The Saskatchewn (8-4) freefall continues, as the Roughriders lost their third in a row straight up, and they have now failed to over in six of their past seven after starting the season 5-0 SU and ATS.
Toronto (8-4) is now 3-0 SU over the past three weeks, with each victory coming away from Rogers Centre. In fact, the Argonauts have rattled off five consecutive road wins, giving them the CFL's best road record at 5-1. The Argos have covered each of the past three games, and the 'over' has also connected in each contest.
Hamilton (5-7) picked up a 28-26 victory over Montreal (4-8), but they failed to cover a 7.5-point spread, their first ATS loss in seven games dating back to July 27.
The BC Lions (8-4) kept the Roughriders reeling with a 24-22 road victory Sunday afternoon. The win helped the Lions improve to 4-1 inside the West Division, and it was just their second straight-up road win in six tries.
Winnipeg (2-10) continues its difficult season, suffered a home-and-home sweep by Edmonton (3-9). The Blue Bombers are now 1-9 SU over the past 10 games, and they have failed to cover in five of the past six.
Edmonton has now collected victories in back-to-back games for the first time this season, and they have covered in five of the past six outings.

CFL Betting Notes - Week 14

The CFL regular season continues to grind on with four non-divisional matchups on this week’s slate. Looking back at the results for Week 13, Edmonton completed a home-and-home sweep over Winnipeg last Friday with a 35-27 victory as a three-point road favorite. This past Saturday’s action kicked things off with Hamilton squeezing by Montreal 28-26 as an eight-point favorite at home. Toronto stayed hot in Saturday’s nightcap with a stunning 33-27 win over Calgary as a 7½-point road underdog.
The final game of the week featured a West Division battle between British Columbia and Saskatchewan with the Lions coming away with a huge 24-22 victory as six-point underdogs on the road.
The following is a brief betting preview for Week 14 in the CFL with the opening pointspread and ‘over/under’ lines provided by 5Dimes.
Friday, Sept. 27
British Columbia Lions vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Point-spread: BC -6
Total: 50½
The Lions’ win over the Roughriders tightened things up in the division title race with both teams now trailing Calgary by just one game at 8-4 straight up. BC is 6-6 against the spread this season with the total staying UNDER in four of its last seven games. Thomas DeMarco completed 18-of-33 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns in place of an injured Travis Lulay in Sunday’s game against Saskatchewan.
The Blue Bombers have sunk to the bottom of the CFL in most major categories including wins and losses with an overall record of 2-10 SU (4-8 ATS). They have also given-up the most points in the CFL (368) while averaging the fewest points per game on offense (20.9).
BC is actually just 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings, but 4-0 SU in the last four including a 27-20 victory at home on Aug. 5 as an 11-point home favorite. The total has stayed UNDER in five of the last six meetings overall.
Saturday, Sept. 21
Calgary Stampeders vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Point-spread: Hamilton -2½
Total: 56½
Calgary still has the best SU record in the CFL at 9-3 and it has covered in seven of its 12 games this season. The total has gone OVER in seven of the 12 games as well. The Stampeders are 4-2 both SU and ATS on the road this year and the total has stayed UNDER in their last three games away from home.
The Tiger-Cats remain in the thick of the East Division title battle at 6-6 both SU and ATS, which puts them two games in back of Toronto and two games ahead of Montreal. The total has gone OVER in five of their last seven games after averaging 31 points a game during that stretch.
The Stampeders drew first blood in this season’s series with a 26-22 victory earlier this month as 5.5-point home favorites. Calgary has now won seven of the last eight meetings SU, but Hamilton is 3-1 ATS in the last four. The total has gone OVER in four of the last six games between the two.
Toronto Argonauts vs. Edmonton Eskimos
Point-spread: PICK
Total: 52
The Argonauts are arguably the hottest team in the CFL right now after back-to-back victories over Saskatchewan and Calgary as underdogs on the road. They are 8-4 SU (7-5 ATS) overall and 5-1 SU and ATS on the road this season. Zack Collaros continues to do an excellent job at quarterback for an injured Ricky Ray with 1,822 passing yards and 12 touchdown throws.
