College Football Week 8 Picks & Predictions
Week eight of the 2009 College Football Season has plenty of intriguing matchups and our team of writers and handicappers have four free picks to consider.
BYU +2.5 vs. TCU, 7:30PM ET
BYU needs a win Saturday at home against TCU to still contend for the Mountain West Conference title. Since a loss to Florida State, the Cougars have scored at least 35 points in every game. TCU struggled earlier this season at Air Force and lost its last game at BYU. The Horned Frogs have slipped up in the middle of the season each year to keep them from an unbeaten season and BYU is a prime candidate to hand TCU a loss on Saturday.

Ohio State -16.5 vs. Minnesota, Noon ET
After an embarrassing loss to Purdue last week, the Buckeyes will be ready to put a hurting on a lesser Minnesota team on Saturday. This season, Ohio State responded from a loss to USC with a 38-0 win over Toledo. Last season, after the Buckeyes two losses, they bounced back the next week with wins by an average of 26.5 points. Minnesota was dominated by Penn State last week, 20-0, where the Gophers had just under 150 yards of offense. Ohio State should be able to control the Gophers offense and give its offense good field position to cover without much trouble.

Arkansas +6.5 at Mississippi, 12:20PM ET
The Razorbacks have covered in their last three games, including last week at Florida where they lost 23-20. Arkansas has won four of the last five in this series, and Mississippi has only scored a maximum of 23 points in SEC play. With the Razorbacks having one of the top quarterbacks in the country in Ryan Mallett, who should be able to move the ball on the Rebels defense enough to cover.

Tennessee +14 at Alabama, 3:30PM ET
This SEC clash is a battle of two physical defenses. The Volunteers have covered in two of their three conference games, while the Tide have failed to cover twice at home. The key in this game will be Alabama’s offense, which has not had much success. The Volunteers should be able to keep this game low-scoring and if the Tennessee offense can post a few field goals or touchdowns, covering should not be a problem.
