CFL Betting Notes - Week 15

It is getting to be crunch time in the CFL with just five weeks left in the regular season. Last week, Hamilton improved its chances of making it into the playoffs with a 41-28 upset of Montreal on Friday night as a one-point home underdog. The second game on Friday saw Calgary roll over Edmonton 39-15 as a seven-point home favorite.
Turning to last Saturday’s results, Toronto closed the gap with the Alouettes in the East with a 29-10 victory over Winnipeg as a three-point road underdog. In the night cap, Saskatchewan stunned British Columbia 27-21 as a 2½-point underdog at home.
The following is brief preview of Week 15 in the CFL along with the opening point spread and ‘over/under’ lines as provided by 5Dimes.
Friday, Oct.5
Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Edmonton Eskimos PICK Total: 52½
Hamilton heads into this inter-division matchup at 5-8 straight up on the year and 7-6 against the spread. It is 2-1 both SU and ATS in its last three games after losing five in-a-row. The total has gone OVER in four of its last five games. Edmonton has the same exact record as the Tiger-Cats both SU and ATS. It is 3-3 SU at home this season and the total has gone OVER in three of its last five games.
These two met once this season with Hamilton cruising to a 51-8 victory as a three-point favorite at home. The total went OVER the 54 ½-point line. The Eskimos have won six of the last nine meetings SU but are just 4-5 ATS. The total has gone OVER in four of the last six meetings.
Saturday, Oct. 6
Calgary Stampeders vs. British Columbia Lions (-4½) Total: 49½
Calgary’s win last week has it just one game back of the Lions in the West Division at 8-5 SU. It is 7-6 ATS and the total has stayed UNDER in six of its last nine games. BC’s loss in Week 14 was just its second in its last nine games. It is now 9-4 SU overall and 5-8 ATS. The Lions are 5-1 SU at home but just 3-3 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of its last 10 games.
The Stampeders already lost once to the Lions this season in a 34-8 romp as a one-point underdog at home. The total stayed UNDER the 58-point line. BC has actually won five of the last six meetings SU and it is 4-2 ATS. The total has gas gone OVER in four of the last seven games between the two.
Monday, Oct. 8
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Montreal Alouettes OFF Total: OFF
The Blue Bombers are running out of games to try and get into the postseason with an overall record of 3-10 SU (6-7 ATS). They are last in the East and two games out of the sixth and final playoff spot. Montreal’s lead in the East over Toronto is down to just one game. It is 8-5 SU overall and just 6-7 ATS. The Alouettes are 6-1 SU at home this season and 4-3 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games at home.
Montreal has won both meetings this season SU and ATS by a combined 21 points to extend its record against Winnipeg to 7-2 SU and 4-5 ATS in the last nine meetings. The total went OVER in both of this year’s games and in five of the last nine games between these teams.
Bombers QB Buck Pierce (head) is listed as ‘doubtful’ for this contest.
Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Toronto Argonauts OFF Total: OFF
Saskatchewan is back over .500 at 7-6 SU and ATS with four wins in its last five games. It is now just two games back in the West and in excellent position to make the playoffs. The total has stayed UNDER in five if its last seven games.
Toronto is also 7-6 both SU and ATS this season. It is 3-2 SU (2-3 ATS) at home and the total has stayed UNDER in its last two games. Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray remains questionable with a leg injury.
This will be the first meeting this season, but the Roughriders hold a 6-2 SU edge in the last eight games. They are 3-4-1 ATS during this same span of games and the total has stayed UNDER in the last four meetings.

Four teams are set to do battle on a holiday Monday in Canada as clubs in both divisions jockey for position in the standings with only five games remaining on the regular season schedule.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Edmonton Eskimos (0, 53)
Quarterback Henry Burris guided the Tiger-Cats to a 41-28 home win versus division-leading Montreal last week. Burris was named the CFL Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on Tuesday after throwing for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns. Hamilton is 12-4 ATS (against the spread) in its last 16 meetings with Edmonton.
The Eskimos are in a free fall, dropping five straight outings, including a 39-15 decision at Calgary last week. Third-string QB Matt Nichols was forced into action because of injuries to Steven Jyles and Kerry Joseph in the loss. Nichols led the offense to just 242 yards on 66 plays, a unit that has failed to produce more than 18 points in each of its last four contests. Head coach Kavis Reed recently assumed control of the offense and is ready to reinstate Joseph (knee) as Friday's starter, even if he’s not 100 percent healthy.
