Week 7 Picks: Ohio State at Purdue Spread Odds, Trends & Injuries
In order for No. 7 Ohio State to contend for a national title this year, its offense needs to catch up with its defense.
The Buckeyes will hope to get its offense rolling on Saturday when they travel to Purdue for a Noon ET kickoff from Ross-Ade Stadium.
Ohio State has scored at least 30 points in all five wins, but the offense has still looked shaky at times, which has Jim Tressel concerned. Terrelle Pryor has thrown for 948 yards and nine touchdowns, but has six interceptions. Brandon Saine has rushed for 349 yards, but is yet to score a touchdown. Pryor has three rushing touchdowns with 333 yards to help aid the ground attack. On defense, the Buckeyes are allowing just 12 points and 271 yards per-game, while forcing 10 interceptions and scoring two defensive touchdowns. The Buckeyes have been favored in all five wins and have covered the spread in five of their six games.
Purdue comes into Saturday’s game with a 1-5 record, but is 3-3 against the spread, with two covers coming at home. Purdue ranks last in the Big Ten in points allowed and rushing yards allowed, as the Boilermakers have given up 1,004 yards on the ground. On offense, Joey Elliott has thrown for 1,575 yards and 12 touchdowns on the year, but also has nine interceptions. Keith Smith has caught 42 passes for 585 yards and four scores to aid Elliott, while Ralph Bolden has rushed for 599 yards and four touchdowns.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made Ohio State 14-point road favorites over Purude on Saturday afternoon. The over/under total for this game has been established at 48.
