KANSAS @ NEBRASKA (4** PLAY)

Kansas and Nebraska will meet tonight in what seems to be a solid divisional match up between a very good defensive Nebraska team. In division match ups this year the home dog is 8-19ATS with a margin of loss of 9.8 points. We have the spread at 4 points and we think Kansas will easily cover the spread. The last time Nebraska came within 4 points of Kansas was 2005, in fact Kansas has covered 8 of the last 9 games between the two. Kansas has also been hot as of late 6-2ATS in their last 8 road games including their last game against Iowa St. Nebraska also played at Iowa St. with the opposite result. While Kansas won 82-67, Nebraska lost 53-65 and was out rebounded by 14. Kansas out rebounded Iowa State by 11. I think Kansas will control the game by rebounding efficiently. Nebraska has been getting killed on the glass in their last 5 games they are getting out rebounded by opponents by 9 per game. They also have been shooting terribly 40% from the field and giving up 45% from the field. Kansas on the other hand has been playing great defense 36.7% from the field in their last 5 games. I think Nebraska will really have a hard time scoring tonight. Kansas (4-0 in conference) has improved the entire year and I think Nebraska has taken a step back (2-3 in conference). Take Kansas -4 (4** play)

Denver at New Orleans
Play: New Orleans -3.5

After flirting with a quadruple-double in his latest game, Chris Paul will try to lead the short-handed Hornets to their fifth win in six games on Wednesday night when they host C. Billups and the Nuggets, who are looking for their fourth straight victory. The Hornets have played tough basketball with two of their starter and the feeling here is they can get it done at home.

2* (Top Play) Detroit Pistons (-) @ Minnesota

We’ve used this theory very recently and it was a winner in part of our nine-game winning streak on Hoops Top Plays that we currently have going. This theory revolves around what happens when the “hunter” becomes the “hunted”. This theory is in play again today as the Pistons travel to take on the Timberwolves in Minnesota. Normally, it’s the Pistons that would have to avoid overlooking the T-wolves but this situation is entirely different and what that means for us is a fantastic situation for a play ON Detroit. The Pistons have lost seven of their last nine games. As for the Timberwolves, and we’ve ridden them often during their hot streak, they’ve won ten of their twelve games in January! So, why is the play ON Detroit here? It all has to do with hunger and value! We can take a very talented Pistons team that has their backs against the wall and we can take them to avenge an embarrassing 26 point loss at HOME that was suffered at the hands of Minnesota earlier this season. Yes, the Pistons are currently struggling and the Timberwolves have been hot but a closer look reveals some key factors.

As hot as Minnesota has been this month they’ve been quite fortunate too. They started the month 5-0 but the wins were against the Warriors, Bulls, Grizzlies, Thunder, and Bucks. Of that group, only Milwaukee currently has more than 14 wins on the season and even the Bucks are four games below .500 on the season. Their next five wins in their 10-2 January included the Bulls and Bucks again. Plus, this time when the Timberwolves faced Milwaukee, the Bucks had just lost Michael Redd to a season-ending injury! The other three wins in this stretch included a victory over the Clippers plus a Hornets team that was hammered by the injury bug when the Timberwolves faced them. Perhaps their most impressive win this month was a win over the Suns and yet, even that win was diminished by the fact it came during a stretch where Phoenix would end up losing five of six games! Don’t get us wrong, Minnesota is much better than they use to be and we’ve successfully used them often during this recent run. It’s just that there is a time and place for everything and now, after facing a slew of injury-riddled teams, the Timberwolves are facing a Detroit team that is injury-free and VERY hungry! Allen Iverson sat for much of the fourth quarter in the Pistons tight loss versus Houston on Sunday. Look for this to be a wake-up call for him and for the entire team. This team still has so much talent…they even bring Richard Hamilton off the bench…however, they’re currently “devalued” by the odds makers and the bettors and we’ll take advantage of that here. Play Detroit as a Top Play selection on Wednesday night.

Joe D'Amico

76ers at Rockets
Pick: 76ers +5

Philly has a hot-hand lately, winning 8 of their last 10 and covering 7 of those 8 games. Over that 10 game span, they have beat Houston already, Charlotte, Atlanta, Portland, San Antonio, and New York twice. All good teams. Houston is banged up with both Ron Artest and Yao Ming listed as questionable today. Even if they play, they will not be 100%. Philly is 6-1 ATS their last 7 as a 'dog, and 10-3 ATS their last 13 vs. the Southwest. Houston is 3-8 ATS their last 11 as a fav and 2-6 ATS their last 8 on 1 days rest. the 'dog in this series is 14-3 ATS their last 17 and the road team is 12-4 ATS their last 16. Philly shocks the world.
