San Antonio at Atlanta: The Stars played a strange game Sunday, leading by five at halftime, only to get outscored 33-10 in the third quarter and rally late to cut the final margin to 14. Kayla McBride is questionable for San Antonio. The Dream is favored by 9 and the total is 157.5. My numbers make it Atlanta 84-75, while my three totals methods are each calling for this one to land under the total. Atlanta has played solid defense at home, allowing just 75.4 points per game, which isn’t ideal for an offensively challenged team like the Stars. Atlanta does have a big game at Washington tomorrow and may get caught looking ahead a bit. While the game today is an 11:30 a.m. start, so is the game against the Mystics.
Chicago at Seattle: The Storm is favored by 7, which seems slightly high considering how Chicago has played recently, although my numbers make it 84-77 in favor of Seattle. All three additional methods are also calling for an under. Chicago is coming off a double-overtime loss to Dallas and teams who played two overtime sessions in their previous game have gone 14-18 ATS and 13-19 in totals the next time they take the court. Whether it’s because they’re a bit tired or not is hard to tell.
Chicago has played better defense on the road, while Seattle has typically played tougher defense at home. With Chicago playing much better lately, have to believe the Seattle coaches are going to stress defense in this one, which is Seattle’s lone game for the week. Going to tag along with the numbers and play under 166.5 in this one for today’s play.
