Led be a stingy defense and a power running game, the Jets have gone on the road each of the past two weeks and knocked off division winners in the Bengals and Chargers. In their latest win, New York held the explosive San Diego offense to only 14 points.
The Jets will need a similar defensive effort this Sunday when they take on a Colts team that can also beat teams with their offense. In their win over the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round, quarterback Peyton Manning threw for 246 yards on 30-of-44 passing and two touchdowns. Indy also gave a great defensive effort in the win over Baltimore, while holding the Ravens to just a field goal.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made the Colts 8-point favorites over the Jets for the AFC Championship Game. The over/under total has been set at 40.5 points after both defenses came to play in the divisional round.
The Jets finished the 2009 regular season with a 9-7 record, including a 5-3 away record. They finished 9-7 against the spread during the year, while their over/under record finished at 7-8-1.
The Colts finished the regular season 14-2 and went 10-5-1 against the spread. Their over/under record wrapped up at 9-7.
These two teams met already in Week 16 of the regular season, when the Jets beat the Colts 29-15. Of course, the outcome was dictated by Indianapolis’ head coach Jim Caldwell pulling his starters in the second half to rest them for the playoffs.
