2009 NFL Preseason Betting Preview: Jets at Giants
The only two teams in the NFL that can both claim to have home field advantage in a game square off tonight in East Rutherford, as the New York Giants host the New York Jets.
The Jets are still looking for their first preseason win of the season after dropping their first two games. Head coach Rex Ryan named rookie Mark Sanchez the starting quarterback and the former USC product should see plenty of action tonight.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made the Jets 3-point underdogs against the Giants on Saturday night. The over/under total for this game has been set at 36.5.
The last time this teams met was in October of 2007, when the Giants beat the Jets 35-24 in a shootout. The Giants also beat the Jets 31-28 in November of 2003.
The trends favor the Jets in this matchup, who are 22-7 against the spread in the last two weeks of preseason games. The Giants are just 9-21 ATS over the last two preseason games.
We recommend bucking the trends in this matchup, however, and go with the Giants –3. Starters usually play into the third quarter of the third preseason game, making this the most predictable week of any during the preseason. The Jets are starting a rookie quarterback, who should succumb to the Giants’ stiff defense, while the G-Men’s running duo of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw should overpower the Jets’ defensive front seven.
