WNBA Betting Preview

New York at Dallas: This one is even and the total has dropped a few points to 172.5. I have New York winning 89-87, although that doesn’t take into consideration that the Liberty are going to be a bit short-handed once again in this one, with two players competing in an overseas tournament.

The Liberty won all three home games when short-handed, but were thumped in their first road game, losing to Connecticut 96-76 last game. It’s still a bit hard to get a decent read on New York as an away team, as they’ve been the visitors just three times so far this season.

Dallas is just 4-7 on the season and play an entertaining high-scoring game, although that doesn’t always equate to success, as they don’t play much defense. They are 4-7 on the season and 2-3 at home. The Wings are 0-4 playing with no rest (0-1) or one day (0-3) and haven’t played since June 13, which might work to their favor in this one. They may be able to wear down New York in the second half of the game.

Chicago at Phoenix: Phoenix is 5-4 on the season and surprisingly just 2-3 at home. They did beat Chicago 99-91 on the road two weeks ago and find themselves favored by 11 with a total of 164 in this one. This isn’t the greatest of spots for the Mercury, who find themselves playing a 2-7 Chicago team they defeated on the road and are in the middle of a pair of games with Los Angeles. The Sparks beat the Mercury 89-87 back on June 10 and the teams meet on Sunday. Phoenix is 3-0 straight-up and ATS coming off a loss though. Still, you can’t blame Phoenix if they spent a little bit of their five days off preparing for the rematch with Los Angeles.

Chicago’s two wins have both come away from home, although one of them came against winless San Antonio. They also defeated Atlanta two days after losing to the Dream at home. Their 85-81 win at San Antonio is the only time this season they’ve scored more than 80 points on the road. They’ve also played better defense on the road, as all three games in which they’ve allowed 90 or more points came in front of the home fans, so will go ahead and take the under 164 in this one for today’s play.
