIANCOWBOY

Indiana/Boston Over 204 (POD)

2-1 Yesterday, Winning 26 of 43 days (60%), NBA 2007: 85-53 (60%) and 28 of 46 POD Winners (61%).

I mentioned in my blog earlier today that if this line is around 205 today I will be taking the over. Indiana has faced some of the more defensive teams in the league and have managed to go over the posted total including the Pistons, Rockets and now the Celtics. Keep in mind that Indiana is typically very competitive at home and Boston feeds into the game in which the road team plays - in particular with no Garnett. Look for this game to be an up and down game and Boston to shoot the ball well as Indy as Indy will be an active dog today and I wouldn't be surprised if each team gets 110 points here. Indy went over against San Antonio and Orlando as well and remember what the score was between the Cavs and Boston when they faced each other? 113-114 - look for this game to be high scoring. Over is 5-1 when the C's are small favorites and the over is 5-0 when the Pacers are home underdogs by this margin.

Vanderbilt -4

Do you remember who gave Vandy their first loss of the season? It was Kentucky at home who defeated Vanderbilt. Now, Vandy gets to return the favor against the Wildcats. Keep in mind though that Kentucky comes off big road wins over Georgia and Auburn and big home wins over Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina. So why not ride them here? Well, Vanderbilt is not a tpo 125 team such as Auburn or Georgia that Kentucky faces on the road. Vandy is a very tough place to play, the crowd will be rocking, this team is a top 40 power ranking team and Kentucky is 0-4 against top 100 teams on the road. Kentucky lost to Houston by 14 on the road who is a top 50 team and Florida on the road by double-digits. Look for Vandy to get out some frustration today at home. Vandy has covered their last 5 as small favorites of late and beat a better ranked Georgia Tech team by 13, and I believe they squeeze out the cover here.

Purdue -1

Dustin Squires
Michigan State Spartans @ Purdue Boilermakers
Pick: 3 units: Michigan State Spartans +1

Michigan State (20-3, 8-2) was the popular pick to win the conference in 2007-08, and the Spartans looked like a solid bet to do so Jan. 8 when they beat Purdue 78-75. In that game, coach Tom Izzo's team shot a season-high 61.0 percent en route to its 11th straight victory. The Boilermakers, however, haven't lost since. The Spartans have been playing strong basketball led by point guard Preseason Big Ten player of the year Drew Neitzel, who has been leading his team to victory by an average of 12 points in the last three games. With Purdue coming off their biggest win of the season beating Wisconsin at home, its going to be hard for the Boilermakers to put on a repeat performance. If you got the money to do so bet this game Michigan St. Moneyline. Ill see you guys in the Winners Circle!!

WILL SYKES

DETROIT vs ATLANTA

SYKE-O-ANALYSIS: The Pistons have been at home for quite some time now and building a nice win streak. But tonight the Pistons feel the pressure of Hawks triple revenge as Atlanta returns home. Two nights ago the Hawks went to Houston shooting 37% With none of their starters hitting double digits. Tonight we will witness NO MERCY style play against these Pistons. This is where it gets interesting with the line and how the line makers are psyching you out. The Pistons simply beat the Hawks 3 straight times this season. Game 1 (11/4/07) the Pistons were at home winning by only 1 point as 7.5 point favorites. One month later Game 2 (12/4/07) the Hawk return home and losing by 11, this is where it gets tricky, remember this; they were 6 point dogs. So the Pistons easily coved the 6 point line by a margin of 5 (106-95). Ten days later Game 3 (12/14/07) the Pistons return home once again winning, but barely covering the spread of 9.5, winning by 10 (91-81). This is where it gets good, why does Vegas set tonight's line at favoring Detroit by 5, when in Game 2 Detroit was on the road (underlined above) they were 6 point dogs and they easily covered that line, then now they're on the road again with the line set at -5 and after covering two consecutive games against this team? It gets even better with this line movement, the public pounds the Pistons with an opening line of -5, and yet the line gets pushed down to -4.5? This game has psych out written all over it. The home team in this match up has won 8 of 10 games straight up. Which favors the Hawks big time. And with a 8 game winning streak the pressure is on the Pistons, while the Hawks play NO MERCY. Don't get psyched out here by the lines makers, and join Sykes in a 5* GEM. Just stick with Sykes as we pound Vegas and show them NO MERCY, and once again.....Sykes becomes victorious.

NO MERCY GEM: Atlanta Hawks +4.5
