The Colts are ready to take on another year led by quarterback Peyton Manning and their high-powered offense. Oddsmakers clearly like Indianapolis’s chances again this year and have made the Colts’ odds 7/1 to win the 2009 Super Bowl.
The Colts concentrated on re-signing key players from their already stacked roster, including guard Ryan Lilja and defensive end Josh Thomas. The Colts didn’t lose much in free agency, although Ben Utecht was developing into a nice compliment to fellow tight end Dallas Clark.
Not surprisingly, the buzz is alive again in Indianapolis heading into the 2008 NFL Season. Many believe the Colts will once again win the AFC South, something they’ve done every year since 2003. Led by Pro Bowl and former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Peyton Manning, the Colts are once again ready to challenge the Patriots for another shot to appear on NFL’s biggest stage.
Indianapolis is considered a favorite at all of the major bookmakers. Current prices on the Colts’ chances to win the 2009 Super Bowl range from 7/1 at SBG Global and Sportsbook.com, and 15/2 at Bodog.
Oddsmakers have also set the Colts’ over/under total for wins in 2008 at 11, but clearly think Indianapolis will lose more than 11 games considering the under pays out at –160 compared to +130 for the over.
The Colts are one of the largest favorites to win the 2009 Super Bowl, and with good reason. They have one of the best quarterbacks the game has ever seen, a stellar running game with Joseph Addai, and tons of weapons ranging from receivers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne to tight end Dallas Clark. The defense should also be steady again, led by safety Bob Sanders and defensive end Dwight Freeney. Along with the Patriots, Chargers, Steelers and Jaguars, the Colts are clearly the class of the AFC and will no doubt make a legit Super Bowl run again this season.
