Just how far will Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow take the Florida Gators in 2008? Oddsmakers like Tebow’s chances and have set Florida’s odds to win the 2009 BCS National Championship at 11/2.
Tebow might be all the Gators need in 2008 after he rushed for 895 yards and threw for 3,286 yards in route to becoming the first underclassmen to ever win the Heisman. Tebow will have a tremendous weapon at his disposal with receiver Percy Harvin (858 receiving yards last year), who is also a Heisman candidate this season. The defense should be one of the best in the nation, led by linebacker Brandon Spikes, defensive end Jermaine Cunningham and cornerback Wondy Pierre-Louis.
Florida’s odds at the major online sports books are fairly consistent across the board. Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have established the Gators odds to win the 2009 BCS Championship at 11/2, while Sportsbook.com has them at 5/1 and SBG Global also has them at 11/2.
The Gators should have a more balanced attack this year on offense, which means Tebow might not have eye-popping numbers again, but it should translate to more wins. Head coach Urban Meyer will to have to get his team to put the loss to Michigan in the Capital One Bowl behind them, however, and concentrate on yet another tough year in the SEC. Florida has plenty of competition in the conference with Georgia and Auburn also expected to be good, but the Gators are loaded with talent and certainly could contend for a national title.