Edmonton fattened its season record at Winnipeg’s expense the past few weeks but it is still just 3-9 SU (6-6 ATS) on the year. The Eskimos are 5-1 ATS in their last six games and the total has gone OVER in seven of their last nine contests.
These two met in late August with Toronto coming away with a tight 36-33 victory as a nine-point favorite at home. It has now won the last two games in this matchup SU after losing the previous five meetings. Edmonton has a 4-1 advantage ATS in the last five games and the total has gone OVER in four of the last six meetings.
Sunday, Sept. 22
Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Montreal Roughriders
Point-spread: Saskatchewan -3
Total: 53½
The Roughriders’ current skid reached three games with this past Sunday’s loss. They are 8-4 SU and 6-6 ATS after failing to cover in six of their last seven games. The total has gone OVER in three of their last five games. Saskatchewan remains the highest scoring team in the CFL with an average of 31.3 points a game.
Montreal has lost its last three games as well to fall to 4-8 SU on the year. It is also 6-6 ATS overall, but just 2-4 ATS at home this season. The Alouettes have actually covered in four of their last six games and the total has gone OVER in three of their last five.
Saskatchewan beat Montreal 24-21 on Aug. 17, but it could not cover as a 12-point favorite at home. The Alouettes had won seven of the previous nine meetings SU and they are 4-1 ATS in the last five including this season’s first game. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the last four meetings.
Week 14 CFL
British Columbia (8-4) @ Winnipeg (2-10) — Lions (-11) held Bombers off 27-20 in Week 6, completing just 13-28 passes but holding Winnipeg to four second half points. BC is off big road win in Regina behind backup QB Demarco; they had lost previous three road games before last week and are 5-3 vs spread as favorites this year, 1-1 on road, with only road wins in six tries 17-3 at Edmonton, 24-22 last week. Hapless Bombers just lost twice to Edmonton; they’re 2-7 vs spread in last nine games, 1-5 as home dogs, losing at home by 5-16-8-19-8 points, with only win an upset of Riders three weeks ago. Lions won last four series games, including Grey Cup win just two years ago—they split last four visits here; 14 of last 17 series games stayed under the total.
Calgary (9-3) @ Hamilton (6-6) — TiCats won five of last seven games after 1-4 start, covering six of the seven but they lost 26-22 (+5.5) at McMahon two weeks ago in game where they outgained Stampeders by 105 yards, were +1 in turnovers, led 15-13 at half, but only scored seven second half points in losing third in row and 7th in last eight tries vs Calgary. Hamilton won its last three home games, scoring 34 ppg; they held off Montreal 28-26 last week despite gaining only 288 yards, its second-lowest total of season. First road game in three weeks for Stamps, who were upset at home by Toronto last week; Calgary won four of its last five games on foreign soil. Five of last seven series games in Hamilton stayed under total. Five of last seven TiCat games went over the total.
Toronto (8-4) @ Edmonton (3-9) — Argos won last three games overall, all on road, scoring 33.3 ppg- seriously, who makes the CFL schedule, and how much Labatt’s do they drink doing it? This is Argos’ 4th road game in a row. Argonauts (-9) outlasted Edmonton 36-33 six weeks ago, in aerial battle where teams combined for 969 passing yards and neither team turned ball over; it was their second straight win over Eskimos for Toronto after five straight losses. Edmonton was 1-9 before sweeping pair from hapless Winnipeg; Eskimos are 5-1 vs spread since their bye, 1-3 as home underdog, losing home games by 21-14-1-3-10 points. Toronto lost four of its last five visits here, with last two losses by total of five points. Eight of last ten Toronto games, seven of last nine Edmonton games went over the total.
Saskatchewan (8-4) @ Montreal (5-7) — Sliding Roughriders lost last three games after 8-1 start, including unthinkable home loss to 2-10 Winnipeg; they led at halftime of all three games, were outscored 52-23 in second halves. Riders (-12) held off Montreal 24-21 at home six weeks ago, recovering four Alouette fumbles while holding Als to 13-28 passing in game Calvillo was injured. Riders lost four of last five visits here, with only win 27-24 (+11.5) vs Trestman-coached Als two years ago. Montreal lost tough 28-26 game to Hamilton last week; they’re 2-4 at home, with only one of the losses by more than eight points. Five of last seven series games stayed under the total, but six of last nine Montreal games and four of six Saskatchewan road games went over.

