WNBA Picks and Analysis
By Allen Moody
Bangthebook.com

Three games in the WNBA today, with all of them being played at night. Both Los Angeles and Minnesota return to action after Thursday’s showdown and it will be interesting to see how much, if anything, that game took out of them.

Washington at Connecticut: The first game on the schedule is probably the best of the bunch, as the Washington Mystics return to the East coast to play the Sun. Connecticut is favored by 3.5 points and the total on this one is 164.5. My numbers make this one 85-85 and my additional totals numbers are calling for a minimum of 166 points.

This one is for first place in the East and Washington has played well against fellow Eastern teams, but is just 1-5 against teams with winning records. The Sun have been a great spread team so far this season, going 12-4 ATS and are in a bit of a revenge situation, having lost at Washington 78-76 earlier in the season.

Minnesota at Chicago: The Lynx are the biggest road favorite dating back to 2011 in this one, as they are now favored by 15.5 with a total of 166.5. My numbers have Minnesota winning 96-77 and the minimum score on the additional methods is 168. Cappie Poindexter will miss the game for Chicago.

It’s hard to see Minnesota getting up for this game, which comes on the heels of a big revenge win over Los Angeles, and the Lynx went through the motions at home against Chicago in May, winning 70-61. Minnesota has a pair of games on deck against Phoenix, but with six days before the first match-up, they shouldn’t be looking ahead.

Los Angeles at Seattle: The Sparks are now favored by 6.5 and the total on this one is 163. My numbers made it 80-79 in favor of Los Angeles and my totals numbers are calling for a minimum of 164 points. The line opened Los Angeles -4 and has climbed, but I’m going to go against the grain and take a shot on Seattle +6.5 for today’s play.

Obviously, this is a bit of a letdown spot for Los Angeles, who also defeated Seattle 78-68 earlier this season, as the Storm made 23 turnovers. Seattle is usually a bit stronger at home, but is coming off a 100-77 thumping at the hands of Minnesota and should be ready to play this game. Seattle defeated Los Angeles in both home games last season, a fact that probably isn’t lost on the Sparks, but still, it’s not the greatest of situations for L.A. to be in.
