INDIAN COWBOY

Magic -5.5 (POD)

Back to back 2-1 days, Winning 25 of 40 days (60%), 28 of 47 POD Winners (60%) and 86-53 in NBA 2007 (62%).

Denver comes off a tough overtime win over the Heat and they come into Orlando against a Magic team that is not in a good mood. Yesterday, Coach Van Gundy called out Dwight Howard in the news press conference stating that his young and talented center is losing focus and is not doing a good job of providing help defense, rebounding or playing defense overall and just wants to score. Howard will likely step up in a big way today on the defensive end and look for him to guard the basket very well. He stated that his team's winning % is well over 90% when Howard has 3 blocks or more in a ballgame and the last 6 ballgames Howard has had just 5 blocks. Long story short here, the Magic came off a terrible loss to the Cavs at home, they also have revenge in this game from losing to Denver earlier this year and all of that accumulates to a good chance the Magic step up in a big way and pull this game out + the cover here. The Nuggets are 4-12 ATS when facing a team with a winning % greater than 60% meaning they struggle against the better teams in the league and the Magic are 6-1 ATS following an ATS loss.

Golden State -2

Despite the public loving the Suns today, I'm going with my Warriors. The Suns are simply not the same team without Marion as they miss his athletic abillity including scoring and rebounding. Heck, Marion had 19 points and 15 rebounds in his last game for the Heat against the Nuggets or somewhere round-abouts to that total. This just goes to show you how valuable he was to this team. Now, having said that, the Suns are making due with barely winning agianst Sonics and the Wizards - although the Wiz gave the Warriors a tough time too, but the Warriors could have been looking ahead to this game. The Warriors defeated this team earlier this year at home and there is no reason why they can't do it again today. Despite the public hounding the Suns here as they ware the best team in the West, the Warriors have won the last 2 times these 2 teams have played and will likely make it third straight today as Golden State will be rocking for this ballgame. The Suns are 0-4 ATS against the Western Conference of late, the Warriors are 4-1 ATS against teams with a striaght up winning record, meaning they are showing up against the better teams and the home team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 ballgames in this matchup.

Pacers +10

This is my 3rd favorite play of the day but why not take a shot here on the Pacers against the Pistons. The Pacer team has struggled quite a bit lately against the better teams in the league although they did win recently at New York and against a beat up Blazers team at home. The Pacers head on the road against a Pistons team that they lost to by 6 at home but were competitive most of the game and actually led 32-23 at the end of the first quarter and were down 59-57 at the end of the first half. The Pacers come off a tough loss to the Celtics at home so I expect them to bounce-back well tonight against a Pistons team that is solid, but I would not be surprised to see the Pacers hang tough and lose by a similar margin like they did in their last contest. The Pacers are 5-2 ATS as road underdogs and the Pistons are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 ballgames as a favorite. I'll take my chances here with the Pacers hanging tough.

Wednesday College Opinions

TOLEDO (+4 ½) over Ohio
Toledo is not a good team this season but the Rockets continue to beat fellow MAC teams at home. Toledo’s last home game was a win as a 7 point dog over Kent State and that was the Rockets’ 19th consecutive conference home win. Toledo is 15-3-1 ATS in those games, including 8-0 ATS when not favored by 9 points or more (3-0 straight up as a home dog). Ohio hasn’t been as good on the road (41-40-1 ATS) as they’ve been at home (54-25-1 ATS) under coach Tim O’Shea and my ratings favor the Bobcats by just 4 points. If I used Toledo’s home games this season against Ohio’s road games then I’d get a line of pick. I’ll lean with Toledo at +4 or more.

Drake (+3 ½) over SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
Drake has won 21 consecutive games and the Bulldogs covered the spread in their only loss of the season, a 6 point setback on the road against a very good St. Mary’s squad. Southern Illinois, meanwhile, is just 12-12 for the season and 7-6 in Missouri Valley Conference play (Drake is 13-0). So why the hell is Southern Illinois a 3 ½ point favorite? Home court advantage is just over 4 points in college basketball so this line suggests that Drake is only ½ a point better than the Salukis. Drake has been disrespected all season by the oddsmakers (15-4 ATS) and the only occasions when Drake isn’t covering is when they’re a big favorite. When Drake is favored by 6 points or less or getting points they are 12-1 ATS, including 6-0 ATS as an underdog of pick. Southern Illinois does play better at home, but they’re 1-2 straight up this season against teams of Drake’s caliber, beating St. Mary’s but losing to Indiana and Butler. My ratings favor Drake by 2 points in this game and I’d still only get Southern Illinois by ½ a point if I only used their home games against Drake’s road games. The only reason this is not a Best Bet is because unranked home favorites have been a pretty good play over ranked teams over the years (although SIU shouldn’t even be favored in this game), but I will certainly lean with Drake at +3 or more.