Calgary Stampeders at B.C. Lions (-4.5, 49)
The fight for first in the West heats up Saturday night at B.C. Place when the Calgary Stampeders visit the B.C. Lions. Calgary trails B.C. by two points for top spot in the division after its convincing win over the Eskimos last week. The victory was the fifth in the last six games for the Stampeders, who are 8-0 ATS in their last eight contests in B.C.
The Lions were held to a single point through the first 30 minutes of last week’s six-point loss at Saskatchewan. But to make matters worse, WRs Geroy Simon (hamstring) and Arland Bruce (concussion) fell to injuries in the defeat and are doubtful versus Calgary. The Lions have only covered once in their last six games overall.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Montreal Alouettes (Odds N/A)
The Blue Bombers dropped a 29-10 decision to the Argonauts last week and lost QB Buck Pierce (concussion) in the process after he took a hit under the chin from Toronto LB Brandon Isaac. Joey Elliott will assume the starting QB role Monday if Pierce isn’t cleared to play. Elliot was picked off three times in relief of Pierce last week, thwarting Winnipeg’s comeback attempt. The Blue Bombers have played under the total in four consecutive games.
Montreal sits alone in first place in the East and enjoys a two-point cushion over the Argonauts with five games to play. The Als fell 41-28 to the Tiger-Cats last Sunday, but have won two straight meetings and seven of the last nine clashes with the Bombers.
Saskatchewan Roughriders at Toronto Argonauts (Odds N/A)
The Roughriders have won back-to-back games thanks to another impressive outing from QB Darian Durant. The signal-caller threw for 371 yards and three touchdowns to help guide the Riders to a thrilling 6-point win over B.C. at Mosaic Stadium last week.
The good news for the Argos at this point in the season is that all but one of their final five games will be played at home. Jarious Jackson is likely to make his second consecutive start at QB for the injured Ricky Ray (knee). Jackson tossed for a modest 155 yards and a score in the club’s win over the lowly Bombers last week. The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings between the clubs and Saskatchewan has failed to cover in its last four road games.
CFL Week 15
Hamilton (6-7) @ Edmonton (5-8) -- TiCats lost six of last eight games, but one of wins was 51-8 (-2.5) home thrashing of Eskimos three weeks ago, but that game was just 16-8 at half. Hamilton lost its last four away games; its only road win this year was 35-34 at Saskatchewan in Week 5. Edmonton was 5-3, but now lost its last five games, with three of five losses by 1 or 2 points- they're 3-3 at home, but lost three in row there, last two by total of three points. 10 of 13 Hamilton games went over the total. Eskimos are 0-5 when they allow more than 20 points.
Calgary (8-5) @ BCLions (9-4) -- Lions went to McMahon and drilled Stampeders 34-8 (+2.5) back in Week 5, outrushing Calgary 161-29 with +2 turnover ratio. BC is 5-1 at home, winning last three home games by 19-33-5 points; they've won seven of last nine games, are 3-3 as home favorites. Stamps are 6-2 since BC loss- they're 3-3 on road, 4-0 vs spread as road underdogs. Calgary is 6-0 when it allows less than 22 points; BC scored 24+ in five of its six home games. Under is 6-3 in last nine Calgary games, 1-3-1 in Lions' last five.
Winnipeg (3-10) @ Montreal (8-5) -- Alouettes already beat woeful Winnipeg twice this season, 41-30 (-6.5) here in Week 2, 36-26 (-1.5) in Manitoba, gaining 500+ TY in both games. Montreal won its last four home games, by an average score of 30-18; they're 4-2 as a home favorite. Bombers lost five of last six games; they're 1-5 as dog on road, losing last two away games by combined score of 96-3. Last four Bomber games stayed under the total. Home favorites are 21-19 vs spread in '12. Alouettes need win to stay on top of Eastern Division.
Saskatchewan (7-6) @ Toronto (7-6) -- Teams haven't met since Week 12 LY, when Saskatchewan beat Argos 30-20, after they lost first meeting 24-18 here. Riders won four of their last five games after a 5-game skid; they've lost four of last five on road, with only win by point at dreadful Winnipeg. Argonauts are home for first time in four weeks; they're 3-2 at home, losing only to Lions/Eskimos- they're 1-2 as home favorites. Seven of last ten Toronto games stayed under the total.
Home (31-21). Favorites (21-31), Over (25-26-1). West 15-9 vs East. Home underdogs are 12-2 in the CFL this season.
