Betting Preview: Chiefs at Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles will try to bounce back from their brutal loss in Week 2 when they host the Kansas City Chiefs at 1:00PM ET on Sunday.
The Eagles were absolutely crushed by the Saints last week, 48-22 as they failed to cover the spread as a 2.5-point home underdog. Without Donovan McNabb (who was nursing a rib injury) in the lineup, Kevin Kolb started and threw for 391 yards and two touchdowns, although he was also intercepted three times. Receiver DeSean Jackson caught four passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
The Chiefs fell to 0-2 on the year after a 13-10 loss to the Raiders at home. Matt Cassel threw for 241 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the loss, as Kansas City failed to cover the spread as a 1.5-point favorite. Larry Johnson added 78 yards on 24 carries.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made the Eagles 9-point favorites over the Chiefs on Sunday. The over/under total for this game has been established at 42.5.
The Eagles will look to rebound from their horrible effort in Week 2 and we happen to think they’ll play with more focus this week, even though McNabb is slated to miss his second straight game.
Outside of the turnovers, Kolb looked good running Philly’s offense and if the Eagles can get Brian Westbrook, LeSean McCoy and the rest of the running game going, then that will open up things in the passing game.
It’s going to take some time for Todd Haley and his coordinators to get things moving in the right direction for the Chiefs. The players are still getting accustomed to the new philosophy and while GM Scott Pioli is the right man for the job, it’s going to take some time.
We like the Eagles to lay a beating on the Chiefs this week and cover the 9-point spread. We also suggest taking the under, as the total has gone under in four of Kansas City’s last five games on the road and we don’t think the Chiefs will reach the end zone too many times against a Philly defense that will be hell bent on making a statement after New Orleans scored 45 points on them last week.
