The Cowboys finally appear to be ready to take the next step and win in the playoffs. Oddsmakers clearly like Dallas’s chances this year and have made the Cowboys’ odds 7/1 to win the 2009 Super Bowl.
The Cowboys didn’t need to add much this offseason, so they concentrated on brining back key players from their 2007 postseason run. Dallas franchised tagged safety Ken Hamlin and re-signed one of the top offensive tackles in the game in Flozell Adams. They also added veteran middle linebacker Zach Thomas to boost the leadership in the locker room.
Many pundits are high on the Cowboys this year, and for good reason. They have an innovative offense under coordinator Jason Garrett, as well as plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. They also had a solid draft after landing running back Felix Jones and cornerback Mike Jenkins in the first round. Both players are expected to contribute right away and play key roles for Dallas this season.
Dallas is considered one of the favorites at all of the major bookmakers. Current prices on the Cowboys’ chances to win the 2009 Super Bowl range from 8/1 at SBG Global, to 7/1 Bodog, to 6/1 at Sportsbook.com.
Oddsmakers have also set the Cowboys’ over/under total for wins in 2008 at 10.5, but clearly think Dallas will win more than 10.5 games considering the over pays out at –145 compared to +115 for the under.
The Cowboys are stacked with talent, coaching and are seemingly ready to make a deep postseason run. Their offense is loaded with weapons including quarterback Tony Romo, running back Marion Barber III, receiver Terrell Owens and tight end Jason Witten. The defense is also chockfull of talent and head coach Wade Phillips has one of the better defensive minds in all of football. Dallas has great odds to win Super Bowl XLIII and should be one of the best teams in the NFL in 2008.