Blue Bombers at Lions: What Bettors Need to Know

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at BC Lions (+5.5, 50.5)
After letting a 20-point lead slip away at home in their last tilt, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers must be wondering what they need to do to win at their new stadium. The Blue Bombers will get another chance to improve on their dismal 1-5 record at Investors Group Field when they host the BC Lions on Friday. Despite having the league’s worst offense, Winnipeg sits just four points behind the Montreal Alouettes for the final playoff spot with six games remaining - and a win against a tired BC team would go a long way to closing that gap.
The Lions earned a hard-fought 24-22 road victory against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday without starting quarterback Travis Lulay, who will miss at least one more game with a shoulder injury. Backup Thomas DeMarco performed well in his first career start, throwing for 208 yards and two touchdowns and completing two key passes in the final minute to set up the winning field goal. BC also limited Saskatchewan to 39 rushing yards in a defensive performance more typical of its home games - and if the Lions bring the same defensive pressure against Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers might be overmatched.
ABOUT THE LIONS (8-4): DeMarco was benched for part of the second quarter last week and replaced by Buck Pierce - a veteran quarterback recently acquired from Winnipeg. Pierce began his career with the Lions but became the starter for the Blue Bombers in 2010 and could make an appearance on Friday if DeMarco falters. BC’s defense, which has allowed a league-low 88.3 rushing yards per game and just 249.3 passing yards, is tied for the league lead in interceptions with 14. Cornerback Cord Parks has three of those picks in his first CFL season, returning one for a touchdown.
ABOUT THE BLUE BOMBERS (2-10): Quarterback Max Hall will start on Friday after leaving last week’s game late with an undisclosed injury. Hall, who has completed 52-of-81 passes with two touchdowns and five interceptions in his first CFL season, told reporters on Monday that he wanted to return to the game but team doctors kept him out as a precaution. Winnipeg’s defense is tied for the league lead in sacks with 45, but it is also averaging 293.1 passing yards allowed per game - second-worst in the league.

Calgary Stampeders at Hamilton Tiger-Cats (-2, 56.5)
The Calgary Stampeders are still alone atop the West Division despite a hard-fought home loss to the Toronto Argonauts last week. Calgary heads east to try to get back in the win column when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Guelph, Ont., on Saturday. Veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn got the start in place of Bo Levi Mitchell and injured pivot Drew Tate returned to the lineup for his first appearance since Week 2, but has yet to resume throwing in practice, creating a crowded situation under center.
Hamilton escaped Moncton with a nail-biting victory over the Montreal Alouettes to remain in second place in the East Division. Quarterback Henry Burris was held to fewer than 200 passing yards in an uncharacteristically mediocre performance, but Hamilton used a trick play and the strong running of backup quarterback Dan LeFevour to generate offense. The Tiger-Cats return to Guelph's Alumni Stadium, their home away from home, where they are 4-2.
ABOUT THE STAMPEDERS (9-3): Slotback Marquay McDaniel leads the team with 643 receiving yards, taking the place of the injured Nik Lewis as Calgary’s top target. “Especially with Nik going down I figured I was going to see more balls,” McDaniel told the Calgary Herald on Monday. “So I just wanted to make sure I made plays when the opportunity came.” Offensive lineman Spencer Wilson is out with a concussion, meaning J’Michael Deane will likely take his place.
ABOUT THE TIGER-CATS (6-6): Brett Lauther was named special teams player of the week after making 4-of-4 field goal attempts in his CFL debut. Lauther replaced Luca Congi, who was 21-for-29 in field goal attempts - his least efficient season since 2007. Coach Kent Austin was not surprised by Lauther’s debut. "He has a past of making big kicks," Austin said after the game. "That's kind of his M.O." Burris leads the league with 3,765 passing yards - more than he had in his entire final season with Calgary.

