2010 College Football Week 6 Picks & Predictions
By Anthony Rome
Week 6 in college football features plenty of marquee matchups in the top-25 this Saturday. Read on to find out which teams we chose for our top picks and predictions this weekend.
Perhaps the top matchup in college football this week pits SEC rivals Alabama and South Carolina at 3:30PM ET. This will be the third time in as many weeks that the No. 1 Tide will take on a top 25 team (the Gamecocks are currently No. 19).
No. 12 LSU also travels to Gainesville this weekend to take on No. 14 Florida, which lost its first game of the season last week to the previously mentioned Tide. That game is set for 7:30PM ET and will be on ESPN.
Two intra-state rivals will meet this Saturday, as No. 23 Florida State pays a visit to No. 13 Miami, while No. 17 Michigan State takes on equally surprising No. 18 Michigan at 3:30PM ET.
Below are our top 4 picks for Week 6 in college football, although we do make free picks for all the top-25 games every week. To read the full predictions articles for this Saturday’s slate of action, make sure to visit our College Football Articles page.
No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 19 South Carolina, 3:30PM ET CBS
It’s tempting to pick the home team getting points in this game, especially when you consider that Alabama maybe due for a letdown with this of three games against top 25 teams the past three weeks. But the road team is 4-0 against the number in the last four meetings between these two teams and my pick is ‘Bama –7. The Tide nearly lost last week at Arkansas and I believe that was just the wake up call they needed. They won’t take the Gamecocks lightly and expect another big effort out of Mark Ingram, who ripped South Carolina 246 rushing yards last season.

No. 17 Michigan State vs. No. 18 Michigan, 3:30PM ET ABC
The points per game for and against stats above certainly factor into my pick for this game. The over is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams when the games have been played in Michigan, and is 7-3-1 in the last 11 meetings overall. The total has also gone over in four of the Wolverines’ last five games as a favorite and is 4-0 in Michigan State’s last four conference games. Given how poorly Michigan has played defensively this year, the fact that this is Michigan State’s first game on the road and considering how explosive both offense’s can be, the over is the play here.

No. 12 LSU vs. No. 14 Florida, 7:30PM ET ESPN
The Tigers are 0-5 against the spread in their last five meetings with the Gators, but the road team is 7-2 ATS in the last nine overall meetings. Generally, it’s never a good idea to bet against a top 10 team getting points, which is why I’m going to steer clear of making a pick on the side in this game. There seems to be more value with the under, which is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams in Florida and 11-3 in the last 14 meetings overall. It’s also hit in four of the Tigers’ last four games and is 5-1 in the Gators’ last six games when they’re favored. My pick is the under 42 in this contest.

No. 23 Florida State vs. No. 13 Miami, 8:00PM ET ABC
The underdog is 10-1 against the spread in the last 11 meetings between these two teams, which is one of the reasons my pick for tonight will be Florida State. The other is that the road team is 4-0 against the number in the last four meetings, while the Seminoles are a solid 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Hurricanes, on the other hand, are just 1-4 against the number in their last five games following an ATS win and just 1-8 ATS in their last nine games as a home favorite of 3.5-10 points. My pick is Florida State plus the points.
