2013 NFL Week 2 Lions vs. Cardinals Picks & Predictions
By Anthony Rome

PHOENIX, AZ (The Spread) – The Lions will look to get to 2-0 on the young season but the Cardinals will attempt to spoil things for Detroit today at 4:05PM ET.

NFL Odds: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Lions are 1-point favorites over the Cardinals while the over/under total is currently sitting at 48.5 points. Detroit won and covered against Minnesota in Week 1 while Arizona lost and covered against St. Louis.

Line Movement: This game opened as a pick'em but the spread jumped to -2 in favor of the Lions before it was bet back down to Detroit -1. As for the total, it opened at 46.5 but has been bet up as high as 48.5 at the majority of online and Vegas sports books.

Public Betting: Of the wagers currently placed on this game, 66% of NFL public bettors currently favor the Lions. This information is subject to change leading up to kickoff, however, so make sure you click on the link provided for the most up-to-date NFL public betting numbers.

NFL Free Pick: Take Arizona. According to latest NFL trends, the Lions are 0-5 against the spread in their last five trips to Arizona, while the home team is a perfect 9-0 against the number in the last nine meetings. The Lions are also 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six September games and 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 road games. As for the Cardinals, they're 5-1 ATS in their last six games in Week 2 and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in September.

Outside of their playoff year in 2011, the Lions have often struggled on the road. In 2009 they were 0-8 away from Ford Field and in 2010 they were 2-6. After an aberration in 2011, they were 2-6 a year ago away from home and now have to travel cross-country to face a much-improved Arizona team that arguably should have beaten St. Louis on the road last week. If Patrick Peterson is indeed up for the challenge defending Calvin Johnson today, then maybe the Cardinals can force a few turnovers from Matthew Stafford and Carson Palmer can attack an undisciplined Detroit defense. Look for the Cardinals to pull off the small upset.