Toronto Argonauts at Edmonton Eskimos (Pick, 53)
If results are any indication, the Toronto Argonauts might like to stay on the road forever. The Argonauts will try to win their sixth straight away game when they finish their trip through western Canada with a visit to the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday. Quarterback Zach Collaros is leading the East Division’s best offense while Ricky Ray recovers from injury, throwing for more than 1,800 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for four more.
The Eskimos are hoping home-and-home victories over the lowly Winnipeg Blue Bombers will help turn their season around. Quarterback Mike Reilly reached 3,000 passing yards after throwing for 418 in last week’s come-from-behind road victory and should enjoy a strong outing against a Toronto secondary that allows a league-high 297.7 passing yards per game. However, Edmonton is 1-5 at Commonwealth Stadium - something that will have to improve if the Eskimos hope to catch the Montreal Alouettes for a crossover playoff berth.
ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS (8-4): Collaros and slotback Andre Durie both earned player of the week honours after last week’s 33-27 victory over the Calgary Stampeders. Collaros was 25-for-36 passing for 330 yards and four touchdowns to earn offensive player of the week, while Durie was named top Canadian after catching nine passes for 64 yards and one touchdown. “I think we have learned a little bit about Zach,” Toronto coach Scott Milanovich told Argonauts.ca on Tuesday. “We knew he had the ability to move the pocket and run the football some but I think what we are learning is he is a better pocket passer probably than he is given credit for.”
ABOUT THE ESKIMOS (3-9): Edmonton was finally on the right end of a close game after rallying from a 20-point deficit to defeat Winnipeg 35-27 in overtime, and coach Kavis Reed praised the team’s resiliency. “Exceptionally proud of this football team with the character that they have displayed this year,” Reed said when the team returned to Edmonton. “The guys on the sidelines, there were never any panic or any doubt that we were going to have an opportunity to win that football game.” Reilly is finding targets without slotback Cary Koch, who is on the nine-game injured list.

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Montreal Alouettes (+3.5, 53)
The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes are hurting their respective playoff positions with their three-game losing skids. One of those streaks will come to an end on Sunday when the Roughriders visit Montreal. Saskatchewan defeated the Alouettes 24-21 at home in Week 8, but has played most of its last two games without league-leading running back Kory Sheets (ankle), who assured Roughriders fans that his return will be soon.
Montreal is less fortunate with its injury situation, as running back Brandon Whitaker and quarterback Anthony Calvillo will remain out for the duration of the regular season while backup quarterback Tanner Marsh joins them with a thumb injury. The Alouettes did see linebacker Kyries Hebert return last week against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, but their offense remains inconsistent under the leadership of young pivot Josh Neiswander and backup running back Jerome Messam. Neiswander threw for nearly 300 yards in the loss to Hamilton.
ABOUT THE ROUGHRIDERS (8-4): Quarterback Darian Durant fumbled the ball twice against the BC Lions last week, and those turnovers resulted in a crucial 10 points en route to a 24-22 decision. The fumbles overshadowed a 326-yard, two-touchdown passing performance by Durant, but Saskatchewan was limited to 39 rushing yards without Sheets. Defensive end Ricky Foley and linebacker Craig Butler stepped up in the absence of linebacker Renauld Williams, who led the team in tackles (42) and sacks (seven) before being placed on the nine-game injured list. Foley has six sacks, while Butler has tied Williams with 42 tackles and added three sacks and one interception.
ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (4-8): Linebacker Chip Cox was named defensive player of the week after recording eight tackles, two sacks and one interception against the Tiger-Cats. Cox leads the league with 86 tackles and is the centerpiece of Montreal’s elite linebacker corps. Hebert led the team with seven sacks before he was injured, while linebacker Marc-Olivier Brouillette has five sacks and four fumble recoveries. Quarterback Troy Smith saw his first CFL action last week, scoring a rushing touchdown. The former Heisman Trophy winner will be backup to Neiswander while he learns the Alouettes’ playbook.
