Week 7 Picks: Texas vs. Oklahoma Spread Odds, Trends & Injuries

There isn’t a football game with more attention on it Saturday than the Red River Shootout when No. 3 Texas meets No. 20 Oklahoma at Noon ET from The Cotton Bowl.

Bet Texas vs. Oklahoma

Texas seems to have more to lose in Saturday’s game, as the Longhorns are unbeaten while the Sooners already have two losses. Texas has won three of the last four meetings and is rolling coming into Saturday’s matchup. Texas has scored at least 34 points in all five games this season, but covered the spread in just one game this year, in its 64-7 win over UTEP. The Longhorns lead the nation in points per-game at 47.2, thanks to the play of Colt McCoy, who has thrown for 1,410 yards and 10 touchdowns on the year. Jordan Shipley has caught 47 passes for 583 yards and three scores, and is expected to play this week despite suffering an injured sternum last week against Colorado. Defensively, Texas ranks first in the Big XII in fewest yards allowed and the Longhorns have allowed the fewest rushing yards in the nation at 241.
Like Texas, Oklahoma is one of the top rushing defenses in the country, ranking third with 268 yards allowed. The Sooners are 3-2 on the year, with both losses coming without Heisman winner, Sam Bradford, for at least one half of play. Bradford suffered a sprained shoulder in the season opener against BYU, and returned last week in a 33-7 win over Baylor. Bradford threw for 389 yards on 27-of-49 passing with one touchdown in the win. The combo of DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown have rushed for over 700 yards and six touchdowns while receivers Ryan Broyles and Brandon Caleb have combined to catch 44 passes for 686 yards and nine touchdowns. On the year, the Sooners are 2-3 against the spread, with both covers coming in shutout victories.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made Texas 3.5-point favorites over Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. The over/under total for this game has been established at 51.
