2010 NFL Wildcard Playoffs Jets vs. Bengals Picks & Predictions

The 2010 NFL Playoffs kick off with a Week 17 rematch when Carson Palmer and the Cincinnati Bengals host Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets at 4:30PM ET.

The Jets beat the Bengals 37-0 as a 10-point favorite in Week 17, as the combined score went over the posted total of 34 points.

Running back Thomas Jones rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns for New York, while Brad Smith chipped in 92 rushing yards and a touchdown on four carries.

For the Bengals, Carson Palmer completed just one pass for zero yards and was also intercepted before being replaced by J.T. O’Sullivan. Larry Johnson rushed for 38 yards on nine carries in the loss.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Bengals 2.5-point favorites over the Jets in Week 17. The over/under total for this game has been set at 34 points.

Our free pick prediction for this game is the Bengals –2.5. A different Cincinnati team will take the field this Saturday than last Sunday night when the Jets crushed the Bengals, 37-0. Cedric Benson will suit up and some of the Bengals’ rested defensive starters will be back in action as well.

Everyone is high on the Jets, and for good reason. They have the No. 1 defense in the league and can run the ball well with Jones and rookie Shonn Green. But the Jets have underachieved for much of the season because of rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, who will be making his first ever playoff start today.

Rookie quarterbacks usually don’t fair well on the road in the playoffs outside of Joe Flacco of the Ravens last season. The Bengals will load the box in effort to stop Jones and will make Sanchez throw to beat them. With the number sitting at 2.5, we love that a field goal covers the spread for the home team.

We also recommend the under. Neither of these teams is going to put the ball in the air much and even if they do, there won’t be many big plays. We expect both teams to come out running the ball earlier and often, so expect plenty of time to come off the clock without much scoring.

Our NFL Wildcard Free Pick for this matchup is: CINCINNATI BENGALS –2.5 and UNDER 34.
